- EMERGENCY WELDING REPAIR // MOBILE RIG WELDING OKLAHOMA
Many clients will call with emergencies but luckily this call was for the following morning. I’m Austin Ross a rig welder and pipeline welder and on this channel I enjoy helping other through my experience and being a part of the welding/pipeline community. I started about early on with my own mobile welding business and pick it back up when I’m home off the pipeline. A welding rig is a welding rig and I might as well be putting my mobile welding rig to work. Today’s project is a farm implement repair. Farm welding is common for me when I’m home in Oklahoma. Farm welding projects and farm welding repair come up with my brother-in-law on their family farm as well as neightbors when have other farm and ranch welding jobs. Welding farm equipment is a fun distraction from the more regular jobs like welding pipe fence. Subscribe and stick around. Make sure to introduce yourself in the comments below!

Hahahaha "it'll hold till it breaks" 👌👌
I tell em "tail light warranty"
Sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Ezekiel Ryder instablaster =)
@Kenneth Vivaan Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Kenneth Vivaan it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
Austin, you need a gofundme to fix your windshield. You're hurting my OCD with that crack brother! :)
Soon there will be a video on welding glass back together.
Just buy him one then
Hearing the idle in the background makes these vlogs so much better. Always keep that Cummins runnin 👌🏻
poor diesels all over the world idle too much and get fouled up with soot because there isn't enough heat to burn it out...a phenomenon called "wet stacking". Diesels need to be working to stay happy and healthy. I agree though, the cummins makes sweet music!
I'm currently training to become a welder and discovered this channel yesterday. The format is great and you have a very likeable personality! I realize that this is a vlog series rather than a tutorial style one, but man I wish you had included some closeups of the finished repair job and maybe some commentary describing what you were doing. :)
You a welder now?
Im not a pipeliner but I do build demolition derby cars. Your tips and tricks apply to damn near anything. Appreciate all you do 💪
First glance. Looks like he was pulling pretty hard, win everything went south
Gonna get a good test "right out of the gate"
Didn’t know that was you, I was behind you yesterday going down memorial you turned left to get on the highway. I remembered the upside down rubber boots haha. Truck looks sick I couldn’t even tell in the videos but in person it looks lifted pretty high . it was around 430pm or so I was in the gray ram
With as much as you point at that "secret box" I wonder how many other people know its originally for 40mm grenades lol
Ahhh good times with the Mark 19
Can’t wait to start pipelining you’re awesome man
Glad to see more vids with actual welding in them.
Love the vids, taking a break from building and welding up a hot trap.
Thanks for sharing with us Austin.👍👍
You are very inspirational. I watch every videos of yours
I like the use of the pallet to keep you off the ground. smart.
Keep on keeping on, Mr. Ross
I've never known a local pipeline welder in ND being union. I'm going back 45 years.
"It'll hold 'till it breaks." haha! Thanks for letting us come along with you. I've never seen a mobile welding truck in action. I do recreational stick on an old buzz box with 6013 3/32, and I do enjoy it.
I can’t say it enough your videos help me out so much your the only person I can actually watch and pay attention to on CZcams!
Anyone else leave other videos when he post lol!!!! This guy seems like the kinda guy you could sit down and have a beer with. Awesome videos keep it up
I used to do a lot of work like this. It was always a fun challenge fixing junk with what you have on the truck.
Strap a load down, "Stay there until it comes off"
i have never seen a pull behind scraper like u fixed thats cool
Always enjoy your work, thanks!
I’m a bldg trades union member up here in Ny... I started running a Rig 3 yrs ago on mainly compressor station work. I was pretty fortunate when the gas work slowed to bounce back to Bldg trades and actually ran my Rig for a contractor I prior ran a Fab shop for ...... being out as long as you have I don’t know how you haven’t looked elsewhere to get back on some pipe work........ hang in there brother !!
I've been doing this kind of work for 20 years. Love it. I do keep a ton of steel in my service truck. I fix gates for a couple dairys.
That didn't look heavy enough. Lol.
😆
some dude just ran up and stole all dem cows
Love the truck set up
I sure like your videos man , it’s hard to tell if you’re a welder because you’re too nice. 😂😂😂😂
I've been welding over 40 yrs and still like your videos.
Hey I enjoy watching all ur videos that you post up you give lots of good tips on different type of welding jobs
Keep up the great work on your vids I've been welding for about a year and a half never touched a welding before and I love it... i usually just do mig mostly but have been getting better and better at it teaching myself witch is better for me i do better with hands on stuff than watching someone else weld..... I've been a mechanic for about 15 years but have since got out of that somewhat and have been enjoying the welding.... just wanted to say I enjoy watching all your videos and maybe one day I could be as good as you haha thanks for showing us what you do around your neck of the woods welding
Great video keep them coming
Any job that takes you away from home and family is hard on marriage. But, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. If it makes good money, and supports your family then that’s what you do.
Was listening to this on my way to work and the bass in the road noise was pretty intense... I was hoping you would show more of the structure during Fab up and explain what you did and why. I grew up working on this sort of stuff and still love doing it.
Love the repair videos
Always enjoy your videos brother
Digging the videos seen my helper watching lol guess he wants my job not mad either. Now that I know I'll show him a few things but he showed me something the other day he learned off your show and boy did it save us some time. Learn something new everyday and when you think you know it all, share ,and you may just learn something. Structual rig welder just trying to make it. Thanks buddy for what you do.
Hey man keep up the good informative content helps alot of ppl out
Thanks for the vid.
noticed you said your in oklahoma. if your ever in need of tires and dont have a good tire man give us a shout we own Iras tire shop in Downtown okc been family owned and operated for 82 years and always happy to have you as a customer. just started watching your youtube then heard you say oklahoma. we put many of tires on a welding rigs and a bunch of my buddies have rigs as well.
I truly injoy how humble you are.
Joe selfridge air force base. Welding department.
we used to make a lot of our own template/pipe wraps from plastic milk jugs. freehand one and grind and make it perfect. then cut a strip from a gallon milk jug wrap it around the pipe and trace the saddle you cut on the plastic with a felt pen and cut it out with scissors. i used to have tons saved up from doing this and that.
Love your channel.
I got me a White box too, ceptin it's green! LOL!
Stay safe brother!!
Pawnee Oklahoma pipeliner checking in
I had a similar project like that years ago. A non farmer was driving the tractor, discing a field. He got too close to some trees and hung the 25’ disc on a tree. Completely ripped the tow bar out and messed up several gang hangars. I went out early one morning when it was extremely foggy. It took me an hour just to find all the pieces from the field! Haha. I finally got all of the pieces collected and spent 2 days welding it all back together. Legend has it that they are still using that disc. Fun stuff.
Had to repair a hydraulic auto hitch on an International tractor that ripped out - cut and made holes in 3/4 plate to sort it, took me a 1&1/2 days... was I pleased when it all cam together and worked as it should :)
Start a mobile welding series
Isn't this the start?
It appears that's in progress now.
He is in a truck. The truck has all of his equipment. He drives that truck to remote jobs.
I had to do that
I’ve rebuilt axles on a scraper like that back in the day
Love the Channel very professional and inspirational Im Over here in California doing plant work trying to get a rig going
GREAT VIDEO Thanks William Orange county, ca.
lovr that thermos, it does the job well, love mine
Those Stanleys are crap. I have 3 large and 4 small. They are always failing. The best i have is 2 used genuine 1970's U.S made stainless "Thermos" ( Thermos was actually English) they are bilt like brick shithouses.
White box foreshadowing was how you say? Chefs kiss*
Good job.
That's cool... that's what I call skill!
been enjoying all the videos, thanks for what you guys do. my nephew is going to welding school this fall. he's in NC
love the videos big dog keep on keepin on
I like the magnetic cutting square.
Buy a set of sure cut templates you can just leave them on and use them as a guide for your torch saves a lot of time
Scraper hitches should be able to swivel, I completely understand if customer said I dont care weld it solid. But they are supposed to be able to swivel independent from the attached tractor or whatever to help in uneven terrain and to keep stress off of the tractor especially when unloading. Tips for saddling between use your jig to mark it out, draw a line at the center of the jig (were it splits apart or at the hinge) cut one side then measure from the bottom of your saddle out and that will give you the correct distance for between the pipes. Line up your length mark at the bottom of your saddle jig then line up your hinge mark and then you know you are straight. Great video as always 👍
That's the first thing I noticed. It looked like a round shaft that broke. The tractor pulled scrapers I ran on the farm all had swivel hitches. I suspect for a reason. If customer wants solid that's what you do. Otherwise I don't know if that repair ended being "the same as" original design.
Scraper hitch has to be able to swivel at least somewhat, I don't know how you could grade without that.
Coffee beans in ner come on! LOL love that!
Austin Ross statistic haha! Love it
Union carpenter here, love your videos, carpenters union has an out of work book we can sign up on at the district council, but we are also allowed to seek our own work, which is the best of both worlds. I personally have never signed the out of work list in 30+ years, always looked and found work on my own, the main reason for that is like you said in another video, I am well diversified, not bragging at all, but I have experience in all areas of union carpenter work. I am also willing to do anything, even bridge work, which I hate.
Hold 'til it breaks is not a worthy response of you4 effort!! Something along 'my work is guaranteed!' Any weld will last til it breaks your weld skill is great be proud to announce it!!!
Hahahaha... yellow cows...love it!
Wish my father was alive to see this guys great videos
👍🏻. I like these videos way better than when you just talk to the camera in the garage.
Yep, none of the welders that I worked as a welders heller, prepper/finisher told me about watching my weld puddle, tie in with welded materials and bead height. I learned that from watching CZcams many years later like 50-60 years later. It has helped the most with the quality of the weld and appearance, you can make a good appearance weld that is not a good weld but it is harder than making a crappy looking weld that you think is a good weld.
I know exactly where u were at I got family that lives right down the road and we used to go fishing down at them bridges all the time when I was a kid
I did a lot of refinery pipe for Brown & Roote. We welded all pipe uphill with 6010 root and low hydrogen fill and cap.
The ripping fence was interesting, could I see more of your hand tools like the ripping fence.
I've seen you at the union these past few days I'll drop by and say hello next time I see you !
Good work bud. I hope to one day have a welder generator and be good enough to do mobile welding on other folks stuff.
Started watching you a few weeks back, love the videos. Keep making them, we love em.
One of my old fitters use to use a gasket to mark out a fish mouth. He’d use it like a wrap around.
I wish I got more jobs onsite to perform with my portable everlast welder.
New subscriber. Farmer in Kansas awesome work.
Thanks for the sub!!
That's true, 798 did that. As long as you are working on a pipeline the DOT can't regulate you in any sized truck.
Something like that is under a bunch of force. And thats a big tractor pulling it LoL no wonder it broke eventually. Nice job 🤘
Not the secret box 🤣😂 austin
Austin would you ever do some live Q&As I would definitely watch
Ever fished that river looks like a good spot for white bass and crappie
Up here in Mass anything over a certain weight or having dual rear wheels needs to be commercially registered. Can be a pain in my opinion but it is what it is.
I like good job sir
Texas and Oklahoma had the best welders was a QC inspector at a nuke plant and those guys could put a pipe root in the first time.
I’m working on an associate’s in welding, and considering what route to take. Liked the advice at the end of the video. Good luck to you brother!
I’ve been looking for ideas for doing pipe fences or different projects I tried to do and this is your channel the most popular one in CZcams n google 2
That coffee made me thirsty and I’m going to bed!. 😆
Local I’m out of in NY..... we can solicit our own work ..... if I’m laid off, I can call around to other contractors and inquire about work or if a buddy is working at a shop I’ll call them too.... we don’t have to wait for our number to come up
I’ve seen an increase in pipeline work firing back up. I hope you get that long over due phone call soon!
My grandpa has the same exact cracks in his truck wind shield
Hey Austin! Could you post a video on what kind of work clothes to get and how to pack for a trip out of town to weld? I just started a new job where I’ll be traveling around to different sites out of the state
Hey man I’m a student at Tulsa welding school here in Oklahoma... also I subbed
Awesome, great video man! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and really enjoyed them! This one was very fun to watch! Nice repair! I love the coffee Bean air freshener, is that original? 😁 be blessed man!!!
The two most common I guess I would say in oilfield tubing you know in the 2 3/8 or 2 7/8 8round thrd upset tubing is j55 or n80 being the heavier wall. Remember “Learn something every day “!
I got coffee beans in there "come on"! 😁
Weldone
"Wasn't a yellow cow, definitely out impliment"😂😂, gave me a good laugh
I’m a fellow 798er and really like your videos maybe we will be on a job together one day
I own a heavy equiptment company dozers excavators all the big stuff for 40 plus years ,, i do a majority of the welding most is heavy from dozer rakes to excavator buckets ,,, all welding repairs are different no one can teach you ,, it's experence an pride is what makes a welder no short cuts,, an hope your eyes hold up to years of welding the eyes go first protect them
Do you have any tips on how to use a wrap around correctly. I understand the most common use but what about all of the other uses? Thanks Austin.
