I feel like they made this product as a first step to dropping the charging port on the iphone. Like they dropped the headphone jack.
This is 100 percent what Apple is doing. It doesnât feel very Apple-like to have a USB C port on the iPhone 13.
Hope Apple doesnât drop it for IPhone 13. We arenât at that stage where portless will work.
Obviously lmao
@@cityplanner3063 yeah we are
I think that would be a mistake on their part to force users to wireless data transfer only. Also would be a major negative hit to wired CarPlay vehicles but maybe theyâd sell an official wireless adapter if they did that. That would be kinda nice.
OK, this started out OK, and then became ridiculous. I use mine at my desk with no issue. The cable could be longer, but it's no issue for me. If any of these weird issues affect you, don't get one - plenty of alternatives, but most of this is nonsense.
I can see both views
I love how the biggest complaint in this video isn't something inherent in the wireless charging or magsafe design just literally Apple being dumb about something that could have very easily at basically no cost been made better (slightly longer or detachable cable)
@Mutombe Apple is too clever for us mere mortals to understand
You can actually push MagSafe to the side to disconnect it. You donât need 2 hands at all.
Actually, you CAN remove the charger by only ONE HAND: just hold it, use your index finger to push it from one side to the other, and once it is no longer in the center, it pops off!!
I just posted a similar comment. This method also saves some wear and tear on the cable for those who have been pulling on the cord to remove it.
And most important for me... Some how I always mess up the charging port on my phones. So with wireless charging that wonât happened.
I came to say the same thing.
Iâve always used one hand to remove it.. I have no idea what he is even talking about.
Yea I use one finger to remove myself. This video is just bullshit Apple hating.
Hereâs one hack: I used 2-sided tape to tape it down on the table or whatever. Bam! donât need two hands anymore.
This is what I'm planning on doing when I get the magsafe charger
Here is another hack: a mobile phone is called like that because you can take it with you , letâs say on vacation ... the charger would be a good idea to have it with you too... but hey, itâs âgluedâ to the table .... too bad
@@tudorstanciu6588 Two sided tape is different than glue duh đ

One major benefit of Magsafe vs wired charger: wired charging plugs can be finicky because they can get clocked with dust and gunk and then you can't charge your phone at all! Better to have at least the ability to charge your phone via Magsafe. Not saying your complaints aren't valid, but I can still see the value of this item.
I never had that problem ever with wired chargers
@@GreatGrandmasterWang I did. I had to wiggle the cord and hold it in a particular position to work. I tried a different Apple cable - same problem. I tried an electronic parts spray cleaner - nope. So, I just bought a MagSafe charger and the problem is solved.
Planning on getting one of these to use as a car charger so that I can keep my aux cord plugged in. Kind of pricey but when you compare it to the price of traditional wireless car chargers that mount to vents or the dash, it evens out. I have had numerous issues with traditional wireless car chargers.
This is exactly why i want it. To charge and still be able to plug and play
why the f are you using aux over Bluetooth?
Went to Ross to look for the cheap counter item products, found a car phone mount. It even chargers your phone and works really well all for 12 bucks. Something cheap and simple would suit you better.

Simple solution: just put double sided tape on it and stick it to your desk. That's what I did. Works great in my home office. I prefer the magsafe charger over other wireless chargers because it's faster and, as you said, the magnets ensure that it's always alligned correctly.
That being said, I agree that it's a bit annoying that it sticks to your phone (if you don't use my solution). If you want a charger to bring around with you and don't mind the cable getting in the way then I would probably just get a regular wired charger..
Grovemade has a cool solution for this as well it has a holder for the charger and stands your phone upright at an angle
what double tape did you use if you don't mind me asking
@@kesiahruiz2894 Personally I used Gorilla tape. It's never going to come up with my phone. Way over kill though

The wireless benefit is setting it down with ease, not picking it up since taking off a wire doesnât require looking for a port or a wire. I donât think thatâs a big that you need two hands to unplug. Instead, itâs a feature because you can use your phone while it charges unlike a regular wireless charger.
Iâm a year late and then few, but I really wanted to say thank you for including captions! A lot of tech reviewers donât include captions, which is so weird and frustrating. I try to add them with my scripted videos and sometimes I pay to have them added on others but I miss some now and then.
One option: embed it in a table. That way, itâll clip on and off your phone fairly easily. Of course, designing a piece of furniture to use a specific puck that might not work with the next gadget Apple decide you need is rather insane.

Honestly the only reason why Iâd invest in MagSafe at this point is for the Belkin charging stand. It would consolidate the two power bricks I plug into my outlet, and make a nice nightstand piece. I probably would seldom use the MagSafe puck on its own. Honestly a 30W brick and a decent Anker cable is the way to go!
Agree with all of that.
Sometimes u have to improvise! Get an extension cord. The charger allows you to orient the cord where you want it. The magnetsâ keep charger attached to phone securely while moving phone. All in all a good setup for hands on during charging.
Fair points, but you can also use an extension cord for your power adapter. Also, if you use a multiport charger that connects to the outlet with a cord, it also solves the problem with having to be really close to an outlet. Good points about having to use both hands to remove itâŚmagsafe seems to be better suited for stationary docks.
That's what I did, I bought a little cable extender and it works well with the charger.
I saw the MagSafe charger as a direct replacement to the lightning cable, *not* wireless charging pads. People haven't ever gone on and on about why lighting cables are too short or require two hands, so I'm confused as to why this accessory is being held to a different standard?
What have you seen people say that was positive about the charger?
Making fun of apple gets views.
If it is a direct replacement for lightning then how can you justify the additional cost?
@@JerrySchulze The same way we justified AirPods from EarPods. Maybe one day Apple says no more lightening port.

Most people donât understand the actual benefit from magsafe charger / battery pack too.
These are meant to protect your battery from getting too hot to the point that it might put your charge on hold in worst case scenarios.
Unlike corded chargers they communicate with your phone and deliver the optimal charge while using it, otherwise in normal conditions they would max out the charging capabilities. Hence protecting your phone from your own usage.

Plus it would really save me more money! So THANK YOU!!! đĽ°
In a world where fast wired charging is reaching 100W or more, wireless charging doesn't even come half as close. Not only does it waste your time, but it also wastes electricity
âIf ur willing to spend $40â... then goes on and recommends u get 30 Watt adapter plus long usb c cord*
The benefit I see is cable orientation for wired charging. I tend to set my phone upright on a table or my chest when I lay down, I canât do that plugged into the lightning port.
Thanks for the video. I was considering trying the magsafe charger but you make some very valid points... enough to keep me from getting one.
They should have made it with a usb c port, so you could change the length of the cord.
Sum valid points ?đ you canât be serious
I am looking at buying this, there seems to be a lot of similar products as well, you have to buy the MagSafe cable separately but it makes it simple to remove.
Also, 3-feet is the standard size for 2-reasons, itâs used for I/O to a computer, thatâs what an iPhone is. 2nd, itâs for performance, longer cables are for things like printers that usually use batch processing.
Also, the new Pro Max provides 28-hours of video playback, so I doubt many will need to game and charge at the same time.
These items listed here are my very sentiments exactly regarding the MagSafe charger --- along with the fact that the charger does not work if you use certain cases on your device. I have the 12 Pro Max, and purchased a protective case with a 'pull-out ring' in the back that allows you to easily hold the phone etc. But my MagSafe does not work while that case is on the phone. Yes, I know there are some cases out there that are MagSafe compatible.
However, in spite of these issues, I think the MagSafe does have potential, since you can use either an extension cord and solve the short-cord issue; and 3rd Party manufacturers may soon release 6-foot and 10-foot cord MagSafe chargers anyway, so I don't see that aspect as being a huge deal since it is easily solvable. Anyway, I'm not a fan of MagSafe for many of the reasons you listed....but I know the potential of the technology since it could also be applied to data transfer as well. I think it's a technology that simply isn't being used to its full potential just as yet. But if the MagSafe was able to work regardless of whatever protective-case is being used on the phone, it would be closer to phenomenal.
I feel like you really reached with a lot of these and didnât give the product a fair evaluation

Yeah, I agree with the fact that it is mostly unnecessary to spend those money for it.
I thought the same thing, if you just could drop the iPhone without the need of separating it from its magnet the it was another thing. But so I donât see any difference.
But Iâm sure they will do it more properly for the future.
Thank you for the heads up! I was going to use it as a mount for my car to charge while I'm driving.
1. Third party longer cables are available at very competitive prices.
2. Itâs not true that third party power bricks only charge at 10W. Ankerâs Nano 20W charging brick actually has a throughput of 16W, which is faster and cheaper than Appleâs own equivalent one. As long as the brick supports Power Delivery 3.0 it will provide power at the advertised speed.
3. No wireless chargers are designed to be hand held, so taking a dig at Apple for that leads me to believe that you created this video with the intention to discredit the product, instead of presenting an accurate and unbiased review.
4. This product claims to wirelessly charge MagSafe compatible iPhones at 15W, and it does what it says on the box.
So I say you should 100% buy it if you need it. Hope you found my honest review useful. Enjoy! đ
Youâre awesome dude
I was thinking the same
The best magsafe review out there.
i agree with him. a wireless charger only make sense if you donât need 2 hands to use it. otherwise itâs just a wire âŚ. cable..
this item is .. a cable nothing else.
the whole purpose of going wireless is ⌠not having a cable to connect to the phone
a magsafe charging dock make much better sense than this cable.
you can still use it with one hand
Hey Jerry thanks for the video, I was looking up stuff about MagSafe charging and was curious if I was missing anything over the lightning to usb C since the case I bought isn't magsafe compatible.
Anyway I picked up an Anker 33w dual port charger from walmart today, the usb c port is 18w and the usb a port is 15w. According to Apple support documentation, i should be good for fast charging. It says 18w and better, and it says third party chargers with usb power delivery, and the usb c port is marked with PD. I just upgraded 2 days ago to an iPhone 12 pro Max from a 7 plus.
The other benefit I've already found with the Anker Charger is, it can also charge my iPad air 2 at the same time as the new phone, and I don't need to use the separate iPad charger now.
So, i actually got more from Anker, than I would have from Apple for about the same price.
That is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
My application is that I want to connect it to a stand and use it for work at my desk. It easier to just pull it than to unplug constantly. My situation is unique though and I think its worth it for people using it at a desk or attached to a charging station where it doesn't require 2 hands to pull apart.
Love the MagSafe. The charging port on my iPhone does not work anymore. Not sure why. Couldnât charge my phone âtil I bought the MagSafe.
I love the MagSafe charger I purchased with my iPhone 12. I especially like not putting wear on the lightning port. When I am streaming music to my audio system from my phone I just leave the phone on the charger. I use the Apple charger. I expect to use this stuff for years so itâs fine on cost. A gamer? Get a USB-C extension cord.
Some other chargers do actually work at full speed, with PD 9V / 2.2A. On Apple's own page they also say it supports 9V / 3A. May require PD 3.0 though - but it's standard, doesn't need Apple's charger, just has to support this charging profile in PD 3.0.
1)Itâs easy to disconnect with 1 hand and definitely easier doing it 1 handed vs the lightning connector.
2) you can also glue it or use 2 sided tape to stick it to a stand for one handed connection and removal.
3) The short cord is not an issue if you use it as solely as an overnight charger by your bedside.
4) lightning connectors burn out if you try to use the phone while charging. I havenât had that issue with wireless charging.
It seems like youâre being a bit over the top with your tear down of the charger. A chair table and plantâŚ.
The magsafe charger also leaves circle burn marks around the magnets or where the apple logo is. It also leaves burn marks on the apple leather case and silicone
No matter what the charger, Iâve always thought the 3â cord length is a lame way to save a few cents. For all the money we spend on smartphones (again, iOS or other) anything under a 10â cord is an insulting slap in the face. I now buy my charging cords from my usual 3rd party but since Apple decided to stop sending the chargers with the device Iâd like the option to have them keep their lame crappy 3â cord as well. Since they seem to think the wall wart is with $40 then give us the option to get just the device and drop $60 off the price. I could then use that money to buy my 10â cord and wall wart while still pocketing the remaining $20. Fair is fair .
indeed ah why did they even bothered to put the short cable in the box.
to be honest i left it there as indeed i use longer cables or wired or magsafe charging stations.
I keep it there in the box as spare.

I'd really like to see a review or your input on the best pad for JUST a phone. I don't have pods/watch. Also, what you think about one for a car. THANKS!!!
I think you kind of missed the point (at least partially). I donât think itâs about it being a wireless charger, more something like a hybrid between the regular cable and a wireless charger, being able to rotate where the cable goes out from but using it as a regular charger, not stopping the charging when you pick it up. I think the main problem is the cord length, since you donât get to change it (ridiculous!). In general, Iâd be thinking of this more like a fancier regular charger, since I think this is what Appleâs trying to replace long-term. Itâs slightly more flexible; you can have the chord go any way you like, charges pretty fast, and it snaps right onto place and you donât have to stab your phone every time you want to charge it. The only problems are the cord length and the price. Donât think that universally outweighs just the element of snappy satisfaction and just the novelty of the concept. For me, it does. Iâm not getting it, but if I did sleep on money, Iâd be totally getting myself one.
Precisely and very helpful for my decisions. Thank you!

Despite being more costly, I actually like using magsafe charger on my iphone. but most of all itâs super clean and fancy on your desk.
your iphone is literally floating in air with this charger and itâs super reachablke.
so nice
Does the magnet only work on iPhones or is it just as strong on other phones?
@@aigoated I believe that the magnets only work on the iPhone 12 and 13 models. You can use the magsafe charger as a wireless charger for other phones that use the Qi wireless standard. Although, I tried it with my iPhone 11 before I got my 13 and it didnât work that well. I hope this helps! :)
@@nicholasrobinson6353 thank you! I also figured out that you can buy a magnetic adhesive that attaches to any phone to make it work. However the only problem is heat if you have a wireless charger that heats up easily.
thanks for the insight!!!
Jerry, you are really good on explaining this!! Thanksđ
You can just tape the mag safe charger to the desk and it will solve your ârequire 2 hands to operateâ problem
"Good when you playing games too, because the cord will not get in your way" so i guess this statement not so true at all am i right?
I guess you could do that. Or maybe super glue.
its a magnet, you can just use your index finger to push it sideways off your phone to disconnect the charger
Iâm getting it to avoid breaking lightning cables from being bent at the connection to the phone
@@max-_-6352 I found myself removing it by the cord. I think others will too and cause the cord to break.
This is one the most comprehensive reviews Iâve seen on the MagSafe charger. I could not agree with you more! Iâve been using my 18w charger from last year, with my 12 pro max, and I could not be happier. Itâs blazing fast! Iâm convinced, that I donât even need the 20w brick, let alone MagSafe. Terrific review!!
Wow! Thanks. It was a little satire and fun to make but I stand by it.
@@JerrySchulze Youâre very welcome. Aside from all the great points, your video was thoroughly enjoyable in its entirety!
Thank You for Saving My Money. Appreciate it. Video helped me a lot
My truck has a 120v outlet just under the display screen. I keep the anker cube and magsafe plugged in all the time. Itâs pretty convenient as well. Connect my phone, lay it on my console while I drive, done. The three foot cord is actually perfect for vehicle applications. The 120v outlet doesnât stay powered up when the truck is off like the regular car charging port does so I donât worry about battery draining issues. When Iâm not using it, I just slide the puck In between the middle console seat to keep it out of the sun. I have one for the house but I rarely use it since the 12 pro max holds a charge for a good while.
Nice! I have been trying to find a way to rig it up in my 2020 Ram. Tried a few things but nothing stable yet.
Man, am impressed how you thought about the whole scenarios. â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Thank you!
Yeah this guy is seriously thick. Itâs funny people like this exist, at least it made me laugh
LMAO, that was the comedy of the video. Like who would take a charger that's clearly meant to stay in one spot and do all this with it...I'm thinking, "Is he making fun of the mentally challenged "????? . I'm not sure if I should make fun of him or give him a medal.
Was literally just about to go buy a MagSafe , this changed my mind real quick
I agree with your points, except one. Iâve never needed 2 hands to remove mine. Magnets have a pretty weak shear strength, so itâs easy to just flick off laterally with the hand you grab the phone with. I agree the cord is just too damn short tho
Yall should check out âcarvedâ wireless chargers. Itâs magsafe and comes with the wall piece lol
It's unfair that your video got 1.2k dislikes so far. Your review was fair. On a side note, Magsafe will be great if you glue it in an office desk. Magnetic wireless charging is an upgrade from the usual "hit or miss" wireless chargers.
IDK. just my thoughts on it but I am not going to glue anything to my furniture. lol
I Velcroâd my MagSafe to my bedside so I can do it with one hand lol and I can also unvelcro it so I can use it while Iâm in bed. Worth it haha đ
lol Velcro for the win!
Using a smartphone whilst it is wirelessly charging. Yeah, if you want to help kill your phone.
Wireless charging is heating your phone enough as it is without you pumping more processor and gpu heat into it đ
@Jessie No. I read reports from engineers and professional (and non professional) testers though đ
@@TheArpage Will also burn in the OLED screen. Quickly.
I did the same
Your pov does make sense. lol I never thought about it haha I always used the wired charging, and never missed the âwirelessâ charger.
I use the offbrand MagSafe and itâs about 3 feet two but what I do is I plug it into extended cord so that way I can move it around and that works really good because I find that the MagSafe works really good if my phone gets wet or somethingbecause the other chargers get wrecked over time if your phones wet and sometimes it can ruin the charger port, which Iâve had that happen on one of my phone so I had to send it in to get a replacement but luckily I had insurance on it
lol I was going to place the order for the MagSafe charger. You just saved me $39. đ
Just ordered it yesterday, now Iâm a little bummed. But then, Iâve never used âwirelessâ (or should I say portless) charging before so itâs just a gimmick I want to try.
Also it opens the door for a variety of stands you can buy for your phone...? Maybe future MagSafe accessories that will come out will also be built around the assumption that you already have a MagSafe charger? Idk
Iâm a little late to this.. but I remove mine with one hand and love that vs lightning and which I need two hands.. with MagSafe I pick it up and push it off with a finger on the back.. Iâve loved the one handedness of it.
Nice video. How long does it take to charge full
Sorry, I donât remember. Usually I charge at night.
The fact that it doesnât get in the way, easily makes it worth it for me (I like to rest my phone on my stomach). Also itâs a lot quicker and easier than plugging in a cable.
I use a power brick so 3 foot length is perfect, and for my nightstand I just got a cable extender so I can lay in bed while using it.
If you want to use it like a normal pad charger just get a couple command strips and stick it to your desk.
I'm sorry that plugging in a cable takes too long for you. I literally have no words on how lazy humans have become that shedding 1 second is world changing. You also do realize that "unplugging" the charger is easier with cable verse a magnet right?
On another note, how is this wireless charging when it is still connected to a wire..
ITS SO HARD TO PLUG IN A CABLE LOL
My a few secondsđ¤Śââď¸
If you have to keep the MagSafe charger in a plug socket, itâs not wireless. My power bank
enables me to leave my home and charge my Phone from
Zero to full multiple times
before the power bank depletes fully. Thatâs practical. MagSafe is a novel gimmick, nothing
more. Iâll pass!
Non tech here. What does a cable extender look like and can I buy one in Best Buy?
Screw in down to the table đ
And why is the lead so short thatâs actually so dumb I need 4m đ
That is pretty useful for drivers you can just get rid of bulky phone holders. Plus the ease of use
What if you stuck Velcro to the back of the charger. Or are the magnets too strong
