    Episode 103
    "Season 4 Kickoff"
    Recorded September 7, 2019
    For release on September 13, 2019
    -------------------------------------------------------------
    It's on. The premiere episode for PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR Season 4, and we begin with a field of nine kids competing in a scratch event. Following a two-game qualifier, the top four kids were guaranteed spots in the stepladder finals, while the 5th spot in the stepladder would go to the player who could survive a Single Ball Eliminator that was contested between players 5 thru 9.
    Also on this week's show, we debut a new feature! Look for it immediately following the winner's interview near the end of the show. (There's also a funny outtake after the first short credits, just before the end credits. So stick around.)

    This is what I like about Annalise. She don't horse play. She's not lollygagging and clowning around. She takes her game seriously and that's how her dad approaches her game. That's what I expect from my son as well. There is a time to play and a time not to, and when you are practicing or competing, even if it is informal like Prodigy, that's not the time to horse play. If you want to be good, you take your game seriously, and you practice like you compete. That's why some kids don't improve as much as they possibly could. They horse play around too much, and then when it's time to compete, it shows in their performance.

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 4 lety

      I agree. One thing that sets Annalise (and most of the elite youth bowlers around the country) apart from some of the really talented bowlers is that they're ALL-BUSINESS on the lanes. Even during league, which a lot of people consider nothing more than a social event. If she's bowling, she's focused. And the minute she takes off her bowling shoes, she turns it off and is a kid again. (A kid with a very level head.) You could not ask for a more delightful young woman than Annalise. And if you've ever met her parents (and I know you have), you know why. Solid family. Good souls, all.

    Randy,
    I love this format (using the "single ball eliminator" to determine the last position in the stepladder). This gets all the participants onto the show. Good show (as they usually are).

      Something similar on the next week's show, currently in post-production. I think you'll like it, too. I'm all for any mechanic that can get all the kids on the show. This sort of gives us a "Wild Card" round where the people just below the top 4 can "playoff" for the one additional spot. I like this idea a lot. Look for it again and again this year.

    @BrownswickBowling What a great start to the Prodigy season!! Annalise is just simply amazing, talented beyond words for her age! I was THRILLED to hear and read about the Make That Spare upcoming episodes. Will you use the same old spares? Bucket 2-4-5-8 Fence 1-2-4-7 Washout 1-2-7-10 Baby Split 4-5 and Equalizer 5-7 (for rightys ofc)? I also have to assume the other house you are going to will be equipped with GSX's or are in the GS family of pinsetters allowing you to setup specific spares yourself? I know in my years for some bowlers if it was a dead day work wise I'd setup spares for them, but a GS ofc would be the easiest way since you can control what pins are setup yourself. Great to see Prodigy back and best of luck with the new season, I will be watching ofc :)

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, my plan for the Make That Spare revival is to do the show just like they did it back in the day, with the same five spares. We'll even do the "Sweepstakes Spare," although there won't be a jackpot associated with it (too bad). Monopoly money, maybe. LOL! One interesting side note on the original Make That Spare. On those rare occasions when a left-hander appeared on the show, they did not reverse the spares for the lefty. The lefty shot the same five spares. So I suspect we'll do it the same way they did.
      Now, we'll be recording all the episodes in one day. And I won't know exactly how many kids we have until we get there. So I may have to modify the format slightly to make sure we get all the kids on the show that show up to bowl. On the original MTS, the winner each week was held over as the "reigning Sparemaker" on the following week's show. But if we have so many kids there to make that impractical, I may do some sort of bracketed competition to winnow the field down to one overall winner. Or we might do three kids on each episode. Or four. As is always the case with PRODIGY, I always have to be prepared to adapt to the circumstances that the field we are presented with requires. Hence, the "impromptu" nature of the formats. This will be no different. But to the extent that I can, I'd like to stay true to the original format of the show while at the same time accommodating the kids who come to be on the show that day.

    • @Rep2369
      @Rep2369 Před 4 lety

      @@ProdigyBowlersTour Very cool :) I like that you're sticking to the original format fully, even with the sweepstakes spare. I dunno if you ever saw the 1988 "revival" (not much of one, it was only one episode lol) but on that one they DID reverse the spares for the lefty on the show. It was PBA guys tho and I don't think you ever tell Earl Anthony "NO I'm not reversing the bucket for you!" lol. It aired right before the 88 PBA national I do remember it vividly, it's probably made it to YT by now but I think I still have it on VHS as well. Looking forward to all you have planned For the upcoming season and especially Make That Spare! :)

      @@dickfilla247 -- Well, all of the Brunswick Zone centers are going away. They're all either changing their names to Bowlero or to AMF or are being sold (which likely would mean they're closing). You see, in 2014, Brunswick Corporation decided they were getting out of the bowling center operation business, and they sold all their Brunswick-branded centers (including all the Brunswick Zone and Brunswick Zone XL centers) to Bowlmor-AMF. (Bowlmor-AMF subsequently became Bowlero Corporation a little over a year ago.) At the time of the sale, Brunswick Corporation licensed the use of their name, Brunswick, to Bowlmor-AMF for a period of FIVE YEARS. The five years is up this month, in September of 2019. By that time, Bowlmor-AMF (Bowlero Corp.) had to have re-branded all the Brunswick-branded bowling centers to something else. Some of them may have become Bowlmor, I'm not sure. Some may have been re-branded as AMF. But most, I believe (and all of them here in the Atlanta metro area) have been re-branded as Bowlero. You won't find any more bowling centers in America branded as Brunswick Zone. That name is now gone.

    Don’t know if anyone’s heard, but I believe The AMF/Brunswick corp is in development on a new pinsetter, the GS-NXT I believe. Search up on CZcams Brunswick GS-NXT, that’s how I found it. It’s pretty interesting!

    • @ProdigyBowlersTour
      @ProdigyBowlersTour  Před 4 lety

      Wrong. There is no "AMF/Brunswick corp." If Brunswick Corporation is developing a new GS-NXT pinsetter (and they may well be doing so, I don't know), they're doing so independent of AMF. You are confusing two different sides of the business -- the side of the business that manufactures and sells bowling center capital equipment (like pinsetters, synthetic lanes, ball returns, scoring systems, etc.) and the bowling CENTER OPERATION business.
      Many years ago AMF sold off its capital equipment manufacturing division to Qubiica, forming the company we now know as Qubica-AMF. That had nothing whatsoever to do with Brunswick. Meanwhile, AMF's bowling center operation business was purchased by Bowlmor, creating the company known as Bowlmor-AMF. A short time later in 2014, Bowlmor-AMF purchased the bowling center operation division of Brunswick Corporation, adding all the Brunswick-branded bowling centers in America to its portfolio of bowling centers. Part of that deal called for Brunswick Corporation licensing the use of its name, Brunswick, in Bowlmor-AMF's operation of the bowling center for a period of five year. Those five years were up in September, 2019, which is why they've all changed their name, most of them to Bowlero. (In the intervening years, Bowlmor-AMF was bought out by an investor who changed the name to Bowlero Corporation.) Meanwhile, Brunswick Corporation, which sold its bowling centers to Bowlmor-AMF, still had the other side of its bowling business -- the side that manufactures and sells bowling center capital equipment (pinsetters, etc.). Brunswick wanted out of the bowling business (they make more money making and selling boats and pool tables), so a couple of years ago, they finally completed the sale of the side of their company that deals in the making of bowling equipment, from pinsetters and ball returns to bowling balls and shoes. Today, Brunswick is completely out of the bowling business. But the side of their company that makes pinsetters, which they sold to an investment firm, has never merged with AMF or any entity related to AMF or Bowlero. You're thinking of the side of the company that operates bowling centers -- a whole different business. There is no such thing as a Brunswick-AMF company.
      If you're going to have a channel about bowling, shouldn't you understand the business just a little so you know what you're talking about?

      @charlies302 Před 4 lety

      @@jspike300 I always brought 4 (two in two small Trax bags). Never took more. I find that it is better to adjust with what you have then to try more bowling balls. It consisted of two reactives, one urethane, and one hard rubber ball that is over 60 years old for spares etc. I had fairly good success in most conditions with just 4.

      If you have 54 balls, I'd say you have an addiction problem and should seek help. ;-)

I’m shocked I don’t see anyone throwing the pink widow, everyone and there mother has it in the house I bowl in lol

    Ended up being a good match between brothers Dylan and Gavin. All Prodigy matches are usually pretty good. Christian is my favorite but he gets lost in those headphones too much to ever get a win on Prodigy. Lose the noise makers Christian. Annalise proves that women can bowl just a good as the men even beat them. Way to go Annalise.

      A few years ago, Storm was selling a DVD on its website by Rhino Page. It talked about the mental game. Specifically, Rhino offered some mental drills you could do that would teach you techniques with which to basically distract yourself from over-thinking about mechanics while bowling. Self-talk drills, really. But the thing that made them so powerful is that they would get your mind off of over-thinking while bowling. Soon after watching the DVD, I bought a pair of Beats Studio Wireless headphones to wear while I was bowling. I found that listening to my tunes while bowling league accomplished the same thing. It kept me from over-thinking about swing mechanics while bowling. Plus, it had the added benefit of shutting out all aural distractions in the bowling center -- like those sudden, unexpected roars from a few pairs away when someone makes a split right in the middle of your downswing, or those drunken idiots who don't seem to realize they're yelling loud enough to be heard in Chattanooga. I found that bowling with headphones on and listening to my music, I bowled a lot better. I could not find a reason why it was a problem. So, as long as it's within the rules (some tournaments don't allow it), I usually bowl with my headphones on. So I can't very well ban it on PRODIGY, as I would be justifiably labeled a hypocrite. I find that different circumstances bowling call for different types and levels of mental engagement. When you're bowling well and it's a relaxed environment (like league), bowling with headphones on is fine. On the other hand, I've been bowling in tournaments where I had to give myself a lot of self-talk -- not so much about swing mechanics, but just to keep myself mentally focused on the task at hand, and to remind myself to stay in the moment and not project forward or dwell on a bad shot. So sometimes I find that headphones (and music) helps me. Other times, not so much.

    They gave $300 to liars. What a way to teach the kids.
