  • Did you know that Lady Jane Grey was only 16 when she became Queen of England? This video is all about the three forgotten Tudor rulers of England between Henry VIII and Elizabeth I: Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey, and Mary I of England.
Edward VI of England reigned as king from 1547 to 1553 CE. Succeeding his father Henry VIII of England (r. 1509-1547 CE), Edward was only nine years old at the time and so the kingdom was ruled by a council of nobles, foremost among whom was Edward's maternal uncle, Edward Seymour (l. c. 1500-1552 CE) until he was replaced by John Dudley, the Earl of Northumberland (l. 1504-1553 CE). During Edward's reign, Protestant religious reforms continued as the Church of England broke further away from the traditions of the established Catholic Church directed by the Pope.
Lady Jane Grey (1537-1554 CE) was briefly declared Queen of England for nine days in July 1553 CE following the death of her cousin Edward VI of England (r. 1547-1553 CE). Then only 16 and never officially crowned, Lady Jane was first an unknowing and then an unwilling pawn in a political coup orchestrated by John Dudley, the Earl of Northumberland (l. 1504-1553 CE) who was, in effect, Edward VI's regent.

What do you think of the reign of Mary I?

Her efforts to restore Catholicism led to the execution of numerous Protestants. Historically, her reign is controversial, with varying perspectives on her intentions and impact on the country.

This is a well-made video with excellent and followable information concerning the short Tudor Dynasty that ended with Mary I. I do not consider Mary I nor her protestant alternatives to be a correct mindset example. However, we are probably concerned with her actions, which I consider to be ruthless and calculating towards her goal. In my opinion, she was motivated to reach a specific goal and led her Catholics to achieve the goal which is an admirable trait but manslaughter for religious practices is a violation of human rights (simply desiring to practice a religion) indicating that they are not correct in their political and religious decisions. If Catholicism allowed for this practice, then clearly Catholicism is clearly incorrect on human demand and self-interests since they force interests or ideologies on persons. No other information is needed regarding Catholicism and its accuracy in worldview. Thank you for supplying the information that CZcams can use regularly. Have a nice day. Hopefully none of what I said here is confusing or offensive to any persons.

I think that, if Edward VIII is acknowledged as a King despite abdicating before even being crowned, Lady Jane Grey should be officially acknowledged as Queen Jane.

We agree, but it will be hard to change that now when she is commonly known throughout history as 'Lady Jane Grey'. Thanks for watching!

Not necessarily forgotten, but definitely not as well known as other Tudors. Thanks for watching!
