Logitech Wireless K400 Plus Review - $20 Keyboard and Integrated Trackpad

  • Buy it on Amazon - lon.tv/ircav (affiliate link) - Logitech has a functional and very inexpensive home theater keyboard and trackpad combo with their Wireless K400 Plus.
    What's great about this device is its compatibility. It works with just about anything with a USB port that supports standard USB keyboards and mice. It worked fine with Macs, Windows PCs, Linux PCs, as well as Android devices. It does not currently work with the AppleTV but does work with Android TV devices.
    It connects via small USB dongle and has about a 30 foot range. It runs on AA batteries that Logitech says are good for about 12-18 months of usage.
    My only gripe is that its settings can only be customized on Windows PCs. Their configuration software only runs on Windows, and the keyboard does not retain any settings changes when it's attached to a non-Windows device.
    It feels a little flimsier than the K830 keyboard we looked at a few weeks ago, but that keyboard also costs 3 or 4 times as much. If you're looking for something cheap and functional this one will certainly foot the bill.

    hey Lon,
    great info as unusual, not sure you mentioned, but both k400 and k400 plus include the "Unifing Bluetooth Dongle" which work on "ANY"
    LOGITECH Bluetooth unit. (so you can use multi mice keyboards, etc at same time). we use 2nd dongle in TV, as well as Nvidia Shield TV in same room or with 35 ft..nice perk, yes? Not to mention the dongle is about $13 purchased separately. So almost like getting keyboard/Mouse for $7. haha..

    I think these things are potentially handy for travel. I got a very thin and light Amazon Basics Bluetooth Keyboard, but unfortunately no trackpad, which is very limiting if used with a Windows tablet (cursor precision with fingertip on a 7" or 8" tablet is pretty miserable).

  • @thelastmike
    @thelastmike Před 8 lety +1

    Works fine on Chrome OS as well. At least the k400 does so I assume this would as well. There's even a Chrome app to change assignments on the logitech unifying dongles.
    I wonder what the difference is between this and the original k400. This appears to be missing a few buttons and thankfully that horrible graphical pattern on the track pad.

    Hey Lon, I don't know about the K400 Plus but on the last gen K400 you could disable the trackpad clicking on the keyboard itself by pressing Function + Left Click. Its the first thing i do every time i turn it on!

  • @fishbonea1-pcrepair864

    The K400+ only hits $20 around xmas season. Need to change or delete the $20 price, can not be found anywhere for that price. I picked mine up for a little under $20 last season.

    I got 2 questions:
    1) Is the touchpad compatible with the special Windows 10 trackpad gestures? Can you show open apps when you swipe up with 3 fingers?
    2) Is it backlit?
    In case its not compatible with Win 10 gestures and not backlit, can you suggest a keyboard that is?

    • @daniellawor8039

  • @jackt6112

    Peculiar Behavior:
    1. The SetPoint software does not recognize this keyboard. It states it requires "Options" software to work. I clicked the link, and it installed it. Now you must go through the SetPoint software, which brings you to the same dialog every time that states there is new software available to download with a link. However, there is no new software to download. The link to "Options" is there, and if you click it, it brings you to the options for the K400 Plus. There is a check box to hide the dialog, but if you were to do that, you would not be able to access "Options" anymore.
    2. When you click the Options link, you can set the behavior of the option keys. However, setting the pointer speed there has no effect. I had to set the speed of my Dell M6600 trackpad to change the pointer speed on the K400 Plus touchpad.

    • @jackt6112
      @jackt6112 Před 8 lety

      +Jack T Other than that, the keyboard works ok. I also connected it to my LG TV that has WebOS 3.1. The keyboard works great for the browsing, but none of the other apps respond to keyboard input from it. You have to use the onscreen keyboard every time. The keyboard also doesn't work on any of the setup screens. I know this is not the fault of the keyboard, but it does indicate that for Home Theater, it is only useful for a HTPC.

      It is for your protection. The dongle is more secure. If you use a blootooth keyboard a hacker in your vicinity could replicate what you are entering in your computer. A dongle makes it much more difficult.

    Again, its incredible what we can buy for $20 US, we get so much of a service 24/7 from these gadgets. However, a fast food meal of $10 (with not even a desert or salad) can get us satisfied for only 2 - 4 hours at best, and we have to spend our hard earned cash on another meal(s) on the same day. And what about those pesky guys offering there lousy landscaping, shoveling snow... taking care of house pets when on vacation for $20 per hour or more. Humans in America have gone down stupid like.
