    Bought this keyboard today to use with my Pi 3+ B. Also plugged it into my laptop running Linux Mint 18.3. It recognized the keyboard immediately. No head-aches with drivers. I don't really like the rattling sound from the keyboard while typing but for the price, I will live with it.

      @@Whigu I'm willing to bet that Microsoft pays Logitech to not put that on there. Of course as we know the reason is Linux is the most used operating system in the world and FOR GOOD REASON!!! Switching to Linux was definitely in my top 5 things I have ever done. I can't tell you how much I have saved not smashing computers out in the driveway. By the way for those who are curious, Linux is FREE and can be customized 100%, not 50% or 80%, 100% Go make yourself a live USB and give it a try.

    Thank you for a nice thorough review of the keyboard.
    This review is streets ahead of others as it was deeply informative of the functionality of the keyboard and software where as some people just unboxed and commented on the keyboard ergonomics alone without addressing the software side of things, comparisons with the previous model and potential uses.
    Thank you for a good review as my Dad is looking for a good HTPC keyboard as he's trying to juggle a mouse and a keyboard, where I told him to get an all-in-one keyboard and that yellow top corner mouse button only seen on the K400 and plus looks like a winning feature to me.

    The original k400/r design was better in my opinion. My biggest gripe with the newer version is the uneven arrow keys. The split up/down arrow completely throws of scrolling for web surfing and word processing. It would possibly have been a keeper had all arrow keys been identical in size similar to the k830. Returned both Black Friday bargain price K400 Plus to amazon and bought two backup k400/r versions from Walmart locally. I consider myself a decently fast typist, and I’ve never used the right shift key.

    • @TechHarvest
      @TechHarvest  Před 4 lety +1

      It all comes down to how you use something I guess. I can see why you would find the split arrow keys as a deal breaker just as I find the small shift key a deal breaker.

    • @strawberryyogurt0
      @strawberryyogurt0 Před 4 lety

      @@TechHarvest ... There was a deal on slickdeals.net, so I bought two. I really wanted to love it seeing as how I loved the original k400/r. After testing out the Plus for an hour web surfing, I kept hitting the wrong key - the right shift. It was kind of maddening. I’m a right shift key virgin; I don’t think I’ve ever use it on purpose or by accident. It would have been a different story had the arrow keys were all the same size like the k830 - too expensive considering the k400/r is roughly $14.99.

      @@TechHarvest Hi! Been playing with it for 2 weeks now. Folks really need to download the "options" to modify some of the features. I turned off the "smooth scrolling" because the feature tended to scroll the text ahead of itself. Changed the "sleep" feature to "OFF" as something kept waking up my computer. Also turned off "zoom" feature as using 2 fingers to scroll sometimes triggered the zoom feature instead. I think it's great that the keyboard software allows for this customization. I would not have known this possible without your review. Love that I can now control my bedroom TV (hooked via HDMI cable to nearby computer) from the comfort of my bed :) Thanks again for your review, you did a thorough job of it!

  • @VIDEOgameDROME
    @VIDEOgameDROME Před 8 lety +1

    I actually just prefer the original K400 as it has larger up&down arrow keys as well as a power-off hotkey (which may work with the Plus if you use the function + sleep command but I won't take the chance). The original K400 allows you to scroll with two fingers as well. There isn't a left-click button on the top left-corner though. I would also say, an improvement that could be made to make it absolutely perfect would be if it were backlit but that would increase the cost and the shift key has been made larger.
    Still, the original Logitech K400 is pretty essential if you like to use want a keyboard with your HTPC/media center. I personally use mine with an Ouya and a Chromebox and it's perfect for me (aside from it not being backlit).

    They clearly messed something up. I bought a K400R back in 2014, and I don't remember having so many issues with it, compared with what I have to deal with this new yellow K400 (the new one with yellow details).
    And it all started with extremely stupid design choices. They got rid of the "shut down", "home", "music" and "lock" shortcut buttons on the left top of the keyboard, and replaced it with a single "right click" yellow button. I have no idea why anyone thought this was a good idea. I do not know what its role is besides sitting there looking stupid, and useless.
    I used to be able to shut down my computer with a single keyboard shortcut click while I was falling asleep, now I have to actually do it. Very stupid.
    Another stupid take from logitech was the new layout of the directional arrow pad. The up/down keys are basically the size of a single left/right key.
    It looks incredibly cheap and cramped, and it should definitely be a dealbreaker for anyone interested in playing videogames.
    I never liked playing with WASD keys, but I had to learn because of this.
    Now, to the hardware itself. The "yellow K400" definitely feels cheaper the original K400R from 2014. I had to send back the first one I received, because the left mouse button came broken. Well, turns out it's still garbage. You actually have to press HARD to trigger the left click. Simply "clicking" on it won't do.
    The result is a noisy mess, even the keys themselves have a very unpleasing feeling.
    I'm not a big fan of highly sensitive "gaming type" keys, but typing on this things turns out to be extremely displeasing and the keys are extremely stiff after 3-6 months.
    Sure, there might be dust or whatever below them, but I never had something like that happen on the old version, which I treated even more poorly.
    But as pointed out, the trackpad is probably the worst part of it all. It is not a joke, this thing triggers itself for no reason at all, often causing embarrassing situations such as ; accidentally sending message, closing tabs, programs, or simply glitching you out of whatever you were doing, because of accidental (left/right) clicks, and buggy finger tracking. Sometimes it just stops tracking and you need to turn it on/off before it glitches you out of that very long CZcams comment you were trying to write about it.
    The trackpad's texture is also trash and a definite downgrade from the earlier version. It doesn't feel like a trackpad but rather cheap plastic with zero grip.
    Another deplorable thing to point out is the firmware itself. That required Logitech driver thing is textbook bloatware designed to drain usage data, while not even letting you customise this thing properly, besides a couple of very rudimentary options.
    For instance, I would like to be able to change the "Scroll" and "Pinch to zoom" behaviour, because right now it is *ABSOLUTELY UNUSABLE* .
    "Scroll" has no effective sensitivity adjustment settings whatsoever, to a point where the slightest scroll will send you down of a 2600 pages pdf.
    "Pinch to zoom" is not actually what it says it is. While using a browser, this will simply change the scale of the page (like a mouse wheel does), instead of zooming on a particular portion of the screen, which is expected behaviour for any recent laptop or any other "finger pinch operated" mobile device.
    Not only that, but the two "functions" are conflicting together in a way that you can't use the "CTRL" touch for a few seconds after having used the "Scroll" function (because the "scrolling act" somehow stays in memory for longer than it needs) otherwise it will simply augment the size of the page to 500% ( or 25%, depending if you were scrolling up or down ).
    This infuriating nonsense will significantly slow down your browsing experience, especially if you're used to keyboard shortcuts, such as CTRL+T to open a new tab, or anything CTRL-related really, you will encounter the +500% accidental zoom.
    Anyone can replicate (one of many occurrences) of the issue by opening Google, scrolling up energetically, waiting 1 second and pressing CTRL.
    Anyway, terrible product, terrible company. It is cheap, but yeah it is not good anymore.

    Thanks for the review. I ordered one already. It was more because it had a touchpad and not a separate mouse and it was the only cordless or one of a few, that had a silicone keyboard cover available from china. I use the keyboard in the dining room as multimedia and it is subjected to food residue at times. However, I would not have called this a multimedia keyboard as it does not have any media controls. Stop, play, pause, forward and backward. I regret the fact that it does not. I hope the touchpad works better than the existing keyboard I am using now, which is a Gearhead. With dirty or greasy fingers its touchpad is horrible and unreliable now. I would not say it is a result of my fingers because I have a thinkpad laptop and the touchpad on that is flawless and accurate with dirty fingers or not. Why can't all other touchpads work as well as on the thinkpad. I have found most other laptops from all brands work poorly compared to the thinkpads. It is really sad. I hope this touchpad works more reliably than the gearhead and more like the thinkpad.

    I just bought the minix z64 windows. Will it work on a windows machine? I like the fact that you can hook up several devices to the kb. This means you dont have to waste an extra usb port on for example a mouse. Does the predecessor has that feature also?
    Do the batteries last? Minix own remote has problems with that.

      @tees8634 Před 8 lety

      Yes it will work on a windows machine. Batteries last upto 18 months. I have owned this keyboard for around 12 months now, its great tbh!

    How does it compare to the original K400? I like that the original K400 has Windows XP support. Unfortunately neither of them seem to support Linux.

    • @thetechconspiracy2
      @thetechconspiracy2 Před 7 lety

      Trusteft The K400 has a slightly different layout, with the Shift key to the right of the arrow keys. The K400 seems to support Linux just fine, although the customization software is not supported, and some function keys may not work properly.

      sebastyjon360 lol... wifi keyboard??? It may use a 2.54 ghz signal, but that's not wifi. :P
      Look... the video clearly said wireless. Does it matter if it's 2.54ghz wireless or bluetooth? Is that going to be the difference between a sale or not?? It's wireless.. you don't need to be physically connected to the pc... that's all that's important. It's not like you need to buy a new piece of equipment to get it to work.. the dongle comes with it. Good grief.
      And if you really wanted to know what it used... google is your friend. Try BestBuy.

    • @greenbag7787
      @greenbag7787 Před 8 lety +2

      FruitCakeNinja btw... sorry, I should have just said earlier... it comes with a 2.4 ghz "unified" receiver. I have one, as well as a logitech mouse with another receiver, and they only work for the units they came with.. I can't pair them on one dongle. As for the keyboard itself.. I find the mouse pad a little irritating.. it's too sensitive, and I wind up opening things I don't want to open. I'm sure there's a way of turning off the 'tap to click' function on the pad itself in Windows, but I use it with a Raspberry Pi running Kodi.
      Also.. just for future reference.. if it says wireless, it means 2.4 ghz or whatever frequency they're using. It'll say bluetooth if it's a bluetooth device. Wireless keyboard, bluetooth keyboard, etc.
      cheers.

    I don't see myself ever using a wireless keyboard with my computer unless that is all that becomes available. I have a laptop with a track pad etc. and I can't stand using it. :p I also don't see myself using Windows 8 or higher. Even if they are giving it away. :P Loved seeing the kitty walking through. ;)

      +BlackCat2 For my non laptop computers, all I have is wireless keyboards :D Windows 10 is pretty good if you like Windows 7, but really at this point there's no real reason to upgrade if you don't want to. The kitties always like to barge into my reviews :D

    • @BlackCat_2
      @BlackCat_2 Před 8 lety

      TechHarvest Yeah I don't want Windows 10. They have annoyed me anyway but putting that crap on my laptop with the automatic updates pestering me and my son to install Windows 10. I told my son he will not install it. :P If he does he won't use it anymore. lol.
      I have manual updates on my desktop so they will not get me with that. :P Even if they did I would just get another hard drive and install my good copy of Windows on it. About time I added a new hard drive anyway. ;) I don't think 3 would be too many. :D
      I love it when the kitties get in the way. :) I am down to 8 now so my cat food bill is lighter. I still miss them all though and there were a few I wished would live forever but nothing ever does... well except spiders and roaches. *grin*

      +BlackCat2 Yeah that reminder to update to Windows 10 can get annoying. It pops up on my Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines. I still have 2 cats and it takes all of my willpower to not make that 3 or 4. :D
