The RDR2 encounter that gave me the most chills has to be the hillbillies that show up at your campfire if you set up camp in the northeast. There's a moment in Bioshock that I'll never forget. You walk into this relatively unassuming room with a desk in the corner that has a teddy bear to collect. You had to get right up on the desk to collect it and when I turned around there was a splicer staring me directly in the face. First moment in a video game where I nearly dropped my controller.

    • @Jolis_Parsec

Did this happen in one of the dentistry offices? If so, I’m sure that’s programmed to happen when you first enter the room and interact with the container on the opposite end of the room unless the trigger for that event somehow manages to break (i.e. The splicer in question doesn’t stand there creepily waiting for you to turn around and spot him and instead attacks you the moment he spawns into the map).

I think one of the more unsettling things in Skyrim is when you're playing it in VR, and you're wandering around at night, and you see the Vigilants of Stendarr standing around. They're good guys so you just kinda walk up to them, only to see that their eyes are glowing orange, before they start attacking you because they're vampires in disguise. The reason it is creepy in VR is because you're standing face to face with them at the moment you realize they're vampires.

Finding Pleasance for the first time was unsettling. I camped out to see if anything changed at night. Nothing changed, but the music, the dark and the atmosphere really creeped me out. Murfees are kind of creepy too, but I just think some thing like "really?!" whenever I encounter them,, because I warned them multiple times with my calling card (burning their bodies in a campfire) but they keep coming.

the game Genshin Impact has quite a number of creepy places. There is this abandoned house somewhere at the mountain where the atmosphere changed immediately the moment you reached the place, turning dark even if you entered that place at night. There, there is a girl you can get a side quest from, asking you to find a book. So you have to climb up to get the book and when you tried to return the book, she just gone. The extra creepy is that if you meet a different NPC, a man, you'll learn that this man, when he was a kid, gave the book to her and later she fell into a river, drowned while not letting the book go.
And then there are quests where you meet literal ghosts, and playable characters that work in funeral parlor, with one of them use a ghost to smack the enemies around...

When you get back to the shack where the woman lives , there's no one there and a little while after that you've met someone that tells you the story of the crashed down plane that hit a house, where the owner of the house is the woman you've met before. Also from Breath of the Wild, is Hino. Hino seems like a pretty normal character at first. He is involved in researching the Blood Moon phenomenon. However, something really creepy that occurs with him when a Blood Moon is coming, he will go bonkers, shouting “MY BLOOD IS BOILING!” or “IT’S SO RED, SO GLORIOUSLY RED!” This is very creepy, and there are no other NPCs in the game to react so over the top and freakish than Hino. When the Blood Moon goes away, Hino will be disappointed, saying he has to wait for the next one. In Tears of the Kingdom, he returns, often found captured in a monster fortress. When you free him, he’ll explain that he was studying the monsters to find out more about the blood moon. But you have to wonder why the monsters didn’t just knock him out and celebrate in front of his unconscious body like most monsters? What made him worth taking to their layer and capturing them instead of just knocking him out? Furthermore, Hino can actually tell you IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY if a Blood Moon is going to occur later, something which cannot be predicted by the player or other NPCs. I’ve also been playing recently, and I noticed that when you free him, you can’t find him anywhere until he is captured again. You simply cannot find him anywhere else.
