- Interplanetary war has come to mankind, and the battle is about to start.
Aired 17th October 1956, on X Minus One - SF radio series broadcast from 1955 to 1958 on NBC Radio
This one is clearly about Doom Guy
I recognize the voice of James Gregory who played Frank Luger on Barney Miller, a very distinctive voice.
Thanks for posting this vintage gem. Love the background music, it really portrays the 1950's scifi era of movies.
I love that you enjoy scifi radio dramas (as I do) but I must ask, I must. Why would you include '666' in your screen name?
This tale is pretty close to the state of the Federation in the first couple seasons of Star Trek The Next Generation, prior to the Borg showing up and kicking them in the pants hard enough to get them off their collective butts.
Awesome stuff.
Even in space, they drink and smoke like everyone in the 50s, and the space some of ships look like Studebakers. Love it! Wait!!! Elon Musks rockets look like 1950s space ships!
Even their haircuts are 50ish
It's an accurate re-creation of the drinking world of the mid- 20th Century. These guys remind me so much of my "functional" alcoholic Dad and his war buddies. Drinking has been such a huge part of Euro-American culture for so long. Records of alcohol production to population show the vast quantum of alcohol imbibed by our forebears. Much more per capita than we drink today. I think most of the history of the Western world has been made by drunks, or, guys who'd rather be drunk while they did what they did.
There are aliens in the woods...
That’s how
Does anyone know if this is the same Michael Shaara who wrote The Killer Angels?
Sounds like the view of the army people have nowadays.
Was I weak ?
It doesn't make sense that the alien needed to be so near the human colony in order to attack with remotely controlled robots. Also, the humans would be easy to see using the bat-like robots equipped with infrared sensors.
Is it rowbutt, or robot?
Neither, it's rowbit.

The second Martian revolt in '23, eh?
