    Synopsis
Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) walked the mile with a variety of cons. He had never encountered someone like John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a massive black man convicted of brutally killing a pair of young sisters. Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but not the demeanor. Beyond his simple, naive nature and a deathly fear of the dark, Coffey seemed to possess a prodigious, supernatural gift. Paul began to question whether Coffey was truly guilty of murdering the two girls.

    1. It wasn't sadists from the public who witnessed the executions. It was mainly journalists, victims' families and I'd assume certain government officials as well. There was no video evidence or anything after all, so they were there to ensure and be witnesses, that the execution had in fact taken place and the criminal wasn't secretly still out there.
    2. When Hal is telling Paul about Melinda swearing, it's not him being some unempathetic prude, clutching his pearls cause a dainty woman with cancer dared to express discomfort/pain. It's him telling Paul about the effect the tumor is already having on her brain. Impeding normal brain functions. Depending on where a tumor is, it can cause people to have entire shifts in personality and behaviour. It's not like the rest of us swearing because we hit our toe against a table leg or are giving birth or whatever else. It's not "ow, I'm hurting"-swearing.

The death penalty is more expensive to taxpayers than life in prison because of all the mandatory appeals and lawyer fees and the time of appellate justices with staff re-hearing the case. A case of capital punishment often goes to the State's Supreme Court. Additionally, lots of folks are later found to have been wrongly convicted. You can let a man out of prison for being wrongly convicted. You can't resurrect a wrongly convicted person who has been executed.

I have to say something when you got upset with all the people watching. They are not there for enjoyment, they are there as witnesses that the sentence was carried out, ordered by the court. Yes, some of them are there as family of the victim(s) but the others as witnesses. It still happens in some States in the USA where there is still a death penalty, except that today, it's by injection. Still there are people there as witnesses (and family(ies)) too, to ensure that the sentence was carried out.
As for Percy, yes, we all hate him (which shows what a great actor he is) and of course Billy as well.
If you look at two things 1) John Coffey's initials are JC. Think about it. 2) When Melinda sees John's scars and asks him where he got them and John replies, don't rightly know, leads one to believe that he existed during slavery times. Also, when Gary Sinise (the attorney) mentions that there were no signs of John Coffey and it's as if he fell from the sky ... kinda make you think that he's more than a healer, no?

I've never tried oil paint, but I always wanted to. I love the final look, plus it seems like fun. I just never had the money to sink into the supplies, nor a room that was big enough or ventilated enough to use paint thinner and such. I was primarily a colored pencil and oil pastel artist, though I dabbled in watercolor and other mediums. Suggestion:
Tom Hanks, in a recent interview, mentioned that his most under-rated film is "Cloud Atlas".
He also seemed quite bummed out that not many people have seen it.
"Cloud Atlas" is an interesting film. It's played by an ensemble who, as the film goes on, are shown in different time periods wrapped around a subtle central theme. The theme underlies the action and events in each time period. The ensemble cast appear in each time period interacting as very different people. I believe this is one of (if not the only) film role where one of Hanks's characters is a villain, and in "Cloud Atlas" two of his incarnations are terrible people.
    Highly recommend "Cloud Atlas".

I'm not surprised that's a film he likes. I found it to be almost a nod to the secret societies that have controlled much of the power in Hollywood (and some other industries). They seem to have an agenda that transcends the generations.

As a police officer i. R. (Germany) you need good people skills to do the job well and come home healthy. My knowledge of human nature would have quickly set off all my alarms when it came to Mr. John Coffey.
    There's something very wrong here.
Most criminals who wear a mask to appear different than they really are reveal their true colors quite quickly.
Nothing changes here, he is and remains a pleasant, likeable and empathetic person from the start who absolutely gives the impression that he couldn't harm a fly.
What he “does” in the course of the film reinforces and strengthens this impression.
The type of person you sit on the porch with, drink Coke and play cards. As I said, something is not quite right here.
I would make a small change. Mr. Percy goes into the cell for him,
I don't have any positive perceptions of him, but I have a lot of negative ones.
I myself am against the death penalty and am absolutely happy that it has been abolished in Germany. A democratic constitutional state cannot morally afford even one wrong judgment.
