- The Green Mile, a fantasy drama directed by Frank Darabont based on a Stephen King novel, is a heart wrenching film about a death row inmate with supernatural abilities and his impact on the guards and prisoners around him. In this video I watch The Green Mile for the first time and give my reactions and... emotional opinions of it!

Michael Clarke Duncan was ROBBED of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Michael Caine was good in Cider House Rules, but Michael Clarke Duncan SHATTERED hearts and souls with his performance.
I agree
Awards are so tough!!!
It's probably because the movie itself is so manipulative and because the magical negro trope is such tricky territory.
This one should have won, but it was up against The Sixth Sense, which won that year. I think the Sixth Sense made a bigger impact because of word of mouthy. I never heard of Green Mile until I rented it in the early 2000s.
Rest in Peace Michael Clarke Duncan. You will be missed
R.I.P. Michael Clarke Duncan Fitting that Tom Hanks spoke at his service IRL
That’s so beautiful!
@@LiteWeightReacting Indeed and quite entertaining!
John Coffey’s lament. “I’m tired of people being ugly to each other”. Me too, John.
Sorry I have to say it! Coffey like the drink but not spelled the same. You spelled it right.
Me too.
The most heart wrenching part of this film to me, is when Boss talks to John Coffey about “On my day of Judgement…” and Coffey says “I’m tired boss… I’m tired of people being ugly to each other.” That entire dialogue was heartbreaking and both actors crushed it.
"I'm sorry for what I am".
I saw an interview with the director and he said Tom Hanks was giving an Oscar-worthy performance off-camera to support Michael Clarke Duncan - and MCD was superior in the moment.
I saw it in the cinema and that scene just knocked me sideways.
The actors absolutely took it to another level. A phenomenal scene.
As soon as she loved the mouse I said "oh noo"
"I used to have pet mice" WELP, good luck
Hook, line, and sinker! Just like the rest of us who are fans of this film.
🤣 I was in trouble right from the beginning! No chance haha
for me it was the moment I saw her tearing up right at the beginning. "Already? Oh Lord, this won't end well for her." And then "I use to have pet mice".🤐
Yep I started crying right along too… I’ve seen hundreds of reactions to this movie…. But it’s extra special when the reactor is a sensitive soul ♥️
When he said, "Don't put me in the dark." it broke my heart. I watched this in school and even boys were crying. I had to walk outside and cried like a baby.
My theory is that he was afraid of the dark because that’s where he goes in his mind when he’s feeling other people’s pain or healing them. The clue is that when he heals Miranda, she says that she dreamt they were both wandering in the dark, and found each other.
by far, the best reaction to this movie I have ever seen. Not only were you honest with your emotions, but you got many of the connections that many miss. Great job.
Thank you Dave! Glad you enjoyed 😊
Exactly. You caught on quickly to the small details. Many people miss the instances where John feels an evil presence as Wild Bill arrives on the Mile, and also when John is watching the movie as the projector light surrounds John like a halo. Mister Jingles is over 60 years old by the end of the film.
I’ve probably seen about 20 “reaction videos” to this movie. This reaction is BY FAR the best! If this move doesn’t break you emotionally, I can’t even relate to you. Lol. Thanks for sharing all the messy emotions.💚
Wow! Thank you! That’s a huge compliment!
Totally agree. I like emotional reactors bc I'm emotional too when watching this sad stuff, and Teegan fits that perfectly, could've been me when I watched this for the first time(and still can't watch it without crying).
Yeah, I'd have to agree about it being the best reaction to this movie. I've seen a few where the reactor(s) don't even shed a tear. I can kind of understand, to a point. I have had issues showing any kind of emotion when it comes to death due to watching my grandfather pass away in front of me when I was 11. That direct emotion is severed for me. However, watching others cry makes me reconnect that emotion. My wife asked me why I watch sad videos. It's hard for her to understand.
@@LiteWeightReacting More reactions! More more more! Thank you for putting your giant heart on display, so those of us who've been tired of the world being ugly, can see and remember what it felt like before our hearts grew calloused.
I like how, unlike most reactions, she made the JC connection, and pretty quick
R.I.P Michael Clarke Duncan. You´re an angel.
RIP!
Stephen King discovered pretty early in his writing career, that the most scary things he might bring to paper, are not the monsters, he can come up with - but just ordinary humans.
And the things they do to each other.
They don't call him "The King of Horror" for nothing.
The King of Horror is more fitting himself in real life.
That's why the mist is so hard to watch...
That last line:
"....sometimes the Green Mile seems so long."
Ugh....it hits hard.....
It's at that moment that you realise this was his horror story all along.
If his life scales as Mr Jingles has he will live centuries at minimum, if not millennia.
@@mnomadvfx I don't think so. Mr. Jingles, John brought back to life, Paul he just shared a vision with. Paul had obviously aged considerably, just not nearly as much as his true age would suggest. I'd peg Paul lasting decades more, but not centuries.
We all knew you would fall apart. That's because we knew what a big beautiful heart you have.
Don't worry, even us growed up men still cry every time we watch these reactions with you. 😢 You caught on way quicker than I did to what was going on. Thank you for sharing with us.
Right words. She is a beautiful soul, just like John Coffey was.
Within a 5 year span, Tom Hanks was on a blockbuster run. He was the Man.
Yes...the Jimmy Stewart of the 1990s.
Yeah he really did crush!!
Facts
I'd say from the start of the 90's he was on a pretty amazing run, I can't think of an actor that has had a better decade run of movies really, from Philadelphia right through to Castaway. You could even extend it a year or two to include great movies like The Burbs, Road To Perdition and Catch Me If You Can.
@@carlesmacuaid
Awww, I like to start with Big.
People wonder why Stephen King is so beloved as a writer. This is why. He writes about human experiences and uses the supernatural to accentuate the stories. I’m glad she caught the the JC nod and everything else. This has been one of the better reactions to this movie.
I watched The Mist once and the ending really got to me.
She even got the halo behind John's head!
Stephen King definitely gives plenty of nods to God in his stories.
The book was easy to adapt to a screenplay; it's almost word-for-word the same as the book.
Nowadays, only the worst kinds of murder are eligible for the death penalty, but in the 1920/30s when this movie took place, lots of lesser crimes were, including even car theft and burglary in some states. By setting it then, Stephen King brilliantly made it easier to sympathize with the inmates, because you really don't know what their crimes were.
Never be ashamed to show your feelings.
This reaction was one of the most honest I have seen in a long time.
This has to be absolutely the best advertisement for that waterproof eye make-up you have on.
You know that the actor is doing an amazing job when they actually make you hate them. Also, a lady who likes little cuddly mice? Schweet. But she looks married given the ring. haha For anyone wondering, at 31:47 he is saying to the mouse, "Goodbye, my friend. I love you, my little one."
And what a talent in Mr. Duncan. It was buetifull how he made this giant imposing mountain of a man so wonderfully innocent and endearing. This role deserved every award out there. Really miss this great talented man.
5:16 In the book, John Coffey was 6'8". Michael Clarke Duncan was a little shorter at 6'4", so they gave him platform shoes for the role.
Funny thing is the actor who played the warden is taller than him (6’7)
@@Yessirski91 Yeah, James Cromwell. He was towering over Tom Hanks (and he’s no small fry himself!)
@@tomaskennedyTom Hanks is actually 5'8". There's a lot of big-time actors that are filmed well above their height, giving them styles of shooting that make them seem taller than they are, for example Tom Cruise. You'd think he's 6', but he's like 5'7".
There are times in life when annoying sniffling is right and proper. The Green Mile is several of those times.
I raised a son by myself, always felt I had to be strong and not cry in front of him. Childhood issues, but every few years I would watch this movie to get it out. It was bottled up inside for so long. This movie was the only thing that would allow me to get rid of all the unshed tears. One of Stephen Kings biggest fan. I've read all his books. This is one of my favorites. Your reaction had me crying right along with you. Not ashamed of crying anymore, gets all the toxicity out. Feels cleansing now, instead of weak. Thanks for your reaction, new sub❤
A mouse's lifespan is approx. 2 years, so 32 lifespans for him and he is still going. Paul is just 108, so he has a long ways to go since the average lifespan for a human is 65 or so. 2080 (65 x 32 lifespans) years at least left + more. It's terrifying and a really heartbreaking ending.
Modern day Methuselah (who lived for centuries in the Bible).
You are such a sweet, empathic person. And watching you react to all these amazing movies is a joy.
Thank you!!
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was around 11 maybe 12 years old at the time, sat down and watched this movie for the first time back in 2007, parents asleep upstairs around 10pm.
Im not the type to cry even as a child, when i sat and watched this alone, it changed me inside, i cried harder then i had in years and to this day, its still the hardest hitting movie ive ever watched all these years later.
You're reaction mirrored mine in many ways, you'll remember this movie for years even decades to come, its just that much of a classic.
Michael Jeter was fantastic in this movie. You felt his despair and anguish. When he yells "no" it cuts right through to your soul. And Doug Huchison really did an unbelievable job at making you hate him. Top to bottom, this cast was fantastic.
czcams.com/video/CfnyEP63vQg/video.htmlsi=P-V5p0z0T6qgqhKG I share this because this is what Michael Jeter did a month after this film came out.
Id say that Percy is one of the top 10 movie Villains in cenematic history. He ranks right up there with Darth Vader.
@@codyschiemann4732he's up there with joffrey, we all hate Percy and his short man complex
He did a fantastic job in the western open range with Kevin Costner if you ever get a chance to watch it
I think he did better than John's character
Snotty nose, eyes streaming, finding it hard to work out what you've just seen, yep you've just experienced The Green Mile.
46:46 John is about to die and he's comforting his friends. I'd argue that his superpower isn't healing. Its empathy.
And possibly both ☺️🤗
It's definitely empathy the way he describes how he can feel everyone's feelings is definitely meant to be a play on empathy
Michael Duncan had one of the strongest performances that I've seen in any movie with The Green Mile. RIP... He was taken away far too early.
You know it's gonna be good when she's crying at the introduction 🤣
23:10 Honestly, your early realization there kinda broke me... 😅🤭
Broke my heart! 😭💔🤝
But in a good way, no worries! 🫶
I knew she’d pick up on it right away. Watched her gaming videos for a few years now and she’s always right on top of everything.
@@igloo2158 Yeah, its very refreshing to watch someone that has brains and perception. If she decides to upload more frequently on the reaction channel it will be a good day !
@@igloo2158 Yeah, and the J.C. metaphore? Like, I was very impressed. It took me a few views (and the help of my brother 😅🤭) to figure that stuff out...
I appreciate all the kind words on this comment thread everyone 😊
This is one of the best movies of all time. I've seen it so much, scores of times including "reactions" like this. I'm always mildly surprised that so many watching it, even for the first time, do not make the connection of Stephen King's book from which this came. King's works always have a element of fantasy-horror. Carrie. Salem's Lot. The Stand. It. Your reaction was spot on.
This movie is one that you may never watch again…but likely you’ll never forget. Beautiful start to finish, and should have given Michael C Duncan an Oscar
Frank Darabont is absolutely a legend!
He's also the direct Shawshank Redemption & pilot of The Walking Dead.
@joshuacampbell7493 I'm aware chief
Literally discovering all of his work in 2024 has been such a treat!
He gonna Direct two or three eps of final season of strangers thing
This movie kills me every time. One scene that I’ve grown to appreciate more every time I watch it is right before Del’s execution. You can tell he’s fully rehabilitated, but people weren’t given those sort of chances back then. “I sure wish I coulda met you guys some place else” absolutely destroys me
You have no idea how he would behave in society. The very least he should never walk the streets again.
The public has the right to be protected from dangerous individuals
@@innercircle341 "You have no idea how he would behave in society" Neither do you.
Strange that you make such a statement after just watching an execution of a innocent man.
iHe raped and murdered a young girl before starting a fire, which caused the deaths of six more people (including two children), good thing you don't work for a parole board
I have seen many, MANY reactions for this film, from other reactions. But there were VERY FEW that knew that Coffy was innocent from the early part of THIS FILM. This makes YOU a BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING. Yes, this world is, CURRENTLY, an ugly place (at the moment), but I'm SO PROUD to see that there are STILL people, LIKE YOU, are still here NOW. THIS GIVES ME A SENSE OF HOPE FOR THIS WORLD 🌎. Great reaction!❤😢😊
@@Stone_Horse From the book.....Eduard Delacroix was a death-row inmate incarcerated at Cold Mountain Penitentiary for raping and killing a young girl, then trying to cover up his crime by burning her body. The fire was near an apartment building that caught on fire and killed six more people, including two children. After a lengthy trial, he was sentenced to death by electric chair.
Around 6 minutes into the video, at the very beginning of the film when you cried a bit, I was thinking: Damn girl, you're going to cry, A LOT! 😉 Beautiful movie, I saw it a couple of times, so I was prepared, but your emotional reaction made me tear up too 😅😂
Your reaction is the most emotional reaction ever, I cried again every time you cried. I felt your pain. Great reaction video
you calling Mr. Jingles “Cheese-It” is probably my favorite part of this reaction ❤️
Hahaha glad you enjoyed that!
Well done for actually getting through one of the most incredible tear jerking stories ever put to film.
Have no regrets. Any movie that can be so moving that it makes you touch on feelings you'd rather not feel is a good thing. We all need to experience such strong emotions and feelings. Whether we know it or not, we're much better off in the long run. Empathy and compassion are in such short supply these days, we need to find a way to find it, no matter the source.
I may have watched maybe 30 reactions to this movie and yours is one of the best.
Great reaction my friend, you did well. Don't be fearful to feel.
Couldn't have written it any better. And crying is not a sign of weakness, but it shows your empathy and compassion which is indeed becoming more and more rare in the world nowadays.
Another great film from Frank Darabont is called The Mist (2006)
Also Stephen King novella, keep tissues handy
Bless your heart young lady, this has got to be the best reaction that I have seen to this all time great movie classic. Thank you.
Hell of a movie it had me in tears the first time i watched the green mile 😢🍿🔥
I was dead 💀
No need to apologize. You're showing you have a good heart, and that is a beautiful thing.
I always felt sad for Paul because he had to watch everyone he’d known and love die, even Elaine for that matter. I wouldn’t want that kind of torment my own self and for no one else either. Great reaction as always!
Probably the most genuine, heartfelt and insightful reaction to this movie I’ve ever seen. 👍🏻 Please kindly consider reacting to “The Last Samurai” (2003) starring Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe.
Hey girl, sending you a hug all the way from germany. You've chosen one hell of a movie. One of my favorites. Still, the one favorite I rarely watch. Because this is some heavy. heavy stuff. And it hits close to home considering the fact that I work in a prison fortress here in germany. We have no death penalty, for that I'm grateful but as a warden, who is working with so many different inmates for almost 8 years now, you are also getting in touch with all their stories, their lives, regrets, hopes and dreams. It's not for everyone to work in a place like this but I'm happy. For I'm convinced that what I do here every day has some meaning and purpose.
Your empathy inspires me. We need so many more people like you in this world.
The ending "if mr jiggles lives until how I long will I have left" meant that the mouse probably lived about 20x longer as he should. So if you multiply a humans lifespan like that it is gonna be way longer. Also beautiful reaction. Havent seen that film in a long time and cried for pretty much an hour straight. : (
Another thing to add to the JC notes is that Tom's character Paul is name of the man telling the story.
Bravo LiteWeight!!! I've literally watched dozens of Green Mile reactions and you're the only person to call John Coffey-Jesus Christ (thought more people would mention the JC connection!) Felt your emotions throughout the reaction, thank you ✌🏻❤️
I’ve watched a lot of people react to this movie and you’re definitely the fastest to cry lol as soon as you started I knew this was gonna be extra rough on you
I respond more readily to soundtrack and the dialog. When Coffey said he was tired of being alone, without a buddy to tell him where they'd be going and being "as lonely as a Sparrow in the rain", my heart sank inside me for John. Stephan King is amazing.
I think this is the BEST reaction to this movie! Subscribing. Thank you.
How can anyone NOT subscribe after seeing this reaction! The moment it dawned on you that John was actually trying to heal the girls, that moment just clutched at my heartstings. The only thing I love more than your reaction to this movie is the movie itself. Will be a forever fan! Keep up the outstanding work, and thank you for sharing your heart with us!
My dad read the books many years before the movie was made. My dad doesn't really cry, but I saw him coming out of my parents bed room really ugly crying blowing his nose and telling me and mom, This book is so sad, and we where like, why are you reading it then? "- it is so good" was his simple reply as he went back, this repeated itselfs a few times that day.
at the end of 2022 I started talking about this movie, and he told me. No, lets not, it is still to soon for me.
As others have stated, if you don't feel like an emotional wreck from this movie I am not sure you are a person at all!
Ty for letting us all experience this movie like it was for the first time again and cry along with you.
Holy shit, this comment section is wild, sis. Every time I watch this movie, I swear it's the last time, but I always come back. I laugh, weep, get really pissed off, and find myself amazed at the cruelty humans can inflict, the acts that we can forgive, and the grace and respect we can show even those who have been deemed unsalvageable. Amazing movie, message for everyone. I am wrecked for a week every time after watching and I love it. Really enjoyable reaction, subscribed 👍
I've watched many reactions to this film and everybody turns into an emotional mess. I tear up every time.

Stephen King is such a good story writer! People label him as a horror writer, but he has done so much more like this one, Shawshank, 11/22/63 and fantasy books like The Dark Tower franchise!
This movie is phenomenal, on many levels. It evokes such raw emotions from the people who watch it and connect with it. You're right, there are many quotable, memorable lines. I never tire of seeing it, and seeing others react to it for the first time. Great reaction video.
Thank you!!! I agree with everything you said! Idk if I can watch it again though
@LiteWeightReacting you'll find yourself wanting to watch it again, it might just be a little while. I think that the movie makes a good test for finding out what kind of person someone is. If someone can watch it and not become engrossed, and very moved emotionally, it speaks volumes about that person's ability to be empathetic, in my opinion.
Great reaction like always, love this movie. The late Michael Clark Duncan said this was the hardest role he had to prepare for. For emotional scenes, Michael Clarke Duncan would recall his father leaving him as a child. There are some fun-facts about it. Fifteen mice were used in the movie. Each spent months being trained to do different tricks.
Coffey's bed was built shorter in order to make Michael Clarke Duncan look like a giant He also stated that he was genuinely scared when he had that shotgun pointed at him. I missed reading the books when they first came out and kinda wish I would have read them before watching the movie.
And congrats not many people realize at firsts that John Coffey is a Christ figure. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He had foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus. (Recall the scene where John is watching his first-ever flicker show, and the light from the movie projector is illuminating his head from behind, just like a halo: The Christian symbolism is unmistakable) Keep up the good work.
And btw you should react to Schindler's List it will break your soul and its another you must watch movie.
Lots of awesome things you mentioned! Appreciate you sharing! 😊

Frank Darabont, man!
I am SO disappointed that this guy isn't directing movies anymore.
I mean, his first 2 flicks are undebateable all-time classics, and then he made another great film in my opinion with The Mist, and The Majestic is oretty good too. WHY walk away after that streak?
One of the purest and best reactions ive seen for this movie. It is impossible to not cry watching this movie, but when you already cried in the beginning when he mentioned that he dont likes the dark, i knew you gonna be devistated at the end when he mention it again. That was really clever of them, cuz in the beginning it is even funny a little bit that such a big guy is afraid of the dark and at the end you gonna cry your eyes out for that.
I watched a couple of reaction of this girl, like "the shawshank redemption" and this one. She seems so sweet and empathic, God bless her soul. I hope she get the best in this life, she lives 120 years, and then she get the best on the afterlife too. She's so precious.
The actor at the beginning that was first to be executed was also the actor that played RAINS FALLS in RDR2

This is a movie I got to see young on a movie channel on cable and it changed how I thought about movies and I watched it over and over again. An all time favourite.
The entire point of a whole lot of King's horror is that a literal HORROR MONSTER ITSELF is no more evil than anything humanity has to offer, and in some cases even LESS so.
This movie kills me every time I watch it. No use trying not to cry. “Piss on me?” Probably my favorite line/part. As heartbreaking as this movie is, they did sprinkle in the comedy perfectly and I think Stephen King knew people needed that break in this story. Out of the reactors who have watched this movie, I probably experienced ALL the emotions I normally would watching this movie by just watching you. I cried when I watched you realize he didn’t do what he was accused of. It was just very genuine. While I understand you not wanting to watch this again, I will say I think after some time you might change your mind. This is such a great movie and I shared the same opinion when I saw it as a child. However, after some time I would think about a funny part or something that made me laugh and I would have to watch the movie again. Amazing reaction though, thank you for sharing.
You can tell a lot about a person from watching a movie with them. You're f***ing amazing!
An average mouse lives up to 2 years, and Mr.Jiggles has survived over 5 decades that was the reference Paul meant a mouse exceeding over 25 times it's expected lifespan when you convert that theory to say 60 years average for a man, then Paul could possibly live up to 1,500 years before he nears his own for longing Greenmile.

- "dead man walking" is a real thing tho not common in death houses anymore. It was yelled out when a prisoner was moved out of their cell or to their cell. It was a call out the guards would do to let the staff know where the prisoner was at all times.
- the botched execution scene (Dell) was based on a real event a very long time ago.@LiteWeight Reacting@LiteWeight Reacting
Oh no....saw the title and knew this poor young lady was going to be crushed, She was despondent over Brooks in Shawshank...she's going to be a mess after this.
Shawshank is the far superior film, but Green Mile is *FAR* sadder and more cynical. Shawshank lifts you up, Green Mile crushes you.
You nailed it! I was CRUSHED!
Oh no.... You didn't do this to yourself, did you?.... 😔🙈
Let me give you a hug! 🤗🫶
I did! It was worth it!
Obviously viewers like to see honest heartfelt emotions being set loose, which you did in spades, but you were also quick to pick your way through the plot lines and although you say you couldn't be very insightful at the end you were more insightful than most. Liked your intelligent commentary, informative observations, and did I mention those deep, heartfelt emotions. This reaction was up there with the best I've seen.
Gotta say, seeing your genuine reactions is great. I love that you're getting to experience this masterpiece of a film 😊
In the book, Del knew a girl that had spurned his romantic advances so he tried to scare her by setting fire to her apartment house. 13 people died in the blaze. He was guilty of doing something stupid rather than evil. He was an OK guy for the most part. Wet sponge or no, this is not a humane way to execute a person by any stretch of the imagination. Del did not deserve that.
Not quite right. He raped and killed a young girl then to cover it up he tried to burn the body which caught an apartment building on fire killing 6 others including 2 children.
Bitterbuck killed a man in a bar fight over a pair of boots
I remember it differently....Didn't he rape and murder a young girl before starting a fire, (to cover up the crime) which accidentally caused the deaths of six more people (including 2 kids).
I read it 25+ years ago, so I may be wrong....
@@USCFlashI thought I posted that last night myself but the comment seems to have disappeared. You are correct and I just reread it last year.
And for completeness Bitterbuck killed a man in a bar fight over a pair of boots
Thanks for adding the book knowledge!

Yes that is what i recalled too.
This movie is one
of my top ten. Sam Rockwell, who played the real killer of the girls is an excellent actor. This is one of his earliest roles. He won an oscar for a great performance in a movie called Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri. Another great film with an excellent cast that is also heart wrenching.
Rest In Paradise Michael Clarke Duncan ❣️
That movie gets you right in the heart watching it for the 1st time right?! And if you dont cry watching this movie you have no soul ! great reaction
I, too, am an emotional and empathetic person. I tend to cry most when other people are crying; sympathetic cryer. There are a lot of movies out there that make me cry. Don't shy away because crying is cathartic. Crying because of a movie can reset emotions and stabilize your moods. It is actually a gift. There are several movies that cause such a visceral reaction, and the most powerful I know is "Beaches" with Bette Midler. Watch with caution, it is a very beautiful story that will break your heart.
2 films i wil never - as a 48 y o man from england - deny crying to. this, and the bridge to terabithia. beautiful films, that offer hope and despair, but leave you with the memory of beautiful storytelling.
Definitely the best reaction I've seen yet. You picked up on things no one else did. Thank you darlin
