    Im a palangi, I stayed there for 6 months in the same complex.. Maui and Chris who took care of the land would have to be the most generous, most down to earth, honest and reliable people I ever met in Tonga. I never had anything stolen, or felt like people were using me and all the neighbours were cool. They didnt have much but they had OFA (love) and always looked out for me, shared everything they had and put me up on game and let me know if I was doing things wrong.

    I would chose that complex over dateline or any other nice house in Tonga any day cos it felt like a home, a community, a family. I think every Tongan should be proud of the kind people of Pahu who took these backpackers in. I knw Maui would never turn down any person who needed somewhere to stay and he always had room at the Inn, even if he had to sweep out the storage shed now and then haha. A great hardworking man and a true asset to the Kingdom of Tonga May God bless you Maui. OFA ATU TOKO

    Adam be grateful for all life's experiences. I think it looks like a simple life. I am thinking of moving there for a good. I am so sick of all the superficial BS here is California. Yes I grew up here in South Orange County but never been happy with all the unhappy fake ,plastic people that I see everyday.they have money and items and still they are miserable.As long as the people were nice and caring that is all that really matters...did they look happy for the most part?

    from what I hear the people are unusual in that they still are friendly, very family oriented, with a sense of pride in their traditions, are not lost in mass mindcontrol consumerism, and not born to expect govt handouts and spoonfed like so many western countries. The U.S. is losing its middle class, individiual freedoms and being taxed to poverty by the shadow government of the central bank oligarchy - watch Alex Jones for more on U.S. situation which you won't find in corporate media.

    @navutokaboy Thanks mate, I only stayed in that place for about 6 weeks, we got a bit better place after, but it was about the experience, like you said, I did get to see lot's of other places, islands, did some diving in Vava'u and the sea caves which was incredible, been everywhere on Tongatapu, went to Pangaimotu, and all kinds of other stuff, was a good experience for the most part!

    The dog is so cute ! And btw yes the house was not perfect but these people are lucky to have a house with an indoor bathroom or or a house at all, directed to some of those that commented. Yea they could have had a better place to stay in but no they probably chose not to and see how Tongans live life. We don't know their reason but I'm happy someone actually showed us the part of Tongan life where it's not perfect in our eyes.

    @aligerous Cheers mate. I was living in NZ, and had a mate that moved over there, so though I'd go check it out and stay for a while, see what it was like, was there for almost 4 months, but haven't been there in about 6 months, I live in Europe now.

  • @adamkenny1984
    @adamkenny1984  Před 12 lety

    @kaimabu Cheers mate, wasn't the hook up, just stayed there to start, wanted to live hard, did move into a better place after a few weeks, I was def joking about the 5* accomm. I did go to Vava'u, did some sea cave diving which was great and is much prettier than Tongatapu for sure!I didn't get to Eau but did make it to Pangaimotu as well. Also rode the Tongan ferry (yep, the red one) and stopped in Haapi, been round the main island to every spot, blow holes, Anahulu caves, all beaches, bars,etc

    I did go to Vava'u, went cave diving and stayed in Neiafu, it was lovely and the diving was fantastic! I also took the long ferry ride from Nuku, which was def an experience!

    at least they don't need to worry about were to live or paying the mortgage. that is not how we all tongan live every house are diffident like every person are diffident. i agree with kaimabu you had a bad hook-ups & they are not struggling for food if they want food they will go and grow food or fish, the majority of tongan are farmers and fisherman.

    I think people there are content, it's difficult to say tho, some are very happy, some not so much, it's a difficult way of life there, they live with very little and most struggle for food and money so happiness is hard to achieve in that sense, but they certainly don't have the superficial problems you mentioned that we have experienced in our lives, it's a simpler,slower way of life, and was a great experience, I wouldn't want to settle there permanently tho.........

    I don't find anything wrong with the video. Some people are more worried about the image of Tonga rather than just letting people show their real life experiences of Tonga. Lack of fully functional plumbing is nothing new in some places so why feel offended by this video? I hope this guy got to know Tonga for it's people though and the more important parts to Tongan life and culture....thanks for the video mate.

    @adamkenny1984 i agree with others who hav commented but you had bad hook-ups if you say that was your 5star hotel joking rite? next time if there is a next time to tonga go to VAVA'U or EUA they will definitely show you 5star hotel and hospitality!! yes some people may live like how you showed but i guess that's how it is since it's still a monarchy country, it is not yet run by goverment "democracy?" as you say however if you do i can surely hook you up with connection malo.

    things have come along way! but this is by far the worst turn out! there are some parts that are nice and more nicer where you stayed. it all depends ho w clean people are. so with this they just dont know how to keep things clean. this must have been a bad part of Nukualofa. Cause the last time i was there in 97 it looked way better then that.. but its always a great experience. hope you liked it!
