- Hani Rice Terraces are some of the most spectacular landscapes in southern China!
For generations, Hani people have been farming the mountains, creating splendid terrace-cascades down the mountains.
I already stayed there for a month during my PhD project, and I was quite excited to go back there a couple of years later!
I also met some old friends in a beautiful Hani village, and accidentally joined a banquet in the village...
Join me on the adventure through the pristine Hani Rice Terraces!

Without a doubt..this is the BEST China content on youtube.
100% agree
Yan your videos have an immense impact to western people who are open minded and look to China - something which is new for us. You show us that China is beautiful and rich of culture which is mostly older than the whole western world. The rural life in this video touches me so much that I often cry. It reminds how life was hundreds of years before in my country. We are social beings and we can't live happily all alone. Now I love China so much!!!
We must be aware that the US spreads a lot of bad news over China in order to prepare the world to accept their military actions. We are under constant influence of US propaganda.
Thank you so much sir that you like our culture
Welcome to China❤
It's really a huge lost for human that Westerners destroyed local civilizations of Africa/America/Australia.
Diversity is an important source power of development and creativity.
@@tigerwild1164what the hell you're talking about? The countries you mentioned are very diversed countries l. Do you know how many nationalities are there in the U.S.? Also, do you know how many Chinese living abroad? Why don't they stay in China? Their country is big enough to have all of them home but yet they are all over the world? Do you know why?
Wow! The American media has lied to the people here once again. How beautiful your country is. Thank you for showing us how wonderful it is. ❤
Usually journalists who publish deceptive news have never been to China, if they had they would know how stupid they are, and the fact that more stupid people believe their lies is laughable. I've been to more than 30 countries and still find China the friendliest, safest and most comfortable country to live in!
When you watch any of ‘Little Chinese Anywhere’ episodes you can safely hit the 👍 right away. All the videos in the series are full of genuine stories and intimate encounters with locals. Thank you Yan for letting us accompany you in your travels through rural China. I think I speak for everyone of your viewers that we are tired of all the other glossy videos that focus on the rat race life style. You show us the China that was thought to be long gone👍👍😄
Absolutely!
yes the Western propaganda of China is never really accurate. If you look at a country without all you preexisting biases, you realise that the people there are just like people anywhere else
Can not disagree with you, so i will thump up your comment
I could not agree with you more 👍
I completely agree with you, I can't wait to be able to return to the amazing and beautiful Chinese countryside. The people are so very warm and welcoming to me as a lao wai.😁😁
I was born in china and now live in America. These videos really bring out my love for the Chinese people and the people specifically
Do you love yourself as a Chinese person? Amidst the anti-Chinese propaganda spewing from the mouths of politicians an MSM.
I've seen the same comment before.
people are very friendly unlike the western media only portrays Chinese are greedy, loud, rude etc. also, if you listen to what the villagers said, their lives have improved significantly because of the government’s poverty alleviation program.
@@spider6660 Truth bears repeating. Unlike the lies of western MSM.

These closely knitted societies can survive thousands of years because they are united and selfless. The whole village celebrate and mourn together. Each has clear responsiblity in these banquets. Hope when they move to cities they can keep to these traditions. Life is tough but everyone is happy. Thanks for bringing us such a wonderful story.
Good to see that the government is helping to renovate and improve the villages so that the young people have more work opportunities and will be more inclined to stay and help maintain the traditional life-style.
@@Zerpentsa6598 脱贫?poverty eradication projects ?. Life of chinese has generally improved. May be Tourism will provide more opportunities for young as suggested
In fact, the Chinese go to the city, the relationship between neighbors become strange. But I agree with you that the tourism industry will make young people stay and remind people in the city of the old days.
In fact, most rural areas in China are like this. We are located in rural areas in the south. It's also a similar custom. But our living conditions are better.
can't do, when you're in the city, it's all about competition and wealth hoarding.
I am from Yunnan, have left for over 20 years ..... thank you for bringing me back to my dream land.
Same for me, really miss Yunnan
Don't come back !!!
I’m Russian, I would love to move in your amazing country, but I know that I will not be able to learn Mandarin….it’s the only problem for me. ❤
@@ssrae-2229 why are you so mean?!
@@n.v.z.1950 People there are very friendly, they don't care about where are you from. If you are kind and nice also to the others, you will be welcome to join the community for sure. And don't worry about language, they don't speak mandarin there either 😆
It's really a privilege to witness the real Chinese culture in your company. If it weren't for you we and the world would never dive so profoundly in this unseen China. Thank you very much.❤
DONT FALL FOR CCP PROPAGANDA
Much thanks for this very very interesting video - I have sent it to friend in Russia - England and Jamaica - In Jamaica are many Chinese people old - before i was born - I am 82+ - and new ones over the past 10/15 years - I went to school in Jamaica with Chinese people and in 2015 Imet again the Chinese lady that I bought sweet from when I was 6 years old - she lives in my village in Jamaica and she did not forget who I was - it was great - she could remember what I used t be - always wanting to buy more sweets but not having enough money - she died in 2016 - aged 96 years old - a truly wonderful woman
A few years ago a group of us from Singapore and Malaysia travelled to Yunnan to photograph the rice terraces of Yuanyang. This place is a favourite with photographers from all over China. I remembered getting up early in the morning, at 4.30am to reach the rice terraces so that we can be in the front to set up our tripods and cameras. By 6.00am there were already large groups of photographers behnd us. As the sun rose above the horizon, the whole landscape has an almost a surreal look to it. If you like landscape photography, this is a must place to visit.
I’ve lived in China but have only visited the main tourist attractions, unfortunately. China is so vast it’s almost impossible to see all of its charm. What you’re showing us really is the mostly unseen China that most of us don’t have the chance to explore. I enjoy watching to your interactions with the local people - something that foreign CZcamsrs aren’t able to do to your extent.
I hope you don’t mind me pointing this out - the expression is always “give me a thumbs up” - always plural, even though we’re only asking for the one ;)
Awesome video, Yan. As a Canadian born Chinese, I am so tempted to explore this region when I move to China permanently next year. 🙏
Am so excited for you!
欢迎回家😀
You lucky dog don't make me jealous. 😊 Wish you have a great time in China it is really a paradise everywhere you go there. Wish I can also move in like you permanently
How do you move permanently? What visa?
Welcome home bro!
Good little Chinese. I always wanted to visit China but now I am old and sick. I have traveled all over Europe and America. Your videos make me see China. Thanks
Believe me, there are many places in China where you can effortlessly enjoy beautiful scenery
Keep up the awesome works!
Thank you for your support :)
My God! What a marvellous channel. You are such a genuine & natural presenter, Yan. Great to finally see a lovely young Chinese woman presenting her country in such a natural, open manner and with fantastic English as well. An amazing ambassador for your country, Yan. ❤
Don’t worry about your spoken English. You’re better than a lot of others. We understand what you’re sharing with us. Keep going. Have a good weekend. I’m a Malaysian
Yes, Yan is so fluent! I am a bit embarrassed of my english speaking after hearing hers 😅
In contrast to the US, your documentaries about the Chinese countryside show smiling children and beautiful villages / towns and that China invests in its own population for the benefit of 'prosperity' & 'welfare' while the US invests in weapons and with the whole world is looking for a fight gives a lot to think about! I am a fan of the documentaries you produce!
Thank you for this wonderful channel and videos. I used to live in a rural Chinese area and this just strengthens my love for the Chinese common sense, warmth and hospitality.
Please continue traveling and documenting.
One of the best channels in CZcams.
Thank you for taking me on this adventure, what an incredibly beautiful place with nice people!
Thanks for your beautiful drone scene
Thank you for your support :)
She's so cute ❤ the way she is what we call the NATURAL BEAUTY ❤

@@littlechineseeverywhere You are most welcome . Keep up the good work 😊
Thanks for sharing the vlog about the Hani people in Yunnan.👍 Your video took me back to this extremely kind and beautiful ethnic group. I visited a Hani village in the Honghe region as a backpacking college student thirty years ago. I was fortunate to meet the village chief, a wise and amiable old man. Although I couldn't understand his words, I conveyed greetings and communicated through a local guide. Upon learning I was from Shanghai and Nanjing, the old man warmly inquired about the cities and invited me to share an early lunch. It was the best Hani-style semi-dried beef I've ever tasted.
Hani girls are healthy and beautiful, with incredibly lush hair and braids. Their braids are as thick as a girl's arm when coiled on top of their heads. While climbing a mountain together, I asked one girl if these beautiful braids were entirely made from their own hair. She generously unraveled her hair bun to show me, then skillfully braided it again. I was convinced their hair is three times more abundant than an average person's. They shared their picnic food with me, taught me to play a leaf flute, and made me feel as friendly as siblings. Thirty years have passed, and seeing the improved life of the Hani people brings me immense joy.
The rice terraces are beautiful like stained glass windows. Village life is so wholesome and communal.
Thanks!
Thank you for your support :)
Thank you for taking us to places where the mainstream tourism does not visit. I am like one of the Seven Fairies stealing a look down from heaven at the ground below. This is gratification being surrounded by loving people and contentment having such a beautiful view to wake up to each morning. Life is hard but a simple, happy life is what they have.
😅👍🏻👀
The younger generation is changing, and they all yearn for urban life. Because cities provide convenient living and diverse entertainment options. Perhaps a few people will return to the countryside, just like me. But at least when there is enough money, it is possible to return to rural life. The younger generation no longer wants to live a difficult agricultural life. Especially the place mentioned in the video, because farmland is built on hills. Mechanized farming is simply not possible. Unless the government builds roads, agricultural machinery can be allowed to pass through. But this will involve some people's land being occupied, and the government may pay more money. Land owners are also unwilling to contribute as road land.
This summer will be the first time I return to China, since the summer of 2019. My girlfriend lives in Chengdu, and retires from her job as a teacher, this year. We plan to marry, and live in China together - I am from the UK. Thank you for your wonderful videos, which have been an inspiration, and shown us many wonderful places to visit during our retirement. Keep up the good work, and thank you for your honest and thoughtful views of life in beautiful China.
I hope you have a happy life together. Seeing these video's China looks like a wonderfull place to live.
Congratulations. May you find peace and happiness in China.
Wish you can be a bridge of UK and China.
China is not perfect, but it's much much better than western media told their people.
Westerners destroyed all local civilizations(Africa/America/Australia), Asia is the last survived one.
So stop to making defamation and destruction. Diversity is really important for human's future.
Chengdu is a livable place with so many delicious foods.
I'm a 74yo Australian male and have just found your channel. Your English is impeccable. You're also a very attractive young lady ❤❤. I will follow your journey's. Love from Will Burns Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
13:00 we have like that house in my childhood
Wood and mud house
Smoking meet, fish and stories area above the fireplace
I missed my childhood memories
Watching this video, suddenly dawn on me ingenuity of human, it true all over the world ! Not having great plain like in America doesn't stopped Chinese people from farming! It's back breaking, but you survived!
This video is an eye-opener, where we really get to know the real rural China. Life is still backward and food is basic only. However, I note that the people are very happy with their way of life. Certainly, the government has done a lot to improve their standard of living. The natural surroundings are very beautiful and awesome. Keep showing us more of beautiful rural China
The most BEAUTIFUL place on earth is their rice fields. They might not be rich with money but they are rich with beauty.
I am utterly mesmerized by your videos. They are better than a lot of documentaries on mainstream television. You really should be recognized and awarded for your efforts.
Such communities could not have survived in north America for long. The indigenous peoples had their societies destroyed and today their descendants have lost even their native names. Even the Amish communities are now being threatened. It's wonderful that these people have been able to preserve their tradition in China.
Just a word of thank you to Yan, U are bubbly cute little and never failed to continuously bring joy and knowledge to all of us in this channel. May Heaven continue to be with you. Keep safe and healthy dear❤
The people seem so honest and nice. The singing was great.
The cloud sea was spectacular to behold!
Wow... It's rare for a vlogger to actually engage with the local people and understand them. So glad your video popped up. I will watch more.
Good music choice. No noise pollution. Nicely edited. The level of a professional documentary level.
Awesome video content as usual. Seriously Ms. Yan, you may not realised it but you are really a natural born film maker with an excellent story telling talent. Looking forward to your next video.
Yes waiting for the next one
Yes she can narrate on the go unscripted and so naturally. A rare talent indeed.
Great job Yan! U make the world to know the real china! Although there are poor people in china but I can still see they live happily there! this is the other side of china that no body want to video it! U did a really great job! U make want to go to china😂😂😂😂
Hello, Yan. Greetings from Singapore. I have always wanted to travel to Yunnan, but I don't know where to start. But after watching this video, you gave me the idea to visit this village. I really enjoyed your trip in this village. Thank you for sharing the video with us. You got 1 LIKE from me. Have a nice trip and stay safe.
Blood sweat and tears to put all those terraces in are something. Very interesting.
Be sure to give you a thumbs up! I have seen Yuanyang Terraced Fields many times, but I have never seen such a deep village visit to the lives of these ethnic minorities. It is rare for Han families to hang portraits of leaders, but it is often seen in ethnic minorities, especially in Tibet, where many Tibetan families will post portraits of Chairman Mao and Xi Jinping.
It would be wonderful to have YOU organising tours group - bring people together from different countries to visit China in near future. How about that?😊😊
I have been watching half a dozen of your episodes in the past few days. They are all excellent. You have used simple words to describe the beautiful and historic sceneries. Well done and keep up with your amazing work. 👏👏
Traditional Hani shirt with the converse high tops is such a DRIP!
Such an interesting video about Yunnan's smaller villages. The lifestyle is more like a village, simpler and closer to the agriculture. Yet it is easy to see the warmth and hospitality from the people. It is lovely scenery, made even more so by the friendly people. It is good the authorities are modernizing homes and buildings--it is important to improve quality of life & opportunity for rural parts of China. Well done ❤
Good morning, Little Beauty.
The place is beautiful. The shots of the terraced fields are stunningly beautiful.
i just finished the video and omg that is the most beautiful video i have seen. the drone shots were amazing and so vast. my jaw was honestly dropped. thank you for sharing that with us.
I can't believe I actually cry when I see this, I miss my grandma so much.
Yes, so many amazing things to see in China.
It's so beautiful and the people are very friendly.
Life in villages is basically the same, all over the world, despite the external differences. These scenes from China look familiar to me, here in Greece - even the village gotherings, when everybody contribute and eat together, is a very common sight in celebrations, marriages, fairs etc.!
My grandma's wake service in her village was like having a big feast everyday till her burial. She was honoured with huge crowds of villagers during her funeral of grand sent off in China with the huge expenses sponsored by my brother from Singpore.
I have being traveling around the world for about 25 years. China is my favorite country for its richness in culture, food and landscape. With your videos you make people even more interested about China. So far the best videos on China. Thank you
Yan's videos of life in China are ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT - nobody does it better - a TRUE PLEASURE to
watch and to listen to. I live in Asia and my late husband was Chinese so every episode is especially
meaningful. Thank you SO MUCH for posting!!
Your programme making skills and editing get better each episode. I am learning so much about China that I never knew before. It many ways, it is an unknown country to us in Europe, despite (or perhaps because of) assorted Empires! My mother was born in British Burma and lived there till she went to University - her education ended abruptly when the Japanese invaded. My grandfather (an Irish civilian) led convoys of American weapons into Yunnan province from Lashio (Myanma) for Chiang Kai-shek. When the Japanese invaded, he thought to take his family into the hills of Yunnan to stay with missionary friends, but they went to India instead. (My mother thinks he wanted to take them to a place called Talli Fu, or something similar sounding, but I can't find it. It may well have changed name, of course.)
But despite my mother's family living in Burma, India, Malaysia, and China for over a hundred years, I know so little about "Little China" - the ordinary China of ordinary people. Your programmes are simply fascinating.
I think the 'Talli Fu' you mentioned could be Dali (Yunnan, a few hours drive south of the famous Li Jiang). My father and my Mom were evacuated from Burma when the Japanese invaded then took over Burma during WWII . They were stationed in Dali where my father became the liaison officer for the Allied Armies of the British/Burma, American and Chinese. Later on, the family including my oldest sister (one year old then) were evacuated to India by the British Air Force or Army air transport to Calcutta, India. They stayed in India until the war ended then went back to Burma. By the way my home town is Lashio, Shan State. I've lived in the west for almost 40 years now.
You have brought a beautiful view of China that I will never travel to. It is such a beautiful place and the people are smiling and friendly. I wish we could all be on one wave length of building a better world for everyone, it could be done. Thank you for sharing this view you are so sweet. Hugs and love to you all Dixie Anderson in Oregon USA
Thank you for making wonderful videos on Chinese society culture, great job 👍🇨🇳♥️💖🇨🇳🥰👍
These people are so welcoming and friendly. Great community life.
Wonderful experience. Lovely to see the villages being brought out of poverty, too, rather than allowing them to become abandoned.
Love to Great China 🇨🇳 from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
That has to be a great place for children. I was raised in a rural area. Better than a city.
Yan, you are putting a human face on China, congrats!
If someone ever asks me for more information about China outside of Shanghai or Beijing. Yours is the channel I will direct to.
Again, another video that brings a smile to my face, your videos are just so amazing! China would be so proud of you, showing the beauty, simplicity, tradition, the people... and so much more. I wish someday I can travel to China, at least once in my lifetime (",)
Yan, you have a knack for natural unscripted narration besides your drone skills. 👍🏼
Chinese hospitality is their natural character.

Hi Yan, I am from Indonesia. Glad to see your video. CMIW, According to experts, the ancestors of the Indonesian people came from Yunnan and from Indo-China. So its like see our self. The terraces have always fascinated me. How wonderful that you got the drone up and had such a beautiful day to be out there. And the people seem so lovely. Thank you for sharing these special places! You do a great job!
Such an interesting Hani culture that has been in existence for centuries. Although still some what poor generally, I believe their living standards have never been better throughout their existence and can only get better with tourism. These Hani people have demonstrated such humility and kindness, their lives and thoughts still untouched by the geopolitics of hate and racism.

China is Extremely diverse just like many African nations.
China has many many amazing tourist attractions which should be carefully promoted.
This is beautiful. Life is tough for many, but they keep going and working hard. That I think is the character of China.
