    Always nerve wracking when something happens to a sled far from home. Three weeks ago i was two hours from my truck on salmon river rd a mile from Tug Hill Hook and Ladder when my rear left bogie wheel flew off my 2022 Renegade 900R turbo. (Dealer didn't tighten) Could have been screwed but there was a cabin nearby where four 25 year old kids came out and helped me and my buddy. They eventually pulled a bolt from one of their renegades and gave it to me bc they were heading home. People are great in the country!!!! Never know what can happen on the trail. Ride with buddies, pray for the best. Great video Paisteboy, hope your sled is back! It’s days like that where one considers retiring from riding lol !

      Great story Doug! The snowmobiling community is really great like that. Always willing to help each other out when in need. I found out after having my smart shox rebuilt that one on the rear shock wasn't fully tightened from the factory. Lucky nothing happened to it. I guess we need to double check our sleds before we take them out even though a pro worked on them. I got the sled back. Stay tuned for the final diagnosis. Thanks Doug!

    we use to ride the tug in the 90s when the 440 LC premix was the sled to have. i cant believe they make sleds without a pull start! i had lots of fun on the tug back in the day. its your turn now

      Thanks Barney. We were riding Old Forge in the 90's when we were in our early to mid 20's then took a break to raise some kids. Got back into snowmobiling in 2010. My last 2 sleds did not have pull starts. Didn't have a single issue with the last sled. Still trying to figure out why it did what it did that one time.

    My 2019 BCX had the same issue with the starter after a couple years. Works fine when it's cold, no starty when it's hot. Installed the pull start and cut a hole through the right panel for quick access.
    And also, if you bang the starter with a wrench it will start. Too bad it's so hard to get at.

    My brother’s XRS 800 had same issue a few years back. Happened at the end of trail 10 while we were sitting for a bit. It wound up being his starter solenoid. We pull started it to get it going and then rode the remainder of the day without another problem. Easy fix. You’re in good hands at Smith. They’ll fix it.

    • @Paisteboy
      @Paisteboy  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah. Thanks Brian. I've seen it before but with a sled this new it's disappointing to say the least. I didn't have a single issue with my Blizzard other than the loose coolant hose in 6 seasons. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

  • @johnsoj9

    Good job! I thought it was interesting that the other 2 guys didn't attempt to help at all? I would have been over and had the side panel off before you got off the sled! :) Also, if it didn't start unless you wrapped the clutch, I would have strapped the clutch cover on the back.

      I think we were all in shock because the sled us so new and the did both make suggestions. You're a take charge kind of guy and that's great. I don't think that they weren't doing anything because they didn't want to help I think they were trying to figure out what could we even do.

    That's crazy on a new sled no pull cord

    • @Paisteboy
      @Paisteboy  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The haven't been putting pull starts for many years. My 2016 Ski-doo Blizzard didn't have one either. Only sleds that come with a pull start are mountain sleds without electric start or some sleds equipt with SHOT starter which has no battery and requires you to pull start the sled for the first time of the day and then stores energy from that first start to then push button start the rest of the day. Apparently on my model sled the 7.8 color display fuse box is in the way of a pull cord but I've heard of people relocating that fuse box. I may do that.

    Hey Buddy....Thanks for sharing your trips with us. We have no snow in the upper midwest and haven't most of the winter. The problem you are having is the same one I had with my Renegade 850. The gear mechanism that the starter goes to gets gummed up with dirt and belt dust. Once a year you have to tear it apart and behind where they will install the pull starter you have to spray it with silicone lubricant. It's a real P.I.T.A. but its what you'll have to do. Also, the pull starter is almost all plastic, and after having to use it for this exact problem, i wore out the pull start. It's basically there only for emergencies. Good luck!

I just chatted with Rich Outdoors earlier today and he has a mission helmet but it looks like he is going to get an Oxygen helmet now. His only complaint with the mission is that it is too loud. The Oxygen is very quiet inside. I would get the E-LINQ if you ride a ski-doo as it is very convenient and eliminates the plugging and unplugging of the helmet cord. Hope that helps.

      @@Paisteboy Thanks - I assume it can be plugged into a sled USB power port so it will never die via the cold battery issue? (Like Gopro's have) Any advice in regards to memory card size - how many hours of video you can record per day that fits on a 1TB or 2TB card? As its 5.7k

      Yes. I have 4 battery and they work perfectly for about 80 minutes each with no problems in the cold but I now plug it into the sled.
      I have a 400 GB card and a 1T card. The 1T will record almost 14 hours. Not sure if you can go bigger than that and yes 5.7k.

    I truly hate to be another guy that asks why the hell would you want a sled without a pull start as at least a backup to your electric start? That makes no sense. Thanks for video tho.

      It's an extra charge but you'll see the real reason in the next video.

    Is that an 850? Tip it on its right side when that happens. Bad design.

      Yes. It's an 850. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind if it happens again. Thanks for watching.

      @@Paisteboy Same thing happened to my friend's 2018 Blizzard. A little research indicated that it is a common problem (That BRP has apparently not fixed). On the trail, I bounced the machine a couple of times and it started. He was well aware that the belt guard was not going back on if we had to use the emergency rope. Back to the truck over 100 miles without shutting it off. Our trip was cut short. Tipping on the right side came up on internet searches at the hotel. He put the pull cord option as you indicated you were going to do.

      It could, but when this happened I only had 1 thing connected to the sled. I also had only 1 device connected to my Blizzard with zero issues ever.
