    THANK YOU! It worked!!! We have the same HotPoint Dishwasher, which had the same problem....it would not drain.
    We purchased a 1/4 inch 20ft snake from local hardware and then used the snake to clear the pipe, probably of LOTS of fats and lard. Again, thank you very much.

    Thank you for posting this video! This helped to fix my draining issue on my HotPoint. The primary culprit was the drain hose, but I also took out the various pieces and cleaned them. There was a lot of gunk that looked like wet paper. We typically pre-clean (just wipe off and rinse) our dishes, so I'm thinking the gunk was a build-up from our dishwasher soap (have used tablets and liquid soap - very bizarre that it is causing the gunk). We usually run a maintenance cleaning cycle of vinegar through it around once per quarter or 6 months, but I'm thinking that this cycle should be increased to help with the gunk removal. I did notice a slight dripping from the drain plunger, so that will be my next thing to tackle. Thank you again.

    I had to sign in just to say first, this dishwasher is *DISGUSTING* ! Seriously, how did the owner get so dirty? Is it the water? My dishwasher is 18 years old and looks brand new inside (never hand cleaned it) also don't load it with food all over the plates either.The reason I'm here in the first place is I could tell it wasn't draining. After watching the video, I discovered by using a mirror and curved tweezers to remove a bunch of crap (like tie wraps, small bits of plastic and hair) stuck around the chopper blade. I actually learned *alot* about my dishwasher I didn't know before, so *_thank you_*

    Months ago, a tenant complained their same model of Hotpoint dishwasher was leaving soap residue on the dishware. I took the filters screen out. There were some small pieces of glass in the filter. The little blade inside was clear, but I cannot recall if I removed any glass. Everything was clean. It had a red drain ball or whatever and it was clear. At the time, it had been draining.... or at least the machine was free of standing water. Today, it is not draining at all. I ran the washer and I heard water discharging in the sink drain. However, I could not get the washer to drain again as I continued to test. It seems intermittent. I removed the drain hose from under the sink, connected a wet vac to the hose, and cycled the washer by rotating the dial on the washer, it didn't seem to be pulling water but then it did. I pulled quite a bit of water. The machine never fully emptied, though. When I cycled through with the dial, I never heard a click or sound from below the machine. It is loaded with water. My only idea is to replace the solenoid or tell the property manager to tell the landlord to buy a new machine. A stick of dynamite crossed my mind. Maybe I should pull the lower panel and take a look, regardless. Thank you. Edit: As I continue watching, mine is a different model but has the same control panel, it is a HDA3600H50WW.

    During the video the tech mentioned this model has a short drain cycle. Our issue is we have to run a drain cycle 2 or 3 times before running the wash cycle. The drain pipe appears clear as quite a bit of water seems to drain each time, just nor enough drain the washer. The dishes aren't getting as clean now either. Since the unit is at least 5 years old and we use it a lot, almost daily, I'm inclined to think the drain pump is starting to go. I may try running vinegar through it until we get a new, better model as this one was installed under a Home Owners' Warranty.

  • @mjmeans7983
    @mjmeans7983 Před 2 lety

    I have a different drain problem. The tub starts filling. After it is nearly full the drain lever bobs up and down by a millimeter or two and then slams down and drains. The motor and timer still runs as though it was washing, but the water is already gone. Then at the end of that cycle, the solenoid trips and of course there is no water since it drained early. The next cycle starts and it fills and the sequence repeats. So the next thing I did was to use a clamp meter to check the current going to the solenoid. When it drains prematurely, it isn't being powered! Next I used a screwdriver and held the drain lever up except when the solenoid is powered. It wasn't difficult other than having to lay down beside the washer for an hour to check through an entire cycle. The next thing I did was remove and check the spring that keeps it open and it was fine; no corrosion, and retracted completely. I then used a plastic wire tie to hold about a 1/3rd of the middle of the spring together, thus increasing the tension/pull of the spring. It then completed through an entire wash/rinse cycle on it's own (but without any dishes). Though the lever still bounced a bit. Now it gets through an entire wash cycle maybe 50% of the time. It seems that the water circulation is somehow pulling on the valve until it flips up enough to be pulled open by the drain water pressure. I'm thinking I should just go to the hardware store and buy a tighter/stronger spring since the drain valve is not replaceable by itself (you have to buy a new entire motor/drain assembly, which sucks). Any other ideas?

    • @VonGeggry
      @VonGeggry Před 2 lety

      I think I've got the same exact issue. Were you able to find a fix for it?
      I'll check out my spring. At least once it's dried out. I ran it with the door open a bit to see what sounds where what a bit.

    • @mjmeans7983
      @mjmeans7983 Před 2 lety

      I took the spring off and went to the hardware store to get a stronger one that is the right length. I actually bought two and ended up using the one that was only slightly stronger. The other was too strong. This 'mostly' worked. Next, in order to eliminate any possibility of some build-up of scum on the valve flapper causing drag in the water, I used "Finish Dual Action Dishwasher Cleaner: Fight Grease & Limescale, Fresh, 8.45oz". TWICE. and the rest of the problem cleared up.
      Ultimately, I'm guessing the flapper on my unit actually has some damage and in the long run it will need to be replaced, if I can find one that is not part of an overpriced entire assembly that would consequently replace perfectly good parts for no good reason. (I know. Fat chance these days where the standard practice is to sell and entire motor assembly for hundreds of $ when all you really need is a $2 bearing and a few tools. The manufacturers seem to just want you to buy a whole new washer and so they do their darndest to make it as painful as possible to fix almost everything. It's worse in the electronics industry, but I digress.)
      I also just ordered "Food Grade Citric Acid 5 Pound Bag" and plan to add a tablespoon to each wash in an empty up turned glass drinking cup I will keep in the corner of the top rack. My idea is that during the pre-rinse, the cup will slowly fill with hot water and dissolve the citric acid. Then that will overfill with water and slowly release some of the dissolved citric acid during the wash and later rinse cycles. I'll probably try the citric acid in the clothes washer (without clothes) to clean the tub.
      Another appliance channel suggested it as a good cheap source to keep clothes washers clean of soap scum; but unlike dishwashers where you can add it to a cycle while washing dishes, don't have clothes in the clothes washer when you use citric acid. Hopefully my clothes washer hasn't had so much build up that the scum is preventing a leak and cleaning it reveals a long-standing undetected problem.

    • @CoD_Maj3st1k
      @CoD_Maj3st1k Před 5 lety +1

      Depends. I have HDA2100V35WW so for mine there is a bolt facing the door that holds it in place. You need to take the spray arm off before you can take that out.
      To take off the spray arm there is a clip facing the back of the dishwasher that you need to take pliers to grab and pull towards the back of the dishwasher not too hard just enough to get it out while you pull up on the arm it should come loose. Same goes for the collar that clip needs to be pulled back for it to clear. Be careful tho they are plastic pieces.
      Hope that gives a little clarity. I tried to explain it the best I could.

    We just bought a house with one of these units and it is not draining. We will go into more depth tomorrow but we did take off the cover from the bottom of the tub and vacuumed the debris that was in there by the blades. I didn't feel those but will check again. Last week it drained just fine, this week there was an inch and a half at least of water after it was done drying. We removed the hose from the disposal and found water in it, but didn't have anything to snake through it. Tried pouring water into the tub of the dish washer to see if we could force water out and that did not happen. Is there a way to get the spin head off and clean it? I can see debris in the tiny holes but can't remove it or clear it out. Thank you for the video and thank you in advance!

      Ours drains too, just not completely at the end. I have to drain it 2 or 3 times every time I use it so we won't get sick. I've heard good things about KitchenAid and Bosch but we'll probably go with a Whirlpool or Maytag to replace it.

    Is there any way to drain excess water? The problem is I had put too much dishwashing fluid and it had caused it to have a soap bath on my kitchen floor. Now there is an excess amount of water almost covering the heating coil and still soapy. Is there any way to drain all the water at once?
    I have tried emptying it with cups. Then when I turn it on there is still soap fluid from the dishwashing soap so it gets soapy again
