  • Woodturning a Jewelry Cup in Curly Maple
Hi my friends! In this video I use a beautiful piece of Curly Maple to turn a Jewelry Cup or Jewelry Tray. The utilitarian shape of this piece lends itself for many other uses. This turning uses techniques both for bowl turning and for spindle turning. I also highlight the preparation of the tenon used to hold the blank.

    Disclaimer:
You, and only you, are responsible for your safety in the shop and for your health. The procedures shown in this video, (and my answers to the comments), although they are the ones I consider safe, are not necessarily so for every operator (wood turner, carpenter, etc.). Wood is a heterogeneous and unpredictable material, not two pieces are identical, even when they come from the same trunk of the same tree, shop tools and machines can cause damage to the operator, dust and other physical and chemical contaminants may cause disease and disorders when the operator does not take into consideration adequate protection. Always read operation manuals for your tools and machinery. This video can give you a point to start your research on what is the best for you, but, in any way is the only source of information. The level of experience of the operator is also a factor; procedures that may be safe for an operator that has a lot of experience may not be dangerous for an operator with less experience. If you do not feel safe or confident with a procedure you have seen in my channel, do not repeat it. Be safe and enjoy these activities.

Hi Bill! Thank you, my dear friend, for your always kind comments! Yes indeed! When I found the blank among the stock of wood pieces I have, I knew it would produce a really nice piece. In this case, the grain is the highlight of the bowl! Cheers! Daniel

Hi Greg! Thank you kindly, my dear friend for watching and commenting the video! Another subscriber made a great comment, and I wanted to share it because it is important, in the case of the perpendicular grain, if the design of the bottle stopper has a very thin part, it would be prone to break there, so the 90° grain direction should take that into consideration. Cheers! Daniel

Hi Paul! Thank you very much, my friend, I am glad you enjoyed the video! The blank was about six inches in diameter and I am not too sure about the height, but I believe it was between 3 and 3 and a half. Cheers! Daniel
