- I almost finished my paper and finally had some time to relax and enjoy my last days in Khabarovsk. In this video I will show you my university, city center and remote districts. The month was highlighted by two wonderful findings: new cool pants and a Soviet tram that is very whimsically illuminated from the inside. I hope you like this video!

As a grandfather of a girl near your age, I marvel at your maturity and wisdom. My grandaughter grew up in freedom and has no concept of what others must endure. And as much as I admire your character, it is sad that you can't be a carefree young woman for at least a little while. I'll also add that whatever country you choose will be fortunate to have you.
Love the deadpan sarcasm. Humour is universal. I love watching videos like this where you can experience life somewhere else, see people you didn't know existed and see what someone elses experiences have been. Sometimes I'll be stuck in traffic on a motorway, looking ahead at all the thousands of cars, each representing a different life, and wonder what those lives are like. What experiences have they had and where are they going?

That lighting in the Soviet trolley was low pressure mercury vapor incandescent lighting. It was standard in the USA from the early 1960's and into the mid 1980's. It was used in skyscrapers and gave them the same greenish appearance. At night it set the color of the cityscape of glass skyscrapers when viewed from afar. In the US that lighting is so fixed in a period of time that they bring back memories of the period and fixes a mood of nostalgia. But not really a nostalgia for good things, because living under those lights gave a gloomy feeling. The emission spectrum of those lights did not match well with the human eye. At night in a room with those lights, you always felt that something was off with the scenery of the room.

Yes but the, to be picky, old old tram had a yellow golden light. A bit sunny romantic or just warm odd at night. Maybe that's why they kept it.

The LED light bulbs are creepy too. I switched back to incadescent light bulbs which have a filament inside, and the yellow light is much warmer.

I love the old trams. It's really cool to see things from another time. The mood of them lit up at night and the noises they make when the doors open and when they roll down the tracks so slowly. For me this is as if I were in a time machine and was transported back. I love this feeling. Thanks for sharing it.
Good luck girl ! I'm myself from a a poor ex-soviet country , Moldova . And I had the courage to leave that shithole , and now I'm living in Italy for 12 years already with no intention to ever go back ! The first year might seem hard , but once you get over it , it'll be worth , trust me !
I live in Toronto and the majority of people here are either immigrants or the children of immigrants.
Definitely the first few years are hard! But there are benefits too and it is worth it.

@daniiel mlinarics as italian I absolutely agree! What kind of facilities can be better in kazakistan? Sure we have a lot of burocracy to start an activity as to open a coffee shop or whatever. Congratulations on your paper and finishing your degree! Another milestone in your life! I am glad you are able to visit your area safely and say your present goodbyes so that you can move on to a new life elsewhere, with no regrets. Adulting is hard enough. Having to make the choice to leave your home and country because it has nothing to offer to you is heartbreaking. Another great video! I think I love these vlogs because they’re very much time pieces about coming of age. I was just there myself a few years ago, so all I can say it’ll all work out. The hardest part for me was feeling depressed because I didn’t have a clear vision of the future. Eventually, I made a decision to follow a certain career. I realized that even if you make the wrong decision, by being decisive you’ll figure out what was the right decision faster. As long as you stay healthy and keep in touch with the ones you love, there’s always another opportunity to bounce back. Like you said, you just have to keep trying
I have been watching your videos for a very long time now and enjoy them tremendously. In fact many of the people I ride with (bicycles) are also watching you. The Soviet tram was so cool and spooky! It feels like one of those horror stories where you would get on it and it would drive you the afterlife or something. TY for trying so hard to find it to show us! And congratulations on your thesis! I hope you can make any edit fast and you get to graduate soon. I thought your video was very nice. Even in times of negativity and war it's always good to at least find some positivity. Being able to say goodbye is also important. It was nice to see the town as well.
And try not to focus on the creeps on the internet. They are everywhere unfortunately. Best to not give them any of your time. It's best spent on other things.
I dont think she realizes how important of a role she plays in the way people think of russians atleast for the many who watch her. Yes I'm the same, I don't understand how Putins approval rating can increase when he goes to war and I almost think this is how most Russians are and it makes me angry. Natasha has helped remove such hatefull thoughts and I think the more people watch her videos the better.

The contrast between the LED-displayed coffee machine and the university looking like the paint job was last done in 1930 really tells you what teachers and students prioritise.

University is the same everywhere, it seems. ;)
It's not like the students and teachers have much to say when it comes to maintenance of the buildings. Renovations are the government's responsibility, the coffee machine is probably put there by a vending machine business. Not really a sign of anybodies priorities, except the government's.

Natasha, I just want to say I (and im sure many others watching) believe in you. We believe you will get your degree, we believe you will move where you want to go, we believe your channel will grow, and we believe in your success and happiness. As a foreigner, I may not exactly understand of consequences of your dissidence, but every video I see where you reject and resist what the russian government is doing, to me its very brave and admirable.
And one other thing, I love how you find peace/ happiness in the little things despite the over all negativity in the world. How you were so happy to look at the old tram, to spend some time at the beach and how your were so amazed the river looked like an ocean in may, and how that guy waved at you. Natasha, thank you for showing us every day things. When I watch your videos, I am always struck by how similar common people are everywhere. Misery doesn't come from the people, but always from greedy politicians seeking their own power.
Democracy is very wonderful, but as the US shows, it can be subverted by a powerful minority. I am very worried about America. There are all these people who seem to have lost their ability to think rationally. Maybe that is true in Russia as well.

Yeah, the subverting of democracy by a powerful minority, well said. We are observing in the US how politicians use tragedies for self promotion. I am sure some of them are honest, and heaven help the good people who can function in political jobs. Thank you for your content Natasha! Your channel is so interesting to me as I was born in Russia and lived there until my family moved to another country. Your videos remind me of my childhood and give me back memories. What the cities and the countryside look like, your interactions with other Russians, who are often rude, how you think, your humor and the whole melancholy vibe is for me an exact depiction what Russia is. At least, in my memories.
Having lived outside of Russia for almost 20 years I can only say you stay a Russian forever. Deeply in your roots you understand the mentality of Russians better than of those people who surround you. So, thank you for reconnecting me again with my russian-ness. I feel you.

The Soviet tram reminds me of moving to San Francisco from Southern California in the 1970s. I rode streetcars that they had bought from Los Angeles in the 1950s because Los Angeles could not maintain them because they were too old. The interior lights had old time incandescent little bulbs like old sedans. The lenses were yellow with time. The streetcars were art deco streamlined with one headlight and one tail light. The hardware was 1930s & 40s vintage. They were fun to ride. It was like riding an antique. Unfortunately some of them leaked rainwater. You are lucky to have been born into a great civilization that has outmoded artifacts that are nevertheless advanced. I wish you the best. Пока-пока.

I know what a gigantic relief that is, and even with all of the picky little bureaucratic details to tend to, you' can celebrate being finished.
