Worth watching just to hear Jeremy say 'shagging'. All rights belong to the BBC. Had to cut about three seconds from the end due to the CZcams time limit - sorry guys!
I really have to give him a lot of credit for being a true self-made man. I know he didn't get a whole lot of schooling, but he's clearly VERY intelligent and quick-witted, and honestly, it makes me respect him a lot more. I appreciate well-spoken people, and clever people even more. Good show, sir.
i love how he goes so in depth into every nook and cranny of every single complicated question that is thrown at him and enriches and satisfies the viewer! he's incredibly captivating!
I never get tired of this dude... especially the way he speaks & the things he says. Amazing interview... Possibly the best I've seen. Love the way the interviewer seems against him in general at first only to come to a complete 180 about his feelings towards him by the end & genuinely being amazed & impressed by him. Russel Brand is just awesome!
Wow the way see speaks is so beautiful! It's hard to understand sometimes because not only does he speak fast he also uses as extensive vocabulary. You can tell he is so passionate in everything he does that's why he speaks so quickly as to get the message out because there is so much to say. I LOVE HIM!
Really enjoyed this interview, watching him makes me want to better myself, by reading more and by being a less selfish and materialistic person. Thanks very much for posting.
Russel Brand has really astonished me tonight. I never payed him attention because of the movies he's been in. But now....I'm speechless. This man is so intelligent and.....human. Can we say the same for other hollywood stars? I certainly cannot.
He took lots of psychedelics, you can see it in his passion and in his deepness the way he dives into a subject and comes out in a diffrent subject and he sees it all holisticly connecting together. A man with passion is a rare thing these days.
I don't see how people are taking his wide vocabulary as a defense mechanism for himself. Clearly he answers the questions directly with complete honesty. Just inspirational Russell Brand, anybody can find any more of these deep interviews of this brilliant person?
If Brand was "on something", as has been put forth in the comments, then it is a "something" to which I aspire. His fast talking might give pause, but the clarity, intelligence and cogent reasoning he puts forth are both inspiring and refreshing. Fame has laid its "icy hand" upon many... but few so deserving. Bravo!
he's clean and sober now. i think given his previous state, his recovery has been remarkable. his documentary on bbc 3 the other night, 'from addiction to recovery' is fantastic, and shows just how far he has come
This is true. SO many people bash on him on his appearance which I think is unfortunate. You are absolutely right; people have so much potential -- practically a living library.
He made perfect sense and clearly has an extremely developed and highly intelligent understanding of media's relationship with society. He understands his workplace and that interview alone was probably worth an honoury sociology degree. Honesty, passion, commitment, intelligence and wit, far more informative and entertaining than most politians and he answered the questions always coming back to the the main point. He has my vote
Wow, I must say I'm impressed with the way Russell plays the game. I would never have guessed that such intelligence and insight was lying behind the character portrayed in the media. No if only more celebrities had a heart and mind like his we could see the change in the world that he speaks about.
I like that neither of them are fazed by the other. You can tell that Paxman respects him highly, and they both recognise the other's intelligence, and it makes this a very good interview.
If anything paxman came across like he generally respected brand by the end. He will always ask direct questions but I have never seen him smile so much :)
Most people usually always focus on superficial things which is really unfortunate. There's much more to people than how they appear. As humans every one of us has infinite potential and I think we can learn something valuable from everyone, doesn't matter who they are.
Russell Brand isn't the stereotypical "hot" guy but he is captivating--his humor, the way he speaks so passionatly, I find him extremely attractive in the strangest of ways.
@Outc4st YES, actually. There's a great one with Dawn French--you can search it up on youtube. It has three parts and I think that's the most serious I've seen him in an interview. It made me see more of his...persona behind-the-scenes so to speak, like for once he wasn't acting the Russell Brand of the media but more relaxed, personal, and real. Anyway, check it out I think you'll like it. If I can find it again I'll try to send it to you.
"Perhaps we can draw attention not to the shadow on the wall, but to the source of light itself." WTF Plato reference. This man has my ultimate respect after watching this interview.
Firstly, he got sober before his first book came out a couple years ago. What you saw was what happens when someone is well read, extremely intelligent, and passionately trying to not only defend himself against the preconceived idea of who he is based on his love of playing practical jokes and acting like a kid. I've read the book, and it's outstanding. He titled it "My Wooky-Book" as an ironic statement about the dichotomy of his public persona and his real self.
I'd hate to be in a battle with words with Russell Brand. He's so smart and quick-minded. Just listening to him requires me to be palming my dictionary.
I wish my words and my mind could move as fast as his does
Woah, I love how he uses such fine words.
This guy is an amazing wordsmith. I loved listening to him talk.
I rewatch this every couple of months. It's brilliant.

Thank you BBC.
What an eloquent and dynamic individual. I certainly hope to see more of his work in the future.
love this man
You are spot on man! Especially when you mentioned Chesterton. Also, a little bit of Thomas Merton type mysticism in there too. Just brilliant!

thnx a ton mate (:
Amen to that sir. Very well put. I was just having this conversation with some friends today.
Really enjoyed this interview, watching him makes me want to better myself, by reading more and by being a less selfish and materialistic person. Thanks very much for posting.
I first saw Russell in the move "Take him to the Greek". Now this interview feels like continuation of the movie. Good stuff :)
Great interview.
Jeremy: "Blimey." lol my feeling exactly. What an amazing person.
this is incredible!
Wow this was...enlightening. New fan.
Could listen to him for hours. So articulate...
Jesus Christ man, such emotion, such emotional thoughts convoyed through such a poetic demeanor, such trueness and energy, can I give you a hug?
Thank you for whoever posted this to Reddit, y'all.
Russel Brand has really astonished me tonight. I never payed him attention because of the movies he's been in. But now....I'm speechless. This man is so intelligent and.....human. Can we say the same for other hollywood stars? I certainly cannot.
Russell really kept his cool and illustrated such a large amount of important concepts, never ceases to amaze
my favourite comedian. this interview is one that shows a completely different side to him than the media portrays.
He is so bloody awesome.
Such visceral terminology Russell. Loveee yaaaah

Such eloquence! Russell is quite the entertainer.
he is truly amazing!

Im sure russell is the only person that has blown jeremy paxman's mind :p
I love this man.
I love this guy
Great interview from Jeremy. Never once asked the wrong question and gave him room to speak.
i love Russell 3
Admission is the first step towards recovery. Congratulations on nailing that first step! Best of luck in all future endevours pal.
Russell is such a great personality and very eloquent while so damn hyperactive.
Such a genuine, likeable, intelligent, hilarious man. I think many people focus on superficial things when it comes to Mr Brand.
Brilliant!
Booyah. This is beautiful.

I bloody love Russell Brand, he's so unbelievably intelligent!
he is awesome
he's so lucid and quick
wtf this is a badass interview
Russell Brand is just brilliant!
I love that man.

Russell is so fascinating
i love the dichotomy of a guy that looks like this, speaking so eloquently, beautifully... love it
good interview. planet

My hero....
My respect for Russel Brand has grown. He is obviously a deep thinker and his eloquent, thoughtful speech reflects that. Wow
This is a fantastic interview. He comes across as extremely intelligent and genuine.
this interview was great. i like Paxman and Brand very much. they both seem to be very in touch
I might have to go take a look at his book now
new found love for Russell Brand.
Russell Brand is awesome.
Just shows how good an actor he is.
Wow, Such a philosophical man!
Thank you though, I really appreciate you trying to help me :)
Shadow on the wall, Plato. Nice, I think I love Russell Brand now :)
I like that neither of them are fazed by the other. You can tell that Paxman respects him highly, and they both recognise the other's intelligence, and it makes this a very good interview.
Interestingly well educated, with an immense vocabulary. Hats off, Sir.
..and another classic Paxman at 13:13 . This interview is a work of art in itself.
He is so incredibly eloquent
i shat myself..this mans too brilliant oh my god
Refreshing
He is always so excited when he talks..or it's just perhaps the enthusiasm of doing the interview.
This dude is so eloquent, my god
behind most brilliant comedians is an outsounding intellegence. that is russell. plus it makes him hot. good luck to him
I Love Russell Brand.
Russel Brands Vocabulary = WOW!
It takes something special to render Jeremy Paxman speechless. Good interview.
ohmygawd I love him
Just keep talking,.....
This Russell Brand guy is pretty cool. I love this interview. If anyone deserves celebrity then I'd say this guy does.
Wow, he is actually a great guy. He speaks alot of sense about stuff I have thought about myself.
If anything paxman came across like he generally respected brand by the end. He will always ask direct questions but I have never seen him smile so much :)
@Xenolinguistica good point. seeing as though i have never heard him speak before, i agree with that assessment.
Most people usually always focus on superficial things which is really unfortunate. There's much more to people than how they appear. As humans every one of us has infinite potential and I think we can learn something valuable from everyone, doesn't matter who they are.
One does not simply have a casual conversation with Russell Brand.
Russell Brand isn't the stereotypical "hot" guy but he is captivating--his humor, the way he speaks so passionatly, I find him extremely attractive in the strangest of ways.
I have a deep love of basket weaving! So inspiring :)

what a clever man
I completely agree with everything Russell says I just wish I could have put it as well as him
He had an hour interview in 15 minutes. Wow.
He's a Court Jester in the MOVIE kingdom. BUT he knows what he wants. Awesome Dude. Humble and Funny.
education + anger = pretty fucking great dialogue.
Ya know, I know a few people personally who are this articulate.
So, I am suprised how impressed people are - I mean that in the nicest way possible.
sharp guy indeed, it makes me rather relieved that there are celbrities who realize the position they are in and seek to amend it.
whoa.
"Perhaps we can draw attention not to the shadow on the wall, but to the source of light itself."
