  • Colonizing Mars might be the best chance to ensure the human species survival in the future. In order to adapt to Mar’s hostile living conditions, our bodies will evolve in ways that might end up with a completely new species of human.

    This video assumes that we'll chunk a group of people to Mars and then have zero interaction with them for hundreds to thousands of years. Speciation occurs when two populations are presented with a barrier to interbreeding and are allowed to develop separately over a long period of time. Odds are, that if we have a thriving colony on Mars, that there will be people coming back and forth and interbreeding between Martians and Earthers long before genetic drift takes the Marsenites to the point that mating is impossible.
    Odds are, people on Mars will be perpetually miserable because they'll keep getting injections of Earth genes which are made for Earth living. Unless they could rapidly genetically engineer themselves or find a technological means of overcoming the differences between the planets, then there will always be a struggle to survive on that planet.

      Perhaps not perpetually miserable. We might become more generalist than we are now able to withstand the differences between mars and earth on the fly. It stands to reason that people able to travel to Mars from earth or vice versa and be well enough to breed are most suited to withstanding the differences between the two. It would probably take a long time since we have the technology to counter the ill effects of environmental pressures, but the slight pressure should still be enough to push us in that direction. A space fairing species capable of withstanding a wide range of environmental changes more extreme than the difference in biomes on earth.
      Then there is sexual selection to take into account. Someone whose ill-suited to an environment is less likely to be perceived as attractive compared to those most suited. They would likely outpace those who are not suited when it comes to making babies. The "bad" genes might not be totally erased, but they would definitely become less and less common or recessive.

  • @realtonysolo
    @realtonysolo Před 6 lety +5

    I dont think it would change that drastically. If they manage to build a biodome to filter out the radiation and make the dosage similar to earth, it would take way longer to evolve. The gravity will be the biggest factor. You have to remember new humans would still be coming from earth to live there, and just coming for a visit as well and Martians would go live on/visit Earth.

    • @JanetStarChild
      @JanetStarChild Před 6 lety +16

      Basically this...
      *Terraforming* _(literally, "Earth-shaping") of a planet, moon, or other body is the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the environment of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life._

    • @JanetStarChild
      @JanetStarChild Před 6 lety +15

      I know Venus is much more difficult to terraform, but it's ultimately the better planet. People can't "terraform" gravity, unless they somehow add mass to the planet.
      Also, Venus is much closer to Earth than Mars is.
      And no, I don't have a "bf" (I'm guessing "boyfriend").

    • @vince5572
      @vince5572 Před 6 lety +2

      @JanetStarChild Před 6 lety +16

      Oh the irony that you're calling someone else dumb while being completely ignorant of the fact that Venus has comparable gravity with Earth, which is a big deal for human health.
      Ask any astrophysicist which is better; They will tell you it's Venus.
      Even without terraforming the planet, people are still better off living in sky-cities on the clouds of Venus as oppose to underground bunkers on Mars, inside giant spinning centrifugal-force rooms, just to compensate for the weak gravity.

    Hybridization would almost certainly be possible between an adapted Martian and an earthling, you just need to have a common ancestor (can’t remember the exact number) for safety my estimate will be heavily conservative. 1 million years meaning that 1 million years of DNA changes would be needed, even factoring possible genetic mutations, the time window is quite large, as I understand it.

  • @Euphoryaaa
    @Euphoryaaa Před 4 lety +2

    This is all giving me ideas to write a sci-fi story that takes place in the not too distant future and humans have colonized a couple planets in the solar system but not all of them. While Mars-dwelling humans have completely evolved. And then there’s space shuttles that go back and forth between Earth and Mars and maybe a couple moons of Jupiter and Earth’s moon. We’ve cut our interplanetary travel down from months to a few hours due to new discoveries. So trade is able to happen fairly quickly between planets/colonies.
    Earth is partially underwater and the continents have shifted a bit. Hundreds of years prior, overpopulation and the effects of global warming caused many refugees to migrate to other planets.
    Mars is completely terraformed and separated into colonies/countries based off the ones we have on Earth. So we’ve got many different ethnicities of Martians as well.
    Damn the lore can get pretty interesting and grounded in actual reality as well.
