    Decent test there ! Great effort checking it out, taking a bit of care and thought goes a long way so kudos to you. One thing you might want to look at is using newspaper instead of the pellets - bit more eco friendly for the hipsters out there.
    On another note and if you wanted to do more testing, I can walk you through how to setup a temperature logger and send you some bits in the post using a raspberry pi if you ever fancied it

      Technically I'm recycling the peanuts as they what I have from people shipping me stuff 😉
      I've just bought a temp logger off amazon for about a tenner 👍
      I have raspberry Pi too - didn't even think about using it for that!

    I buy moderately expensive plecos off the web in the US and I always pay for overnight shipping right to my door. It is certainly more expensive but I never worry about when it will come, the stress on the fish, or temperatures.
    But that's when spending $150 or more on a few fish, not just buying some inexpensive fish where that wouldn't make sense.
    The normal way they arrive is with the foam-lined box with a hard foam piece on the bottom and top also, basically forming a totally foam box, also double baggies on the fish, and crumpled up paper inside...no peanuts. Also there are heat pads randomly placed (quantity depending on temps).
    Seems to work great.

    Interesting video, I did think if the box got stolen from the car, their faces when they opened a bag of water would of been priceless!
    I've received fish in the post with the heat pack sellotaped to the inside of the lid. Not sure this would make a difference though.

    Postman here. Got to be honest if using Royal Mail I’d personally only use special delivery to send fish at the moment. Lots of 1st class delays due to self isolating, social distancing etc.

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Good tip thanks - That's why I'm looking at upping my packaging as the shrimp have taken 48hrs a couple of times now recently (thankfully still been fine) so want to make sure they will survive any delays comfortably. Maybe I should offer it as an option for delivery as it's quite the price hike.

    The heat pad in contact with the water and a sealed box is the way to go imop as you say temp test needs done to see max temp won't be dangerous. Good vid 👍

    Heat rises. It will radiate sideways also but with less efficiency. The results make perfect sense. Having the heat pack under the water allowed conductive, radiant and some convective heat transfer modes. As long as you find a useful indication from an experiment then it was scientific enough for your purposes.

      But couldn't the extra rise in heat also put the fish in danger as the bag heats up

    • @AquariumAdventures
      @AquariumAdventures  Před 3 lety

      @@juwelkeeper It could - the main thing I've seen from testing is that as long as the heat pad is not in direct contact with the fish bag, it doesn't get a chance to get hot enough.

      @@AquariumAdventures Absolutely brilliant service folks. During lockdown I've bought (ALOT!) of fish online (not from Aquarium Adventures BTW) and had as many bad deliveries as good ones.
      This delivery was perfect!
      Water super clear, fish perfectly healthy. Well packaged and will not only use again but will whole heartedly recommend 💯.
      Now for the numbers..
      Arrived Burnley next day (14/10/20 10:49).
      Outside temperature 9.9°
      Outer cardboard packaging 17.1°
      Outer Polystyrene box 18.4°
      Inside Poly box 24.2°
      Heat Pad 42.6° (😯)
      Snails 22.1°
      2x Pleco 22.4°
      1x Pleco 22.3°
      Shrimp 23.4°
      All super healthy and happily swimming around, with nothing bad to report back.
      Without doubt the best fish delivery I've received.
      (Before anyone suggests it - I paid for these full price and offered to report back temperature readings).
      Awesome job - I will be back 👍👍👍
