  • A clear starter guide to 4231 with inverted fullbacks.
This is not the perfect definitive guide, or a lesson on positional play, but it is a good start point to help with some basics and stimulate discussion.
There are many more fine details along all of these actions, which can only be addressed by practice. Nothing beats experience for revealing what needs to be worked on.
Everything is relative, and while not all the positions in this animation have clockwork synchronisation relative to ball movement and position, the single biggest thing that will create a complication to this plan will be the opposition. They will of course be plenty more animated than you see here and will be looking for ways to adjust the way they play to beat the way you do.
Please feel free to question everything in the comments. I'll do my best to answer ASAP, but maybe others are willing to discuss too.
I hope you like the video.

do you maybe have a few drills to practice this on the training pitch? We have a maximum of 14 / 15 players each session. Would be great if you could help me out.

I would incorporate (unopposed & opposed) patterns of play drills as part of the warmup (really shouldn't make drills the focus of your session!), it would allow players to get a physical representation of what you are collectively looking for on the pitch. You would then want to design SSG's (7v7, 8v7 etc) based around a phase of play, or half pitch with goals in suitable locations for specific outcomes.
