1v1 Midfielder Skills | 3 Skills to Dominate the Midfield Like INIESTA

  • I watched Iniesta play Football for 100 hours, and here’s what I learned about his 1v1 abilities.
    In this video I tried for a more documentary styled look (kinda) to go with my tutorial.
    What stood out for me when watching Iniesta was not the incredible ways he dissected a defensive barricade with a singular pass, nor the extreme vision to always know where the space is - but something central midfielders barely demonstrate in todays game, and that is a proficiency in 1v1 skills.
    But not just any 1v1 skills, Lateral Movement Specific 1v1 Skills. Let me explain...
    Timestamps for Your Convenience
    0:04 - Explanation of Lateral 1v1 Skills
    2:30 - Demonstration of 3 Lateral 1v1 Skills + Progressions

    Hi Savvy, insightful analysis and documentary style!!
    May I make 2 suggestions?
    S1. May be try to dress in all white (easy to find and to the eyes), and shoot against a dark background on a sunny day?
    Firstly, the color will reflect more light, which means your body will absorb less heat. You'll sweat less, and enjoy your creative work more :)
    Secondly, the color contrast is going to make the contour line of your body and movements pop a lot more.
    S2. Your set up is so professional (perfectly-maintained pitch and cones) that it might intimidate those who misbelieve the only way to improve one's skills is by breaking one's bank.
    Thank you so much and I can't wait for your next uploads!!

      Hi Kit-Shing,
      This is some golden information right here - I have only just started to learn how to edit/film etc on the go and having people within this small (but awesome) community is what is really special about being a CZcamsr.
      Thank you so much for your support my man and I’ll note down your suggestions for safekeeping when I’m filming next 👌❤️

      @@SavvyFutbol You are welcome, Savvy! :) I highly suggest a Japanese CZcamsr, Masakazu Okabe, to you. His channel is called "Dribble Designer Okabe". Okabe emphasizes training (timing, pacing, footwork) with a metronome. What I admire about Okabe's channel besides football is, his subtitle does not rely on some random auto-translation. Therefore, Okabe has total control of presenting his "Okabe's Dribbling Philosophy" as a very user-friendly learning service and product globally!! My learning struggle of non-Cantonese tutorial channels makes me relates to the hearing disabled I played with in some pickup games. Please check his link below out and let me know what do you think Okabe's marketing approach. Cheers Savvy! :)

    The thing about Iniesta that’s most impressive is he knows when to do these and when to just pass and play simple. Some people will do these and get tackled because they pick the wrong moment. He always does everything to perfection.

    This is good. Also Coutinho and especially prime Coutinho is a worth player to analyse his playstyle. I remember adopting many midfielders playstyle and training hard to make myself a very own unique playstyle before going to a friendly tour. It didn't work out for me there and all of these training I did I thought I needed to do more. But playing against better technical and game knowledge opponents really gave me experience. When I came back to home, out of nowhere I was playing like a pro. Having the unconscious mind knowledge of when to dribble and pass, I was a complete different player. At that time I realised that experience is key. Adding experience with hard work will make you better player. Before the tour I didn't knew the importance of experience, after coming back, my body started doing the best things out of nowhere.

    • @SavvyFutbol
      @SavvyFutbol  Před 2 lety

      This is 100% true - I don’t know if you know about the “Zone of Proximal Development” - but what it means is that in order to better yourself, you have to be doing something that is harder than what you were previously doing.
      So going out and playing against more tough/fast/intense/technical/tactical players is only going to make you more tough/fast/intense/technical/tactically better.

If someone has to dominate the midfield , he has to be a monster at all aspects related to the midfield, and not just good in progressing attacks. The tutorial is pointless. I mean, it's not because it will improve your control technique (if you practice it on a daily basis for years) but you will not dribble your opponents in the midfield once you've learned these tricks if you couldn't before: it's a matter of timing, prediction and instinct much more than owning technical skills: you don't think, your body does it. You got it or not. And, above all, this is just Iniesta's way, not THE way. There just isn't a single, correct way.

    • @SavvyFutbol
      @SavvyFutbol  Před 2 lety

      Thank you for your input Paolo,
      These skills are foundational skills which are then turned into unopposed dynamic movements (eg, cone weaving). The next step will be to engage in 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 for practise of these skills, and then to progress them into a game.
      Of course all players have their own unique style and ability - this was just a general take on lateral movements as I found them very interesting. After watching Iniesta, and comparing him to other midfielders, there aren’t many midfielders out there who are able to play like iniesta when we purely talk about take on ability.
      That is why I covered lateral movements, and the importance for midfielders to have at least a few in their tool kits.

      @@SavvyFutbol Yes, these are basically the foundamentals they teach every kid from day one: I ain't saying they are not correct (they are) or you shouldn't have shown them: I just find them somewhat unrelated (or just partially related) to the topic. For example, when talking about dribbling, first thing that comes to my mind is the distance between the foot and the ball, and the ball and the opponent: best dribblers always have glue on their shoes. Nice video anyway, I appreciated it.
