I'll offer a bit of advice to anyone who has those middle of the night ideas and has trouble getting back to sleep. If you keep something within reach of your bed that will let you write it down, or just do a voice recording, in other words to put the idea in a safe place so it won't get lost, usually it's much easier to get back to sleep right away.
I really admire people who sew their own clothes. I thought I might learn to do that but then found out that I really hate sewing. So I will just appreciate all the more the things that people make!

Mel this is the 71 year old that told you to Teach. Hope you remember without insulting your memory bank. I know in my heart without watching Part 2 of the Montreal Festival(but Joanne Hurt will of course watch lol) outfit will be spectacular. I'm trying to hurry this comment so I can get to watching in order to prove myself right. Again, your vlog is cozy, homey, naturally progresses from steps "A through Z" that even I can follow without the mental capacity that you have. I said this to you before your natural way of teaching sets the tone of what a teacher in our today's society should be. Damn I wish you were in the trenches(not a bad place to be, it was our slang for what we loved doing. It is like all people can be mothers or fathers, but not all can be good parents). I disliked the phrase others do or succeed while others teach. I use to always respond with (especially to those that were haughty and fool of themselves) "Well, Mr. or Mrs. so and so, where do you think you would be without your Kindergarten, Middle School, High School, or University Professors? Marty, if anyone dares says anything as stupid and ignorant to you, please send them my way. Yes, I am old as dirt, but you have taught me a few things at your tender age and I appreciate that so much that my cup runners over in pure delight. I still haven't completed one sweater, one scarf, one pair of gloves but I haven't stopped learning new stitches i.e. Fisherman's half rib, Italian bind off and on, twisted stitches and many more. It is just putting it altogether. I have trigger four sweaters because the front may be a different length, or one sleeve to long. I tell you Marty nothing is a mindless knit to me. You always have to have your mind engaged. What is wrong with me girlfriend I love the fact that I am knowing knitting and my stitches are beautiful, but once again, I can't put it into a garment. I may like the mechanics of the knit vice the outcome. What do you think. Please forgive my being familiarity texting you, but you have become a teaching colleague and a virtual girlfriend lol. Because my time is shorter than longer on this planet, I am not afraid of a welcoming or a rejection. I hope to continue my texting to you without getting on your last nerve nor would I ever want anything from you just your goodwill and you will always have mine. Yas, my Marty teach Honey teach. Now I'm going to part 2. May 15th or something. Real time for me is May 27, 2023 lol. Ms. Hurt

Dear Mel, it’s beautiful, I can see that already and am excited to see part 2. Great combination of techniques to get the look and fit you want. I have often thought that there seems to be no good reason why button bands and bind offs couldn’t be included as part of the garment before the steek (Asa Soderman’s Ziggurat technique prompted that thought). The Irish crochet thingy is a great way to do the finishing of the steek. It’s a brilliant finish for the zipper too. I like how neat it is. You are going to look fabulous in this!

Sorry for the numerous posts. I'm an experienced sewist and when you were sewing the zipper in I got an idea. to make the zipper inside prettier, lay a piece of thin bias cut fabric (thin fabric, wide strip) between the knitted garment and the knotted ends. Then place the zipper on top, and sew as planned going through the bias fabric strip. Now, trim the yarn which you had knotted to the width of the zipper. Bring the bias fabric over the edge of the zipper and whip stitch it to the zipper. Visually, it will look like you have bias tape over the edge of the zipper. This will avoid having to line the garment to hide the edge. Hope you can visualize what I am trying to describe

I only had black and white previously and I thought it would be a cute little surprise inside that only I would see to have pink. Seeing your pink overlocking confirmed it for me. Now I just need to go make something so I can use it. I have been eyeballing Essex metallic linen for a skirt. Maybe this is a sign. Thank you for all the lovely inspiration!

    Watching twice as usual :)
I'm not a crocheter and might be completely wrong on that, but would not that crochet edge be a perfect steek threads hiding spot? I mean instead of using several threads of unrelated yarn and crocheting around them, would it be possible to maybe braid (or just hold together) the loose threads from the steek and crochet around them instead? This way it would hide the threads and provide stability at the same time. I'm probably completely wrong, just a thought I had while watching :) Can´t wait to see the outfit reveal!
