    Whenever someone asks for podcast recommendations yours is always the first I give. I love how you give just the right amount of detail, and get me thinking about aspects of this craft I would have otherwise never considered. Happy New Year, and thank you for the inspiring videos!

    Thank you so much for a channel full of the content I love and aspire to. Your Ralph changes are absolutely perfect and it was so helpful to see your behind the scenes process. It is also very helpful when you illustrate some of the hiccups you encounter in your various projects and how you solve them. Thank you and happy knitting for 2023 and beyond.

    Thank you for sharing how you fit the garment after knitting it. I am excited to look at my failed knitted sweaters now with an eye to thinking of it as fabric that can be sewed to fit me. Best wishes in 2023! 🎉

    So interesting how you took those three patterns and put them together. This is my favorite podcast as it is so much more than "look what I made"!

    I just discovered your channel and I am catching up with all of them (loved the tip about the cables popping more on 3ply and lace more on 2ply), I love your way of explaining things and your very calm voice. But I thought I HAD to leave a comment when I saw that mashup of MW pattern, I audibly gasped. What a beauty !!! The colourwork, ease, fit, it's all exquisite. I am going to tackle a Marie Wallin pattern soon and someone left a comment on my channel recommending to check you out for colourwork tips, and I am so glad they did ! Thank you for sharing all your projects and wisdom :D

    I only found your podcast a few weeks ago and I love the way you approach knitting and podcasting. Your knitting is fantastic. I especially love how you fixed the pulling up effect on your Ralph vest. I have noticed a lot of colourwork v necks do that peak effect at the centre front. Great idea of yours to remedy that issue.

    Congrats on meeting all of your self-deadlines and on such successful and satisfying projects! The Marie Walin mashup-all-over colorwork sweater is particularly so stunning-the dominant pink floral motif really reminds me of cherry blossoms. Also, the way you demonstrated the cutting process to cull fabric from the vest is inspiring - you made something extremely scary look quite doable. Happy new year!

    A great episode, Mel, thanks for all the good ideas. I have poor results with small diameter color work, so I am absolutely going to copy the two at a time steeked arms.I thrifted a men's traditional Fair Isle vest, button front. It was too small for the intended recipient, and too large for me, but I am inspired to experiment further and see what I can do to make it work for me.

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  Před rokem

      What a good idea to experiment on a thrifted vest! I agree, small circumference colorwork is a bit of a pain - there’s a reason you don’t see me making many colorwork mittens or socks 😉

    GREAT job of finishing that neckline! (and everything you do!) Re the distorted stripe at the v-neck--that happens with all striped sweaters where the stripe is close to the neckline. I've been trying to manage that for years, and my only successful work-around is to have the colour change as far as poss from the neckline.

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  Před rokem

      Thanks for confirming that re: the distorted stripe! I’ll have to plan ahead a bit more in the future for where the necklines will hit 😊

    You’re great for explaining all of this. It’s complicated. Also glad that you have sewing experience to use. It makes it more accessible for us lesser knitters. Have you ever used your serger before cutting away extra knit fabric. I keep wanting to try it on a ridiculously too big sweater. Thanks again. Deb

    • @melmakesstuff
      @melmakesstuff  Před rokem

      I haven’t used my serger for that, although I’m sure it would work just fine. I usually just do a narrow zigzag on my regular machine because I feel like I have a bit more control that way.

    Thank you for another wonderful podcast :) Watching twice as always.
    I think the colorwork vest might be a bit more versatile with pockets. This way when you wear it you could have your hands in them, making it look more casual, no matter what you wear underneath. Love what you did with the neckline! I was looking at that pattern and the weird pulling at the neck center turned me away from it initially. I did not know how to fix it :)
    Chestnut is beautiful!! Perfect fit!
    Looking forward to the japanese pattern series
