He scored 73 in a game with the best efficiency ever.
He has the record 30 and 35 points consecutive triple doubles
His stats have NEVER been done before.
The next best player in the team was injured for long time, the next 3 are: a rookie center, a veteran minimum and a come back from Europe. All of them also injured for a while.
If Jokic won it two years ago, I can’t imagine a reason for him not to win it this year

Luka’s stats are backed and are results of superclass performances. He is dominating against everybody.
The success of a team depends first and foremost on the coach. Kidd is not a good coach. That’s the problem with the Mavs.
MVP is an individual prize, it’s not given for the team performance. And by the way, very often it’s much more difficult to shine above everyone in a mediocre and broken team than being the star of the leading team. Jordan wasn’t worse player for years, his team was worse. After that the coach Phill Jackson came and we know what followed.
But MVP or not, Luka is the best player in the world. He is a genius and is unstoppable.
The jealous haters will try in any circumstances to put him down. If he wins a NBA championship and/or MVP they will start then to count their numbers and compare them with someone who has more.
But this is shallow and pity.
Who was the better player - the five-time-champion Steve Kerr or the zero-time-champion John Stockton? Of course the mighty John Stockton. And this comparison it’s not an exception at all.
The second best player in the world is Jokic. Incredible leader with superb basketball intelligence and a lot of great technical and psychical abilities.

Just for comparison the Nets without KD legitimately were a lottery team the past 2 seasons.

And I didn't just say without Luka I meant to say without Luka when Kyrie plays but i made a writing mistake.
They are 3-2 without Luka and when Kyrie plays this season and they were also 6-2 last season if im not mistaken.
Because not having your two best players is a completely different situation. Basically every great team would be a lottery team without their two best players.
The nets were 5-10 without KD last year with Kyrie playing.
And they were something like 12-24 without KD and with Kyrie 2 seasons ago.
The suns were 7-13 last season without KD. Then he played and they didn't lose the last 7-10 regular season games
With KD the nets had the second best winning percentage in the east for the past 2 years. Possibly the #1 but I'm not sure if it was better than Boston.
My point is his team is much better than the wizards and he's not as good as KD, Giannis, Jokic, or embid.
      Mainly because of his defense.
That's literally why his team is always struggling to make the playoffs. He doesn't impact defense.

Also consider that he was playing with mixed lineups of G League players (and Dwight Powell starting center lol) during that same stretch. I don’t watch the games of other MVP candidates as much, but from the games I do watch, guys like Jokic and SGA have specific sub patterns and lineups that they operate in every game no matter what. In addition who is more exciting to see ? Who is more creative on the floor? Luka stats show he should have 18 assist a game and if his teammates made there shots Dallas is winning far more games. MVP to the player who has made the most impact for the year. So 73pts in a game and how many 1st this year, leading scorer, top 3s assist number 2 in 3s made, .This is an easy decision MVP Doncic. It would be really interesting to see from a stats perspective that after a team misses and then chooses to go into a new action next time down the court, how often to they score immediately off the new look? If it is a high percentage, maybe it is worth having a new action every. single. time. down the court. This way the defense has no chance to guard against your time tested plays, because you might score off of it and then never run it again for another 50 possessions. They'll never see anything coming.

The voters aren't watching the Mavs games or else they would think Luka is MVP
He is the Most Valuable Player for their team
    - Most double-teamed player of all time in a season
    - He scored 73 in a game with the best efficiency ever
    - He has basically averaged a 35 point triple double this season - 35,10,9 -
    - He has been playing most of the season without Kyrie and other key starters. Has been literally putting the team on his back all season and it's amazing they won as many games as they have
    - Literally all of his statistical averages are at a career high ( and they are insane to look at )
    - 1st, in scoring, 3rd in assist, 18th in rebounds, 7th in steals, 2nd in 3's made
The Mavs a real shot at finishing 6th in the west, possibly 5th.

The MVP belongs in the same category that figure skating, where judges decide how well you are doing. And it's even worse because it's an individual award for a team sport. And even worse because it focuses on the regular season that in the NBA might as well be a different sport than the playoffs.

An MVP should be based on who is the best player in the league and it should go beyond just how much their team in winning. Winning should be one factor, but it should be who is having the most awe-inspiring and dominating play. Some teams would be good without their main guy -- and we have advanced statistics now where we can measure I guy's impact on winning. There should be a formula that can be created that says that of the amount of teams an MVP candidates team has won, what is the impact on winning that they've had where it can be compared across candidates. And in Luka's case, as long as his team is going to make the playoffs, people in a similar position should have just as much of a chance to win if it can be shown that they have an equivalent or better impact on winning for their team. The criteria for winning should be that the team makes the playoffs -- it shouldn't be able the best player on the best team or top few teams. That way a guy who is having a historical season has the chance to get it -- similar to when Russel Westbrook won it.

    @saywhat2698 Před měsícem

The MVP award is about contribution to the team, not about how high you can put your team in the rankings because it's not only up to you as an individual. For me, the fact that the Mavs are 8th right now is mostly Luka. You take him out they are maybe 13th in the west, you take out any other 2 players from the team they are still at least 10th. If a player has good enough stats and efficiency and can put his team in play to win the NBA title which for me is at least 8th seed (the old system) that means his excellence brought his team into contention for winning it all and he deserves to be seriously considered for the MVP award and by this logic, this years MVP is Luka, maybe Jokic.
Now i do agree that if a team is 13th for ex, that player will have better stats just for the fact that his teammates are so bad because it's all on him and he didn't actually achieve anything since his team didn't make the playoffs so his stats are at the end of the day "useless" for the lack of a better word.
In the case of Luka and the Mavs you have to consider the fact that Kyrie is not the best fit for Luka, i think Dallas would be better of with another all star, maybe someone who is not a PG and plays more, i also think we can agree that J. Kidd is not the best coach out there to say the least, so the Mavericks being an 8th seed, possibly even 5th considering everything is a miracle by itself, a miracle called Luka Doncic.

The same with Jordan in the 80s. No matter how good his stats were, if his team doesn't get into the 5 best teams in the season. I don't think he should be in the discussion, no matter how crazy the numbers are. This is a team sport...i would love NBA give him more credit and love, but it is what it is. 2:30 ur not wrong. And i dont think Luka should win it as an 8th seed for sure! But there is definitley a difference in what Luka’s doing on an (individual) level this season and every other candidate (not counting embiid cause he’s ineligible but he was obv having the best szn prior)
Luka’s having quite literally a top 5 offensive season of all time so thats why i think ppl r weighing his run differently than sgas, giannis’s and jokic
(i think all 3 of them are more deserving atm tho cause again they have a better mix of winning AND stats)
but if Luka were to move up high enough like 4-5 then i think he has a good chance at winning it (assuming neither nuggets bor okc are 1 seed)
