  • My first Major Marathon was the Berlin Marathon this year. An amazing course, what a great experience.
    I spent a very short weekend in Berlin, but had a very full itinerary and got to see a lot of the city. Besides the marathon I wanted to share some of those things with you too in this video, my visit to the Berlin Zoo, the German Comic Con, the Ramones Museum and the David Hasselhoff museum were among the things on my to do list.
    The race was a tough one, after running 3 races at Disneyland Paris the weekend before I could feel it in my legs, but that didn't take away from the joy of the experience.
    The video is a bit long, but most of my marathon videos are. Let me know in the comments what you thought of the video.

    I watched 3-4 race videos tonight, to start getting psyched for Berlin'21 in less than 10wks. Yours was the first to show actually running through the Brandenburg Gate. The others showed them approaching it, then shutting off video until the finish. Weird. Anyhow, great video. You gave me some great sightseeing ideas, tho I think I'll wait until AFTER the race for the heavy walking ones (zoo, etc). lol I see you ran Dopey'18 in the suggested videos list, so I'll watch that tomorrow. I ran it too, so maybe you recorded me. lol Time to go for my late-night run!

I know! Ugh! If you can't imagine it, there isn't much hope for me. I know intense and focused training would improve my time, but I think the level it would take to even get in the realm of possibility for a BQ is not possible for me. I hate setting a limitation on myself like that, but I also like to be realistic.

      @RunArnoRun  Před 4 lety +1

      Meredith Rice people tell me from part 4 it’s really good, so I kinda want to watch them, but that means I have to get to part 4 first before it’s good. 😂
      I’ve been seriously looking at it since I ran Berlin. And am going to look at all my options to see what is best, but I also want to train to still run a half under 1:30, so once I’m there I might try and keep it up to go for a BQ. The thing for me besides it being extremely hard is also that I’m always filming, my races, but also my training and I would have to run a marathon that I won’t film, so that all just makes it harder. On the other hand I’ve been working on a new program aimed at running faster so it would be great to actually show what it can do and set a BQ for myself. But just thinking about it, pfff half marathon is one thing, but a full is a whole different ball game. 😀

      Kana Lord Eliud Kipchoge ran in Vienna last weekend to try and run under 2 hours and he did. Last year I wasn’t at Berlin so missed out on meeting him. Maybe some day we’ll run the same race, that would be cool.

    Congrats on this one! You are really running all over the world. What was it you drank before the start at 3.11? Was that beet juice? And for now the Amsterdam marathon October 20th?🤣 See you at the Zeven Hills run in Nijmegen! but I am not as fast as you are, so when I get in, you are probably on your way back home 🤣

      Yes, I was drinking beet juice. I'm not running in Amsterdam this weekend. I have a little bit of a foot injury, so taking it a bit easy. Looking forward to Zeven Hills though, that should be great. Who knows, maybe we'll run in to each other.

    First major. Nice. I hope to do a major next year before I get too old.

      Which one are you hoping to run? Now that I've done Berlin I kind of want to run all 6 of them.

      RunArnoRun Chicago. I live there, so really I have no excuse :). Lifelong runner.

      ErikTheRed I’ve been to Chicago twice, great city, was never there to run though and was a very long time ago. I live 15 minutes from Rotterdam, that has one of the best marathon courses in Europe and I’ve never run it either. 😀

    Great video. Nicely edited. I’m running this on Sunday! Are there any energy gels or drinks available on the course?

    • @RunArnoRun
      @RunArnoRun  Před 2 lety +1

      There were plenty of drinks on the course and I think there were Gu gels there on the course too. When you look at the course map it should say exactly where you can get drinks and where they will have things to eat or give out gels. Good luck on your race, it's an amazing one!

    They were shouting “Jia You” which in Mandarin literally means “add more oil”. In the context of the race, it probably means to put in more effort and run!

      Hahaha, that's funny. Thanks for that. They seemed to really enjoy themselves, so that was fun to see. :-)

    Great run and congratulations. I'm registered for 2020 and I really wanted to get an idea of the course. You did a really great job of providing that so thanks so much. Curious though:
    1. How did you find the elevation gains? In looking at the map of the course I can see that there is one, but I can't judge how intense it is.
    2. The entrance into the runners area looked really different from New York where I brought in some snacks and reading material while I waited for my wave to be called. From your video I get the impression that that isn't the case in Berlin. Is that a fair statement?
    3. From what I saw, it looked like fueling stations were abundant. I do have a habit of running with my own water belt, but it does get uncomfortable on my longer runs. Do you think it's needed?
    Congrats again on your first Abbott event. :)

      Hi, thanks for the compliments. Congrats on getting into the Berlin Marathon.
      I didn’t think the elevation was very bad, there are no steep parts to the race, maybe some parts to go up to a bridge or a road that is slightly elevated, but you hardly even notice this on the course.
      The bag check is quite a distance from the corrals, so if you bring stuff you want to check in, that is not very handy. If you can get rid of them you can still bring it in to the corral I guess. The corrals are in one very long line just waiting for the start.
      There were plenty of water stations I thought, so I wouldn’t bother, but I never bring my own water to a marathon. If you prefer to be able to drink whenever you want to it might be convenient, but they have plenty of water and power drinks on the course.
      Good luck on your race and with your training. I loved the Berlin marathon and I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I hope to do the other 5 in the next couple of years too.

    Congrats on your race! Very enjoyable vlog of your experience. Where did you find the footage from the on course cameras? Are they available on YT or on the Berlin marathon website? Thanks.

      @RunArnoRun  Před 4 lety

      Nathan Clifford thank you. You can buy the footage of the cameras. When you go to the website of the marathon, go to the results page, search for your results and on your results page there is a link for ‘marathon photos’ here you can buy a video of all your marathon clips.

    At the 6:30 mark the asian cheer squad is saying, "GA YAO", which literally translates to add oil, another way of saying Go! Add more power/energy, You can do it! :)

      Awesome, thanks for that. They seemed very energised. Funny to be yelling that already at the start of the race. 😂😂
