The biggest part that wasn't mentioned, is that you can find Dr Pepper on both Coca Cola and Pepsi fountains anywhere you go. That subsidizing to the top 2 makers really helps them.
Yeah it’s crazy that Dr. Pepper is distributed by both Pepsi and Coke. On the plastic bottles of Dr. Pepper, the top says bottled by the Coca Cola Corp. aluminum cans of Dr. Pepper says Pepsi!
@@MrSquekersUPSB it depends on the state. South Texas cocacola distributes both plastic and canned Drpepper
I hope it comes to India soon
This is huge for them. People have strong opinions about Coke or Pepsi, but Dr. Pepper is so good that even Mr. Pibb couldn't compete with it, despite Coke having an insane amount of distribution.

I used to drink Walmart's store brand "Dr. Thunder" for a while in college because I was so broke I didn't even feel like I could afford Dr. Pepper. Once money started to get a little less tight I switched and it felt like a miniature religious experience. Dr. Pepper is so good....

Also as a side note, Dr Pepper is bottled by Pepsi, Coca-Cola and 7up Bottling. Depending on where you are in the US the shape of the bottle dictates the bottling company. The blend is the same but the shape is more recognizable to show who it was bottled by.
That's interesting, I'll have to keep an eye out for those different bottles.
Back in the early 2000's at several of the Domino's Pizza (corporate stores) I worked at as a delivery driver in far west Houston metro area, we noticed that our customers preferred the Dr. Pepper 20 oz bottle drinks more than any other soda flavors. So much that eventually (as the story was told to us) that Coca-Cola demanded that Domino's drop Dr. Pepper as one of the choices for our customers and replaced it with Mr. Pibbs (which was supposed to be Coca-Cola's version of Dr. Pepper). Our regular customers were NOT pleased with that change.

Dr. Pepper once tried to trade its 23 flavors for Colonel Sanders’ 11 herbs and spices but a deal could never be reached.

I've always found it interesting how most places in the US are either a Coca Cola restaurant or a Pepsi Restaurant, yet DR. Pepper can be found at all of them.
In the Uk, they rarely have dr. Pepper other than in the stores 😩. That means, I can never have a dr Pepper with my cheeseburger. So I have to stick to coke.
I’ll occasionally have Pepsi but Dr Pepper is my fav out of the three.
Does Dr Pepper not sell well there? Or does coca cola does not like to sell Dr Pepper?
The everyman's drink
In Norway it is either Pepsi products, or Coca Cola products. But 7UP is a part of Pepsi.
In Canada Dr Pepper is only in "Pepsi restaurants" not "Coke restaurants"
I've always theorized that they probably called it Dr's Pepper as in "The Doctor's Pep--er". Due to the popularity of the word "pep" at that time period as seen in everything from coal and cocaine benefits to energy from radioactive products in the early to mid 20th century. And they simplified it down to "Dr. pepper" because it probably seemed obvious and simple as the pepper from the doctors. Dr. And pepper. Two easy words to associate with health and energy.
Similar to how Pepsi has Pep-Si in it
If you add the botanicals from from coke and root beer, it adds up to 23 flavors. If you mix the two at a 1:1 mix, it tastes like Dr. Pepper. It works with nearly every cola
No, no it doesn't. I've tried this and most eveyone else that tries this says it is not the same.
Well, I’ve had inverse results with myself and anyone who try’s it with me. Idk what to tell you, maybe there is something wrong in your methods

@Ch Erry In 1898, small-town pharmacist Caleb D. Bradham looked for a name that would better describe his formula -- which he was selling under the name "Brad's Drink." He bought the name "Pep Kola" from a local competitor and changed it to Pepsi-Cola.
Part of my first job when I was a kid was in the grocery store sorting 5 Cent refund pop bottles according to brand. It was a lot more confusing back then when all the brands didn't belong to one company.
It would be great to hear more about the original Dr Pepper Bottling Co in Dublin, TX and how they continued to bottle with sugar until just a few years ago.
We still use sugar, just not for the exports, only for tax reasons. We started to use Apple juice for the sweetness, that because expensive, so now we use stevia, a artificial sweetener.
Dublin wasn't the original bottling plant, they just made it with Pure Cane Sugar the longest using the old recipe. I use to grab a bunch of them when I would travel through Dublin on my way to college in Alpine from East Texas around Tyler. Then I started to see them in stores around Tyler. I knew they had an agreement with Snapple to not sell outside the 3 counties around Dublin but thought it might have changed. Well, it didn't and they were quickly sued out of the rights to produce Dr Pepper. I felt bad for them but they did violate their agreement with Snapple in which they signed.
They were forced by Snapple to shut down production of Dublin Dr Pepper, though they still make sodas as Dublin Bottling Works. Visited their museum a year before they shut down from the pandemic in 2021
They closed due to an ant invasion.
Dr. Pepper is like the friend of both major competitors of soda. You can find them at either fast food places carrying either Coca Cola or Pepsi beverages. Which is something I love going for when at Burger King, McDonalds, and Taco Bell.
Yet its its worse then both

Same here. Though Coca Cola's Cherry-coke and Mr.Pibb are a pretty close 2nd and 3rd for me (And Pibb was made specifically to imitate/compete with Dr. Pepper, so obviously Dr. Pepper did something right).
Docter pepper is on top! Even though I live right next to the pharmacy where pepsi was invented!
I haven't had soda in 15 years, but Dr Pepper is definitely excellent.
Do you consider Dr.Pepper to be a kind of root beer?
@@paulallen5914 I would honestly almost say so in a way
I worked at a bottling company that produced Dr Pepper, among other sugary fizzy concoctions. I can tell you that while I couldn't tell you what the 23 flavors are, I do know that the concentrate they used was straight phosphoric acid that came in a tiny box. Each box would yield 10,000 units (2 litre bottles), and the stuff had a cloying, sickly sweet odor that would stay in your nose for days. I couldn't drink DP for years after I left that place.
I'm a supervisor in a Dr Pepper Snapple group warehouse in Texas, one of the largest. What they don't post online is that for a period of time we were producing and shipping monster. We also store pallets of coca cola cans/bottles to be shipped as well. Coca cola uses our facility to distribute their product to save on shipping and extend their reach.
Thats sick man, cant imagine the volume you manage in that warehouse
When I was a kid, I used to think Dr. Pepper was half cola, half root beer, with pepper from a pepper shaker added. Yes, I still am that dumb. For what it's worth, I do like Dr. Pepper.
In my opinion, Dr. Pepper has just a hint of cherry flavor. Actual cherry sodas, however, have too strong of a cherry flavor and don't taste as good as a Dr. Pepper.
LOL!!!!😂
In Britain we have a drink that tastes like Dr pepper which is called Dandelion and burdock

I do need to call out that you missed an important piece of the Dr Pepper history. Over the years, the recipe had changed (I believe primarily related to switching from pure cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup). But... due to some stipulation in early acquisitions, the original bottling plant in Dublin, TX was permitted to continue selling Dr Pepper in bottles with the original recipe from that location only (meaning no distribution). It was always a treat to drive out to the Dublin plant and get REAL Dr Pepper.
Later, when the Internet became a thing, the Dublin plant sold their bottles of the original recipe online and would ship cases direct to customers. I loved this since I live in AZ and would periodically order some cases as a treat. However, I believe Snapple felt this was in violation of the original agreement that restricted them to only sell locally in Dublin, TX and they sued. I think the result of that lawsuit was that the Dublin plant could no longer sell that product under the Dr Pepper name, even locally.
I always felt that was a shitty move on the part of Snapple, using their big corporate power to snuff out a niche product that wasn't wasn't mass-produced so it couldn't have been cutting into their profits/market share. 😞
Dublin wasn't the original bottling plant, they just used Pure Cane Sugar which you can still buy here in Texas. Waco was and is the original bottling plant.

In some parts of the south if you ask for a soda, you get a Coca Cola. If you arent specific otherwise, its a Dr. Pepper. In Texas a bottling plant was opened just to only bottle Dr. Pepper.
In fact, Dublin, TX was the oldest bottling plant still making the original recipe of Dr Pepper (granulated cane sugar and all) until they got a C&D for shipping it outside their contractual radius about 10 years ago. I was disappointed. Dublin Dr Pepper was the best. Their orange cream soda is still really good, though.
Sippin a pep atm
Never thought I'd see u here 😂
ima start calling them peps now
That’s a crime, arrest him!
Wouldn't you like to be sipping a pep too?
Sippin a Dr Pepper Creme atm
Fascinating! Honestly. I don't know if anyone remembers, but Dr pepper ran a good campaign promoting its product to be served HEATED. I clearly remember an ad where a French Canadian lumberjack comes into a cabin from a snowstorm, and orders his wife to bring him "Dr Pepper HOT weeth Lem-OHN!"
I'd love to see a companion piece about the late, great JOLT ("All the sugar--TWICE the caffeine!") Cola OR, what about Canfield's diet chocolate soda?
Dude I love your videos so much! 😂
My favorite soda since I was a kid. The only soda I drink at McD's these days. I remember my friends scratching their head when I'd be the only one drinking Dr Pepper and everyone else was drinking something else. Part of the reason might be I liked cream soda and all my friends hated it. Funny times.
Have you tried Dr Pepper & Cream Soda yet? I think it’s pretty good
Coca cola and Pepsi taste like battery acid these days.
Asmongold taste
They made probably the best product placement in history, putting their brand into the Steins;Gate manga and anime in a way that actually corresponds really nicely with the characters.
Dr. Pepper: The Intelligent Drink for Choice Individuals.
El psy congroo
Was looking for fellow scientists in the comments. Not disappointed.
Putting their brand into the Steins;Gate manga was probably not the best decision considering it doesn't exist.
Been a Dr.Pepper fan since the first time I saw a commercial when I was visiting the US almost 30 years ago. Got to actually try them when I was in Germany in 2001 I believe and then got to a place where I could get my Dr.Pepper supply any day.
And 7UP is one of my alltime faves as well. Like it more than Sprite.
And I liked RC Cola when it was around - but it's been abandoned - at least where I live.
Now, however, I gave on most fizzy drinks - only the occasional G&T.
Great video. Theres RC cola hiring in my area and that led to this video. Thank you
The legendary musician, composer and singer Barry Manilow wrote the Dr Pepper jingle.
Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe? 🤣
Not impressed.
Barry did a *lot* of jingles.
I gotta say, Barry didn't nessisarily write those jungles in his Very Strange Medley section of his shows.
His job at the time wasn't so much writing them, but arranging already existing jingles.
Give your face something to smile about.
Honestly the biggest surprise of this video for me was the fact that Dr Pepper isn't owned by Coca-Cola or Pepsi. I was under the assumption that Pepsi owned it but I guess not.
Working at a grocery store I have to tell you that you're not alone. Most people think Coke owns DP. In fact Coke handles everything to do with DP business wise for our company.
I always assumed they were owned by pepsi as well, I constantly see their products around Pepsi. At pepsi exclusive restaurants and such, or the dollar store when they sell the pepsi 1 litre drinks for 98 cents.
I believe that Dr Pepper is bottled at both Coke & Pepsi plants depending on region, which may be why a lot of people think this. You can usually tell by the bottle shape, the Coke bottled ones being in that cone shaped bottle and the Pepsi bottled ones being in that standard Pepsi bottle shape they've been using for some time now.
@@dharma_dude This is 100% accurate and something that was completely left out of the video
I think Pepsi owns Mr Pib.
I actually stumbled into the dr pepper museum in Waco. It's honestly a good time.
I was first introduced to dr pepper as kid in the early 90s on a road trip to Texas from California. Been addicted ever since but it doesnt taste the same now
What I find interesting is that depending on what part of the country you live in, Dr Pepper comes in different bottle shapes because either Coca-Cola or Pepsi actually distributes it for retail. Arizona, it happens to be Coke, but when I lived in North Carolina, Pepsi distributed it. Crazy stuff.
yes where I live it (along with Schweppes ginger ale) always goes on sale alongside the Pepsi products, but not 7up for some reason
It doesn't really depend on the state or region, but the specific bottler. In Portland, Pepsi bottles Dr Pepper, but in other parts of Oregon it's bottled by Coke.
It's completely messed up in Europe. In the UK (where coca cola produce it) the branding is completely different, as are the flavours. We occasionally get Dr Pepper imported from Europe to some stores, which tastes totally different and comes in different bottle designs. I believe Keurig own the rights and produce it themselves or license it to PepsiCo in Poland, which results in the weird mix match of drinks that are called Dr Pepper.
It's a super confusing mess of trademark law.
Outside of Texas, there are few, if any, Dr Pepper bottling plants. They rely on Coke or Pepsi bottlers.
@@calum5975 Now you’ve made me want to travel Europe and taste the Dr Peppers.
kinda weird how so many old sodas were originally marketed as health drinks
It's like how cigarettes and stuff didn't have warning labels and you could smoke anywhere.I guess us humans learn slowly but at least over time lol
Part as just back then you could claim whatever the fuck you wanted.
The era of snake oils.
(Usually such claims for which ailments The product would take care of was longer than the side effect labels on pills these days lol)
And most sodi pops had copious amounts of hard drugs in them lol.
@@jeridkasper69 ya those hard drug high fructose corn syrups.
I can think of multiple things promoted as healthy that are actually the opposite nowadays.
Dick Clark also pushed hot Dr. Pepper during Xmas in the 60s. You put Dr.Pepper in a sauce pan....heat till hot.....put in a mug....add a slice of lemon. His radio commericials to this effect can found on U Tube.
Cool info. Funny thing I do not like to drink soda much. But my 3 favorite in order are Dr Pepper 7up and A&W Root beer.
In Canada, Dr Pepper and 7-Up are distributed via Pepsi’s bottling network.
That is why we never got Sierra Mist.
Your not missing anything!
Probably for the best.
Looks like you mist out.
In New Zealand 7 up is through pepsi and Dr Pepper is not really sold at all
@@MrWhipple42 get out
I think you missed a very important bit of their success. In 1963 they were legally determined to not be a “cola,” this ruling meant they were then able to distribute their products to the masses by using bottling companies that had exclusive contracts with either Coke or Pepsi. That was a pretty massive win at the time.
Staying right on the level consistently.. A great business attitude
I was drinking a Dr Pepper and decided to Google this. This is what popped up!
Great little bit here friend
You should turn your video library into a podcast series! I think the content is packaged perfectly for short podcasts.
I think this is a great idea
Podcasts are gay
Ars you a gey!!!?
If he did podcast they would hours long
@@samm3863 not all podcasts are hours long. Some can be as short as 5 to 30 minutes
I live in Texas, that is pretty much all of my Texan friends drink.
Great info. Thanks
Fun fact: Keurig is not only the #1 single serve coffee maker, but it's ALSO the #1 single serve.
... Alcohol drink maker... (I think mostly because nobody else does that)
Yup. Lo and behold to my surprise when I stumbled across and was gifted a Keurig Drink machine. It's legit... Like, you buy these disposable recyclable pods that contain the alcohol and drink mix concentrate that is then mixed with water and depending on the drink, carbonated (it has a refillable carbonation tank thing inside).
I've had a lot of varieties but my favorites I think is the Tom Collins (a gin and lemon/lime citrus soda based drink), strawberry margarita (it's on the rocks ofc) tho their aloha one is better imo, long island iced tea (surprisingly accurately potent and smooth for the size of the drink capsule).
It's small enough to fit on a coffee table or counter, and is just disturbingly good. You put the capsule in, put an appropriately sized glass under, hit a button and bam, done, clean it occasionally. Oh and it does have other settings you can adjust but I haven't had a need to.
And the cherry on top is it comes with a lock accessory that allows you to lock it when not using it so children and the like cant use it behind your back
I recommend looking it up for the amusement at least
Video about coke and Pepsi yes!
They're both racist, end of video.

My dad was an advertising executive and did a TV campaign for Dr Pepper in the 1950s. (I believe the films are in the archives of Duke University)

I've never seen people obsess over Coke or Pepsi the same way Dr Pepper people love Dr Pepper
Company Man, you should definitely do a Bigger Than You Know video on The Coca-Cola Company! Fun fact: Coca-Cola used to own Columbia Pictures until the movie studio was sold to Sony in 1989.
I thought the "Dr Pepper, so misunderstood" ad was going to be the catchy one from the 70's.
