Unlike other chains, you can't just shovel money at Chick-Fil-A to apply to become an owner of a restaurant. They meticulously vet potential owners and turn away anyone who is just looking to invest money and be a hands off owner. The owner of your local Chick-Fil-A has has roots in your community and cares about its people.
There are no stockholders that the company is beholden to, they aren't looking to wring out as much profits as they can year after year. They don't oversaturate the same town with more locations than it needs.
I used to work at a Chick-fil-A and I can say that was the best job I have ever had. There was times something happened in my life and I couldn’t show up and they were so understanding. I lived a few minutes away from the Chick-fil-A and when I didn’t have a way to work team members would offer to pick me up and they didn’t even want gas money. When I tell you we really do enjoy working there I mean it. Everyone is so friendly and the managers are so understanding
@UC_HDLXvYK_1nJxFj0QjDbYA How about you calm down😂 obviously every Chick-fil-A will be different. They have different employees and different managers so just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean everyone else who worked at Chick-fil-A will go through the same thing

No joke I once got my food before I was done paying, it blew my mind.
The in-store atmosphere is like the mirror universe version of Popeyes.
I love their chicken sandwiches and the fact that when you ask for extra sauces, the employees don’t act as if the sauces come from their checks like mc Donald’s and Popeyes.
You can now buy their sauce, bottled in stores. It's great.

I work at CFA. Some of the things talked about, like the friendliness, close and qualified management, and franchise selection really do stand out the more you know. My store operator is very friendly, knows all of his employees by name, and greets everybody with a hug when they come in to work. That alone creates such a friendly atmosphere for his employees to thrive in. Beyond that, he also doesn't spend his time looking over people's shoulders to make sure they're doing it right, because he trusts them. Also, whom he has set as a team lead in a specific department, he himself will work under them. There was one time he kept asking one of his employees to let him work in the kitchen, but because the team lead said to stay up front, the store operator obeyed his own employee! He creates a friendly personal community that respects each other, and builds up his employees' confidence to do their work without worrying about making a mistake. He also encourages his leadership team to read books about leadership and management and councils them in hopes that some of them will one day head off and run their own Chick-fil-A. He is the best boss I've ever worked for.
But being picky about who manages their stores also applies to their staff. When I was hired (back in 2017), I went through three different interviews with three different managers. They were clear and upfront that they wanted to hire friendly people, and that they wanted to get to know me before hiring me. Now with employment being harder, they can't be as picky, but friendliness and work ethic are two things they focus on most.
Speaking of work ethic, -I think that is the final key to CFA's success. They are fast. The only way you get your food more than 30 minutes after arriving is if the entire city is in line in front of you. When it gets busy, all hands are moving.
Oh, and by the way, it was my homosexual friend who referred me to Chick-fil-A. That friend also said that his CFA-family were some of the most supportive people in regards to his sexuality. Yes, many of the workers and staff do hold to traditional marriage, but they certainly don't hate gays.
Omg a hug?? That is so precious
1. They actually care about their customers
2. they actually train their employees on how to make the food properly
3. the chicken tastes good.
1 and 3 are true but 2.... wouldn’t say that’s a guarantee lol
AND they don't buy what they can't afford. No significant debts.
That should be crucial to any business strategy, but somehow it isn't.

i feel like the closed on sunday is a really great thing because
1. religious employees can go to church and other religious places
2. all employees get the day off of work
3. lots of people want it on sunday, so lots of people just come on monday
Feel like they miss out a whole lot on essentially game day sales. Think of how wing sales due on Sundays versus other days obviously it works for Chick-fil-A but if they gave franchises the option to open but mandate people would have unlimited leave on Sundays they’d make more money
@@Speedster___ You can’t put money before your beliefs
Scarcity too, I can go to McDonald’s whenever but chic fil a is going to make me want to go there on a Saturday because I know it’s closed tomorrow
As an employee at an extremely busy CFA location, I have to disagree with the 3, because Monday is by far our least busy day. If anything, our Saturdays are busier due to people buying food to eat on Sunday, but it could just be that it's buy because it's the weekend.
@@daddydiesel7177 By the numbers, they are doing fine. They might lose money if they opened on sundays. And principles are far more valuable than money.
My sister used to work at Chick-Fil-a. We were hanging out one day and went to a coffee shop. The barista thanked my sister for the business, and I watched my sister choke on saying, “You’re welcome” because “My pleasure” was so I routine for her at the time. 😂

Another factor to consider is staffing. They don't run their employees ragged from being shorthanded. They're willing to have enough people working to cover their needs.
This! Not to mention that they seem to do their best to make the working environment as tolerable as possible for their staff.
In locations where the rush hours seem to be insane, they invest in things like drive-thru carports w/ fans, ice-vests(vests that have pockets for ice blocks), outdoor heaters, and all sorts of things to make their employees' jobs more pleasant. I've even seen locations where the drive-thru have 2 lanes, but a separate building with a special conveyor belt from the main building that transports the food from the kitchen! It seems to me that they give their well-selected franchisees a lot of lee-way as to how to organize and improve their locations as they see fit, and from what I gather, the financial backing to do so, so long as the essentials to the franchise(such as the food), are consistent.
In urban areas, I've seldom seen a Chick-Fil-A that doesn't have a good "quirk", so good on them for letting their franchisees innovate in their locations.
I don't know about this. The location closest to me has lines blocking traffic (even before the pandemic) on a major street. Can't figure out wtf people like so much about it to be waiting in 1/4 mile lines. They won't be fighting me for a spot. I haven't gone in 10 years because I don't agree with their corporate policies about being dicks to gay people. Wish they would go away and stop blocking the street.

The fact that there's a comment above saying that he forgot his wallet and they gave it to him anyway

@@SirFae It's even worse sometimes. One time my family was traveling in the middle of Texas. We stopped at this McDonalds as it seemed to be the only place for several miles. We had to wait in this long line for a good half hour in the drive thru. Once we got our orders, my quarter pounder meal that was ordered plain was not plain and had no fries. Then this terrible conversation occurs
My Dad: Hey! This burger was supposed to be plain. Can you please replace it with a plain one? Also we ordered a meal, so we are missing our drink and fries as well.
McDonalds Lady: No! You ordered a Quarter Pounder. That's what you got.
My Dad: *somewhat angry, but said in a nice tone* We ordered a #2 meal plain. We never mentioned the words Quarter Pounder.
McDonalds Lady: No! You ordered a Quarter Pounder
My Dad: *Shows receipt that displayed PLAIN Quarter Pounder MEAL* It says it right here. Can you please fix this? We've been here for 30 minutes.

The staff is courtious and friendly, and I like the fact they are closed on Sunday. I have heard CFA tries to have good relationships with their employees and it seems to be true.
As an aside CFA seems to have a very close business model to Fareway Grocery Stores based in Boone, Iowa. Fareway started in the 1930's and is in Iowa and the surrounding Upper Midwest states. Fareway has always been closed sunday and most all major hollidays so employees can have time for family and friends. Fareway is known to be CLEAN, economical, and the specialty is the meat market that is famous in Iowa. The employees also seem to stay for years and are known to be real customer orented. Simple business model. They also never build a new store until all the other ones are free and clear.
Kinda crazy how the two dissimilar businesses have so much in common.

About ten years ago, I had a meeting that lasted long and I hadn't had dinner. I was about a 10-20 minute drive from a Chick-Fil-A location, and I couldn't remember if they closed at 10 ot 10:30. So, I called the location and I asked which one. The person who picked up the phone told me that they wrre open until 10, but not to worry about it and just get there when I could. I got there at 10:03, and there were literally people waiting in the parking lot, and they greeted me just as well as if I was there in the middle of the day, accepting my apologies for them staying late with thelr usual enthusiasm, filled the order (even with my request for no pickles on the sandwich), and wished me a nice ride home. Something to add about the selection of operators/managers is the length and rigorous process they go through to find the right candidate.
Yes, you only need 10k to open a store, however, you will go through multiple interviews. Your friends and family will be interviewed. They will do a background check on you, your financials, social media and do a psychological test.
You will have to work as an employee to learn every aspect of operations.
And thats not a guarantee, you may go through this process multiple times until you are selected.
If you are selected, you will have to go a location of their choosing, which could be anywhere in the US.
Once you are selected, you will be involved in operations that you dont see other managers from other restaurants do, such as cleaning the lobby, parking lot etc.
Employee selection is just as selective. Combined hours of multiple interviews can tske up to 3 hours.

Brilliant. You give away the first one... Then they're addicted forever!!
Coming from a current chick Fil a employee, the positive attitudes of the employees comes from two main things;
(1) at my location I make $13/hr which is amazing for a fast food restaurant, and (2) the managers and even the owner of my store treats the employees with genuine respect.
I have never gotten yelled at nor shamed by anyone there other than a few angry customers. Everyone is kind, and we do our best to help each other out, which crafts a supportive work environment. The customers then feel the positivity and even forms friendly relations with some of the employees. This positivity has a great impact on the entire experience of getting food from there.
I’ve have been working there for a copy of months and recently quit, but it does seem like i did have a different experience at chick fil a, for the pay people got paid minimum wage and if you work long enough/4-6 months you would receive a $.50 raise but the working conditions are very inconsistent depending on leadership. Sometimes it would be a great day, but when the shitty leaders come it becomes so toxic and you get attacked for every small mistake
The sign at del taco says they start at $15
Mcdonalds a block away from me starts at $15.
@Sebastian Posey....Others have mentioned there are fast food restaurants that pay $15/hr. The difference in pay is likely a local thing where some cities/states have minimum hourly pay laws. At $13/hr, it sounds like your area doesn't have such a law. The flip side that works in your favor is that you likely live in an area with a lower cost of living (i.e. each dollar goes farther than someone who lives in say Los Angeles, Honolulu, New York, etc)
@@andrewcano3446 the question is how long do said "shitty" leaders stay?
my single favorite Chick-fil-A feature that I am 99% sure no other fast food restaurant does is the ketchup packets. peel to dip, tear to squeeze? GENIUS.
Wendy's did that briefly a few years ago. I loved those, wish they would come back.
They’re nice and polite to customers.
The food looks like how it does in the pictures.
The employees are treated and paid well.
The food isn’t frozen and is hand made.
They don’t mess up your order.
The environment is positive.
Sometimes they throw in free food.
I like this place.
My parent's car broke down on the highway. A passing chickfila manager picked them up, drove them to the nearest restaurant and served them free food while they waited for a tow. It's a literal nonsensical level of kindness.
They are charitable, which is insanely nice. Wish more people were altruistic like that.
@@creepergamerkid8031 It's just a shame that they continued to donate to groups that opposed LGBTQ+ rights for years. Altruistic I don't think
@Moody Fuck Ong bro
My local Chick-fil-a does so much business that the police are out there every day doing traffic control during the lunch rush.
they probably get a food kickback every dayq
Mine just had to construct a double drive through because the massive line of cars was blocking the applebees down the road
Good problems
Just about have to. I've seen lines for Chick-Fil-A leak out into the roads. Not because they take forever (good chance the people in the back of those lines will place their order in roughly 10 minutes), but just the amount of people going is insane.
The police have no business being traffic control for a private business. Just like police acting as security for Walmart. I have seen that before. Billion dollar businesses can afford to hire their own security and traffic control.
I went to Chick-fil-A for the first time recently. It was on a holiday, and when I got there, there was at least 50 cars in their two drive through lanes. To my absolute surprise I had placed my order and received my food in about 5 minutes!! I cannot get that kind of service at any other fast food location, even on a slow day. They had two people with tablets walking to every car in line and taking their order. They were also the most friendly and caring people at a fast food joint I've ever met. When I got to the window to pick up the food, my fiancé realized we forgot in item. I simply told them, and literally45 seconds later I had the extra item. Not only that, but to keep things moving for everyone else, they didn't want me to pay for it. I was completely blindsided by that kind of customer service.
Things like this is why they are such a successful business.
When I worked at Dominoes, we had a meeting between all the store managers and some corporate big wig.
One of the questions the Corporate Guy asked something along the lines of how we can improve our sales, and even mentioned how Chick-fil-A was very successful, and wanted to know what they do they Dominoes doesn't.
People started raising their hands and giving feedback/suggestions and all the Corporate Drone did after each one was wave his finger and say, "Dominos Policy is such and such, we are not changing that."
Another thing is how even though they have longer lines at the drive-through, it's still just as fast or faster than any other fast food restaurant. I'm guessing it's because of the smaller menu, better employees, no understaffing, and employees taking order outside in addition to the drive-through speaker.
yep, it certainly explains why the line around my local chick-fil-a goes around three times and it still works.
Basically chick fi la does the polar opposite of whatever Taco Bell is doing
The Chick-Fil-A's around here can have a line of cars out to the parking lot and nearly into the street and still get your order and food in 5 to 7 minutes from arrival. The Wendy's across the street can take two to three times as long with only 5 cars in line.
@@jackamelar1455 Yeah, it's crazy. I can typically type out and send two emails while waiting on my food anywhere else, but not at Chick-Fil-A.

During a snowstorm in a city they had a restaurant in, there were drivers stranded on a motorway stuck in their vehicles. The manager of that store asked if anyone could get to work that day, they would be paid but the store would not be open for business.
They spent the time making sandwiches they then walked out to those that were stranded to make sure they had something to eat.

I'm not an American so my family and I had Chick-fil-A yesterday for the first time during a visit to the US. My wife had a grilled chicken sandwich and thought it was pretty bland, but nobody had explained to us that she could pick which sauce to put in it. My eldest son and I had filets and we loved them, very tasty. My youngest is vegetarian so he was disappointed to see there was no salad on the menu that did not include chicken. The young lady working at the cash was not very friendly or helpful but the one walking around the dining room was incredibly nice. Not sure if we'll go back though. Half the family was disappointed.
