I saw Ingrid together with Lauren Jenkins at the airport in Nashville in 2015. They where playing at a cafe, a bit hungover, mostly covers but they had some own material to play. Me and my friends almost missed our flight listening, and we’ve followed them since then. All the best from Sweden.

Subscribed! Love this song so much. One of my favorite things about music is talking about the meaning of songs and the magical elements that make it unique. The first time I heard this song on SiriusXM “The Highway” I went on Apple Music and downloaded it. Great tune and I loved the way you broke it down! Awesome..

This is why I fell in love with Country music. Well-crafted, it reaches right in, grabs your heart and squeezes until it hurts too much.

Never heard of Ingrid before this video, and this isn't my usual genre, but....
    wow.
I'm blown away by the deconstructed honesty of her lyrics, her voice, and her performance.
I listen to, and play a lot of rock, metal, blues, alternative, and older country -- with that, her lyrical storytelling reminds me of a couple of not-so-mainstream bands: Gaslight Anthem (Springsteen-esque storytellers) and Gang of Youths (intelligent, poetic storytellers -- your eyes will "sweat").
The honesty and heartfelt nature of her vocal performance reminds me in a way of Teddy Swims. Vocally, they are quite different, but she and he both give me the sense that they are singing their songs from a place of sincerity and vulnerability that brings a tear to my eye, and a smile to my face, as they share their truth through music.
Thank you for making this video.

The Ryman is a really old church that became a music venue. The pews are really beautiful old wood, which makes the whole place resonate sound like a violin. Seriously, you feel the music no matter who is playing. Ingrid’s song is a wonderful example of this!

I really enjoy how you do these, you look at a song for what it is in its full essence. Not just the chords, rhythm, melody, and musical elements. You look at the meaning of the lyrics, the emotion put in, atmosphere of the room. Fully encapsulates a song and what it represents

Another great choice! This was her 1st #1 Country song. By the way, I wouldn't worry about not having written a song yet yourself; that isn't what you do. What you do- explaining all of this in understandable and usable ways- is not something most people who play it and know it can do. You are able to do something unique. If you never write your own music that's no problem. I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. Keep doing what you do so well!

That gave me so much hope because I’m not the only one like that! I have a degree from ACM in guitar performance and we took songwriting 1&2 but even the songs I wrote I wouldn’t consider them MY songs. They all had parameters. One thing I hate about most new radio friendly songs is what you got caught up on around 8 minutes in. You typically get a full 1st verse, then chorus. The 2nd verse is only half the length of the 1st, then a 2nd chorus. Some sort of short bridge, but then you get a 3rd and sometimes 4th chorus to end. Almost no mainstream song has a full length 2nd verse or a 3rd verse. I hate that. At least in the better songs like this one, they change the lyrics a bit in the chorus.

I have song lyrics written, and need a real musician to help me develop the rest. My guitar playing and music theory knowledge is limiting my ability to finish the song.
If you are interested in using it as a teaching tool, perhaps we could collaborate. It would be very interesting to see a musician take a fairly polished set of lyrics and write a song to it, and also see how the music dictates changes in the lyrics.

dude, start writing songs. its funny - I wrote songs from day 1 of playing at age 14, with no understanding of theory, the first 50 songs were just power chords, like little blink 182 songs. a person like u, with all ur knowledge, expertise and talent, it jus seems silly, but I get it - you have a mental block, a restriction or fear placed on yourself about failing perhaps, jus write a few songs that are shit, they will get better with time. accept that they dont have to be perfect and get into the groove of writing songs.

    • @Guitargate

@@Guitargate oh nice, you replied. I just got home from walking my dog and I was thinking about you and I was like 'I should've given him the bet advice iv heard re song writing or doing anything creative.
Here it is: Place restrictions on yourself, make it a game.
      Example:
      Restriction 1: Time Limit - eg. U have 1 hour to write a song/demo
Restriction 2: It will be ___ genre eg. an early 2000s indie song like The Strokes or a country western song or whatever u like
Restriction 3: The chorus will use the classic chord progression 1-5-6-4 OR the Andalusian cadence OR whatever u like
The restrictions are your choosing, tho the time limit is essential, coz it takes all the pressure off. Oh my song isnt an amazing hit #1 song? No shit, I wrote everything in 1 fucken hour.
Play this game, you can't lose.
Hope this helps man, love your videos, I learn so much.
