That bus came from DeCanp Bus lines of New Jersey, I used to ride that particular bus on the 88 as a kid going to New York City weekly, with my parents, wow the memories

Nice! There's a decent chance I road this very bus. I miss those 1980s MC-9s.

DeCamp Bus lines from Montclair NJ. Those were commuter busses that ran from New Jersey to Port Authority bus terminal in NYC everyday

We grew up on a farm in North Central Indiana.
Never rode a bus in my life 😉
    Hopefully I never have to.
But I love that these are being preserved.

Most of the time me and my family rode together on NJ transit bus 551 to Philadelphia Greyhound station at 10th and Filbert streets and back to Atlantic City Municipal bus station at Arctic and Arkansas Avenues and the 2nd bus station at Atlantic and Michigan Avenues and 553 to Hamilton Mall and back to Atlantic city before they retire those MCI MC9A and MC9B Commuter Coaches I miss my childhood in the 90s and the 2000's

Greyhound ended up with one of these transit front end MC9's in the early 90's, not sure how or why, but they did. It was bus # 5232.

That fan belt is notorious for breaking on the MC9 and 8s as well I used to keep about 3 extras on board for when it happened. Very easy to replace tho.

Like what’s already been said that is an ex DeCamp MCI MC 9A. It’s a commuter Transit coach and they’re not called a city coach or bus, as they run the suburbs and county sides too making route connections. DeCamp is now under contract as an operator running routes for New Jersey Transit these days.

Sadly DeCamp ended all commuter operations effective April 2023.
"After 153 years of ferrying commuters from Montclair to Manhattan, DeCamp bus lines will cease all commuter service effective April 7, said Jonathan DeCamp, the company's chief operating officer.
The oldest private bus company in the state, DeCamp will continue to operate charter and shuttle buses, including service to Atlantic City, he said."

I picked up a brand new 1983 in Pembina December 22nd 1982. There was a ton of those NJ transit buses sitting outside the plant. The guy there told me they could get 10 coaches on the assembly line at one time, nine of them were being built for NJ transit. You have to watch those belts and tensioner air pressure real close. The older buses with the 6v and 8v 71’s the pulleys were 1 to 1, on the 6v & 8v 92’s they overdrove the miter box. We would check the rpm at the miter box pulley should be either max no load of engine or on the 92’s a couple hundred rpm over

Im looking for an ex Red and Tan MC9...either model, the 83 or 87...I would like it with seats still...damn. I should have bought one when they retired them but I was in the military at the time...I did save two Romanian buses...but I first drove the MC9..and its was an easy bus to drive...one could say it was a Leisure Line-er...(ok, this is De Camp but I couldnt help it..when bus and dad humor colide!)

8V92 would be most unusual on a commuter bus, almost certainly a 6V92. 🙂
