You might be right.... Do you know anything about my bus? I think I can see a slight 246, or 248 number on the side where a vinyl sticker was... I'd like to know the history about the bus, if you happen to have any info on it...
Himmelberger Bus AHHH! Haha! I’ve been watching YOUR VIDEOS! Good to hear from you! This video was taken from two different videos,.... the one where the hi-idle is off, is because I had just stopped driving it for a minute or two, to take a video before I parked it. I had 120 PSI on the gauge due to it being driven, and I was parking it. It not recommended to drive with the high idle on... only to air it up according to the manual. If your sitting at a traffic light and it comes on, it can cause the truck to move forward in traffic. If you are driving, and it needs to come on because your air is too low, you’ve got a bad leak somewhere and are in danger of losing your air brakes and should park it. My air has been running between 110-120, so I don’t use it. The habit came from driving ambulances that used hi idle to power all the strobe lights when the truck was parked. They had hydraulic brakes, and hi idle just was used to keep the batteries charged. I really would like to talk to you more here at my email! MonsterMidi@aol.com ! It will be great to hear from you and your experiences!
I was just browsing for fresh videos, happened on yours, glad you're following me as well :-) On my MC9 the fast Idle only works while the emergency brake is engaged, so it should never come on during normal driving. I've been told by all the old guys in the forums and my own reading that high idle is important. It keeps RPM up around 1000, which in turn keeps the engine temp / combustion temp up. I'm told the danger is unburnt diesel washing the cylinder walls and possibly creating a varnish, combined with low oil pressure can cause damage.
Manual transmission coaches are so much fun to drive. What a beauty.

Fast Idle for use when A/C is on, without the air conditioning running it is not needed.
