  • In this video, I go through the most common hand signals used in the game of lawn bowls. They vary a little from country to country, but these are the ones I have seen used in my part of the world.

Thanks. Nice & Clear. Just started bowling in July, and was put straight into the vets team! So your videos are really useful.

Thank you Alec for these excellent coaching sessions. I have watched each one with interest and enjoyment. You are an asset to this sport. Our introduction to bowls began last Tuesday evening. We enjoyed every minute. The two hours went so fast. Felt like a fish out of water. We can now put your coaching in to practice for further enjoyment. Thank you very much. Stay safe and well. Best rgds, Jon & Ang.

Hi Alec, my wife and I have had a couple of taster sessions at our local outdoor and indoor Bowls Clubs which have been very enjoyable. Your videos are very informative and you put the info over in a very easy manner which is very understandable. Thank you and best regards, Pete & Katie.

Hi, I think it would be great opportunity to mention regarding some ot the bad antics creeping into the game example :- running up the green after your bowl and not being behind the head when it finishes in the head, walking up the green half way and not being back behind the matt when your bowls finishes in the head, both unnecessary and annoying and often gamesmanship to annoy their opponent, the do's and don'ts are worth a mention, but all the vid's are just full of helpful information for bowlers of all levels, Magical. I agree Robin, it appears to be happening more and more and there is no reason to do it. I think some may be gamesmanship, some players getting carried away with the excitement of a close game, but most are players not knowing the rules. It happens at top level even more. I think umpires should remind players of the rules, but they seem to ignore it.

Please can you explain the role of each bowler, thanks. I particularly need to understand the role of number 2 😊

Hi Again Angle, no 2 is my favourite position. See answer above. :)

What is the hand signal to ask the marker who is winning/shot wood. Thx

I just hold up my hand indicating with a finger up and down movements, that seems to do the trick. Or if you think it is more than one shot, holding up two to three fingers, again, that seems to be all you need to do.

Place three jacks on the green, short, medium and long, bowl one bowl to each jack in turn, the last bowl to the jack which is hardest for you. Changing weight often like that helps you concentrate more which should help. Vary backswing with each length, or vary step you take, depending on distance. I must do a vid on this. :)
