  • In this video I will be demonstrating how to tie an FG knot! The FG knot has been proven time and time again to be the strongest line to leader (braid to fluorocarbon / braid to monofilament) knot out there. It's "knot easy", but it is certainly worthwhile to learn!

    I did the same break test with gloves on the Alberto knot and the Albright knot and those knot broke with with 10 ish very hard pulls but to be fair it was only a population of one knot with each break test. They are easy to tie but with practice this FG knot method is easy

    • @dtffishingmi
      @dtffishingmi  Před 2 měsíci

      The FG is still the only knot I’ve never broken - it just seems to get tighter and stronger! To be fair though, I’ve used the Alberto hundreds of times and have only broken on snags once or twice, and it was probably because I tied a Double SDJ knot to my lure. I still use the Alberto for fluorocarbon 10lb and under

      @dtffishingmi  Před 2 měsíci

      Glad I could help 👍12lb FC is about as light as I go with the FG - and it's not easy! For anything lighter than that, I typically tie the Alberto, even with 2 lb FC and 4 lb braid. Anyone who ties the FG with those lines is a maniac. :)

    • @dtffishingmi
      @dtffishingmi  Před 20 dny

      @@PabloSuaDel the FG and Alberto knots are both viable in that situation - the FG will be the stronger of the 2 knots, but the Alberto is still a solid knot. Depending on the size of your guides and whether or not you need the knot to come through them should be considered. With leader that heavy, I’d go with the FG knot (16 wraps) if you need it to come through the guides. If you don’t need it to come through the guides, the Alberto knot (7 wraps) is still a great choice 👍

    What about lubricating (spit) the knot before cinching it down? And how about for the Alberto knot ? I watched your video for that one too, and you didn’t wet that knot either before cinching it down? Thanks for “knot easy” series!!!!

    • @dtffishingmi
      @dtffishingmi  Před 2 dny

      Lubrication in this case would be counterproductive - it’s used to reduce friction and the buildup of heat, which can weaken line coatings. With the FG, we are trying to get the braid to grab the leader and dig into that outer layer. Lubricating prior might slow this process down by preventing the braid from grabbing hold due to reduced friction and heat buildup. Thanks for watching! 🤘

      I tie it with leader >= 12 lb. test. As long as you can get the braid to bite down properly into the leader. As you get into the heavier braids, you may have to reduce the number of wraps in order to cinch it properly.

      They make a tool called the Knot Assist 2.0 that aids in tying the FG knot - it's easier when it comes to dexterity, but it's equally complicated regarding the steps involved. There are also a couple of other FG knot methods that require less dexterity, but are more time-consuming. If you're looking for a strong braid-to-leader knot that doesn't require as much dexterity, I like the Alberto knot. I have a tutorial for that one as well. Let me know if you're able to tie that one after some practice, and I'll try to figure something else out if you're having trouble.

      Just looked it up for the first time! Functionally, it's similar to the Uni-to-Uni knot, but it's a Uni-to-Overhand knot instead. Simple to tie, but I question the breaking strength since it employs an overhand knot to secure the leader. The Uni-to-Uni knot is perhaps easier to tie, less wasteful of leader material, and my bet is that it would also be stronger. Just a theory based on my knowledge of similar knots though! I try my best to avoid overhand knots.
