My name is Jake - welcome to the channel! I upload fishing adventures, fishing tips/tricks/tutorials, fly & jig tying tips/tutorials, fishing equipment reviews, and more fishing content! I live in Michigan, primarily fishing the Great Lakes and the many other incredible fisheries the state has to offer. My aim is to be the most versatile angler that I can be, and to make a positive impact on the fishing community and industry before my time is done. I started late in life, but MASTERY is the goal. I am ALWAYS down to fish, and I'm here to share my passion with others!
That Time the Whopper Plopper 130 got SLURPED! (Pond MONSTERS)
I prefer to fish in big water, but when I have to stay close to home, I love to fish the local ponds! In early summer, the topwater bite is on fire. Post-spawn largies, smallies, and northern pike CRUSH the Whopper Plopper for me every year!

How to Attach Level Line to a Tenkara Rod! (STRONGER Connection)

In this video, I will be demonstrating how to secure your level line to the lilian of your Tenkara rod! the Fish-n-fool knot yes is a great braid line knot but i still prefer the Palomar knot for Mono
For mono, I highly recommend the San Diego Jam Knot (line > 12 lb.), and the Double San Diego Jam Knot (line <= 12 lb.) - I think I used the Palomar for just about everything when I first started fishing, but there are stronger knots out there for each line type that are equally easy/quick to tie 🤘
What 6sense rod would you recommend for all species fishing nothing serious
Hmm it really depends - what species are in the waters near you?
Very well done, easy to follow and made it very simple. You should do more videos, great teacher
Thank you for the kind words 🙏I'll keep doing my best!
Great finish to the knot; I will try that. Also, what kind of gloves are those?
Thank you 🙏 - the gloves are Fish Monkey brand - they are the “Stubby” model in the freshwater category. Great quality
@@dtffishingmi Thanks!
You need to tell what lb line you are using. Doesn’t work on light line
Good point! I use the FG knot with fluoro leader > 12 lb. --- For leader 12 lb. and under, I use the Alberto knot.
I've been using this knot as my staple dropshot knot for years. Great knot and easy to tie in a pinch. It's tricky to put those smaller dropshot hooks anywhere near your mouth and I hesitate to do so, so sometimes I just cinch the knot as quickly as I can...fingers crossed it doesn't unwind in the process. That's probably the biggest challenge of this particular knot, having it unwind on you when cinching...the hook near the mouth can be a roll of the dice lol.
Many here in the comments have suggested placing the hook on one of the lines guides of your rod, or on a zipper, or any similar stationary object while cinching. Much safer than my hillbilly-ish way of doing things 🤷♂
@@dtffishingmi Yeah that makes sense I guess, but good luck getting the hook to stay in place on hook keepers, etc...still seems that you'd need a 3rd arm to make that work properly. I've tied it up enough to maintain control with just my fingers but every now and again the hook will unwind itself. I'll also say that this isn't the *only* knot where the hook may end up in someone's mouth in one way or another to cinch things off lol
Great video
Thank you 🙏
Hey man! Great video. I’m looking at putting about 75 yards on the exact same reel. How much do you think you need?
I used the 75 yard spool of 20 lb test and it was about exactly the right amount. If you’re using line of a lower diameter, you may need more, or you could use some 6lb mono as backing to take up space. Make sure to only fill the spool up about 75% of the way so that the line exits the reel through to center of the line guide and doesn’t rub against it, and you’ll be all set 👌
@@dtffishingmi appricate the tips!! I used about 20 yards of old 4 lbs test and I’m now going to put the brand new 75 yards of 4 lbs test on it and see how that looks. 13 recommend 125 yards of 4 lbs but that seemed excessive
@@kalebcantrell7468 as long as you don’t under-spool or over-spool to the point that it rubs on the line guide, it’ll work out just fine. There’s room for a little error. I’m not sure what body of water you’re fishing, but unless you’re dropping baits down 80+ feet, the reel holds plenty of line even at the recommended 75% capacity
@@dtffishingmi we fish like 30 feet tops up here in MN
@@kalebcantrell7468 Oh yeah, 200+ ft of line is plenty - never have to worry about getting spooled
💞Wow🤍🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🤍
Been a palomar and improved clinch knot my whole life, had some slip (could be skill issue or not tied properly) Will be trying this for flurocarbon applications. Thank you!

Superb job of illustration and explanation. There is no better how-to regarding this knot anywhere on the internet. You've earned and deserve all the support you can muster.
Thank you very much for the kind words! I’ll keep giving it my best 🤘
Does this know work on Braid, Fluorocarbon and Mono?
Good with fluoro and mono - not recommended for braid. The Fish-N-Fool knot and Double Uni knot are great for braid 👍
Thank you
thank you
What’s a rod identical to that but has the larger guides to have those bigger leaders?
Good question! I would assume the 6th Sense rods designed for larger swimbaits would have larger guides, but I am not sure. I just reached out to them - I will let you know when I get an answer :)
6th Sense support told me that the "Broomstick" has slightly larger (standard-sized) guides for heavier line - it's a rod designed for big swimbaits. It does not come with the split-grip handle, however.
If this knot is correct then I’d say this was the top video I have seen for a knot explanation and especially this complicated knot. You have a new subscriber
Thank you for the kind words 🙏

Great video!! New subscriber too...

If you are struggling with the synching part. Grab the line and the single line tail and since down first. Then loope you finger into the loop and synch up. Then grab the line and do an additional synch. Your welcome.
☝️ This is good advice.
why dont you just drag the fish onto the bank instead of using the net?
It's better for the fish if I use the net - grass isn't too harsh for a bass, so I will flip them sometimes as long as I know I can do it relatively gently. In the case of the first fish here - the hooks can get caught up in the weeds and cause me to lose the fish if I try to drag her through, so I'll use the net just to be safe. You'll notice she was barely hooked once netted.
@@dtffishingmi never thought of it that way, thx for the input
@@titusrupert1314 Losing a big fish in the weeds SUCKS
What lb line do you use?
Only using 12 lb here because that’s what I had spooled on, but tied the plopper on with a double San Diego jam knot so I wouldn’t launch it into space! 15-17 lb. would be a better choice for a 1 oz. + lure.
@@dtffishingmi Do you think 10 lb braid would be fine with it?
@@voidgaming3959 yeah, I'm sure it'll be ok as long as you're not casting it as hard as you possibly can, or fishing around rocks/submerged trees. 10lb braid is more than enough for bass, it's just the weight of the lure on the cast and the abrasion you'll need to watch out for. I recommend you tie it on with a Fish-N-Fool knot or double uni knot if tying the braid directly to the lure. I have tutorials for both knots in my "Knot Easy" playlist 👍
@@dtffishingmi okay thank you
@@voidgaming3959 No problem! Either of those two knots should prevent you from launching a $17 lure 300 feet from shore. If you're using the 90 or 110 size whopper plopper, nothing to worry about. The 130 is a bit heavier. One of mine from 2 years ago is probably still flying over Lake St. Clair. I launched it so far I never saw it land lol
Thank you! I watched another video and I kept shittin the bed... Got it first try watching yours!
No more beds shall be shat! 🙌
They were munching that thing for sure. 0 clickbait talking about pond monsters as well!
There are even bigger ones too, it’s a magical pond! I also saw a 34 inch pike get caught in there, but have yet to catch one there myself. I once caught a 5 lb bass with a juvenile pike sticking out of his throat, so I know there are at least a couple breeding in there!
Looks cool man was just wondering do u know if feathered hooks would work for bait fishing power bait or is it better to use then for only lures and spinners?
Typically, feathered hooks are used to add a life-like movement to the presentation. Without movement, it just looks like feathers and probably would only decrease the effectiveness of a stationary bait in the water. I suppose if you’re trolling baits for blue cats or something like that, it could help to catch their attention and entice a strike. Those feathered hooks might be gross and unusable after a single use though
Well done! Good explanation and demonstration.
Thank you 🙏
this tying method is very difficult to do with 20lb trace
It might be the braided line making it difficult. What lb test are you using for main line?
Nice pond beasts!
Yessir! There’s bigger ones in there too. It’s a magical pond
very helpful and so easy Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Been tying my DS like this for a year. I will never go back to the Palomar knot method.

Nice work. I would find something on the boat or wherever you are to secure the hook to though ... excellent presentation ... thanks ... Tight Lines !
There are definitely safer ways that should have been mentioned in the video. I've just been doing it like hillbilly for too long now 🤷♂ Thanks for watching!
Wow!…I never saw this method. I will definitely give it try. Thanks for sharing! 👍😎👍
Thanks for watching 🤘
Can you put use a more colorful line and bigger line on your next video? 😊
It’s tough with the FG knot, because the braid has to bite down into the fluoro. I have 200 lb high visibility braid, but I don’t believe it would be humanly possible to pull hard enough to force line that thick to bite into some fluorocarbon. Might have to use my car to cinch it down at that point 🙂
Really? Hold the hook in your lips ??? Don't think so, thanks anyway. Take care and keep your emergency medical paid up.
Take care 👍
I've used this knot and love this knot but I never put any part of any hook in my mouth. I hook it on something in the boat or hang my pliers on the hook. Great demonstration. Thanks.
