Good moves, reading the waves ahead and turning around. Too many boaters don't figure it out until they've been smacked around badly.
I have to agree that reading the conditions and heading back in is a win. A win for common sense.
Im amazed at how good Americans of all ages are such good swimmers, not one life jacket in sight.
The girls of the Blue top legend really know how to make piloting look easy, even when it ain't. And to be gorgeous as well...wow.
I think a u-turn shows good judgement, and shouldn't count as a loss necessarily.
I don't think those captains that recognised the potential dangers, and called it a day before they got into trouble, should be judged as a loss.
Loss for the boat, win for the wise captains!

The blue top legends are damn good boat captains. Those ladies always bring it, and they do it smartly and confidently. 👍👍👍
I don't know about those losses. Turning around before they got in trouble shows a rare level of intelligence. Nobody sank their boat. Nobody had to be rescued. The Coast Guard didn't have to be called out and nobodies insurance company had to get involved. These are all wins in my book.
Boat may lose but wise captain wins every time!

I always chuckle because the blue top girls are always jabbering nonstop. Just funny to watch.

They make it look so easy cuz if you can go out and do it in a 13' you sure can't go out and do it in a 17'. And they have been doing it a long time. I know exactly what their boat can handle, and they know how to handle it.
That first boat made it out of the inlet before turning around. Not only that they kept their bow rider dry. Definitely a win. If all your doing is going out the inlet to check it and then turn around you shouldn’t get dinged.
I think you need to reevaluate the U-turn =loss rule. To me, the boaters won by not endangering themselves. I think if you take a hit, get air or similar, then turn around it should be a loss. Just my opinion of course
I think a captain gets some consolation points if they are smart enough to recognize they are in trouble and turn around before trouble actually happens. It is still a pretty big loss for a captain to actually take a boat out there on a day like this in the first place given what the forecast was surely calling for.
I think I would have made the decision a bit sooner, maybe avoid turning around in breaking waves.

Those last two handled the u-turns very well! Discretion being the better part of valor I don’t think those should have counted as a loss! Just saying…

It’s actually a 4:0 loss if you penalize the camera crew for not making the entire episode about the BTL……in 8k.

An over powered little boat can be the best thing in less then ideal conditions
Round 1 should go to the boats for deciding it isn't the right day to have his family in those conditions. HOWEVER, he already lost because there's a small child at the helm seats with no life jacket/PFD.

Number one should be a default loss since they have a kid without a life-jacket in the boat.
The boats should win because the owners had the sense to turn around.

linking a loss to a smart move aint productive, those young heads did well.
You can give that last boat the loss but they would have suffered a much bigger loss had they not smartly turned around!

A turn around is a win for common sense and safety, but the win goes to the inlet for causing the turn around.

What makes you think that they are legends. Just doing what any half competent person would And no life jackets ! Mind you, they are being paid to advertise, so this site has to include them
No matter what you call, BG, there are whiners - rules are rules, if you turn around, automatic loss. If you have a kid in the bow with no PFD, auto loss, etc.
Should be third & fourth round wins for common sense!

I think the first boat that turned around should lose because of the small child with no life jacket.
I'm constantly amazed at the numbers of young children out on boats in rough (potentially fatal) conditions without life jackets. Shame on the parents. I suppose they let them ride in cars without seat belts too. Utter lunacy.
