  • 3 PEOPLE OVERBOARD SWALLOWED BY WAVES! | HAULOVER INLET BOATS | BOCA INLET
    Raging waves at Boca Inlet this weekend turned this into a dangerous situation. 3 people on 2 jetskis rolled over and could not re mount. They were battered and taking waves over head for several minutes before any help could arrive.
    It was a rough weekend for south florida boats. Huge waves at several inlets including Haulover Inlet, Boca Inlet and Jupiter Inlet. We cover all 3 on the Wavy Boats Network and more videos from this weekend are yet to come out. Stay tuned and make sure to check out ‪@RoughInlets‬ for our coverage of Jupiter Inlet and more Haulover Boats. Don't miss out!

    Scary situation. Why do you guys think the guy on the Jetski didn't help initially? 😳

    • @daphnelattimer9952
      @daphnelattimer9952 Před 3 lety +108

      I think he thought there was someone submerged under or around the first jet ski and focused on that. He then maneuvered around the 3 to make sure they were at least ok. The conditions were too rough to help initially, but he went for it when he saw the male and female were struggling. He probably assumed help was already called in from the shore. The good thing is...he helped. The best thing is all are alive and well.

    I am the guy on the green skii. I was out jumping & riding waves as I always do & understand the conditions well. I had noticed these guys in trouble from down the beach & went over to help.
    If u notice at the beginning of vid (within first 45 seconds) , I go over to check in on them.. i was watching the situation the entire time expecting them to get back on as they were all hanging on & had life jackets on.. to be out in those conditions you should be able to pull yourself up. There were 2 skis. 2 ppl on one & 1 on 1. One person fell off & the others went to help & they were flipped off by the surf & the other man trying to board the skii. They were all hanging onto the skii with life jackets on & they at first told me they were ok so I assumed someone would get back on the skii as the man was half way up. They wanted me to go back & keep their skii from smashing into the rocks .. I did not want to leave them but they insisted so I went to try and keep their skii from smashing into the rocks as I assumed they were going to get back on. Once I realized that they could not get back on & became completely separated from the skii I went back to get them, the conditions were rough & They were now panicking & I could not have them flip my skii as we would all be screwed. Knowing that they were panicking & just failed to get back on 2 different skis, i knew i had to be extremely careful trying to get them on mine without flipping me. These ppl were not in good physical condition so it was very difficult to get them on my skii without flipping in the waves. If you notice they never fully got on my ski & I had to literally pull them out of the water so they could get some leverage. Thankfully i am in great physical condition. I also had to drive extremely slow & careful as they were hanging off the back so I didn’t lose them. By this point they were in a full on panic. I managed to get the first two into the inlet & dropped them off on a random pontoon boat that was safe & went to look for the other man as they told me he had very weak legs & could not get back on the skii which is why he never got back on in the first place. They should not have been out there by any means to begin with. Thankfully by the time I got them to safety & back out there, the life guards got to the 3rd man. I am very thankful they at least all had life jackets on as it saved their lives. The average person doesn’t realize how difficult it can be to get a jet skii in position in conditions like that to make it as easy as possible for someone to get on , let alone when they are no help & can’t pull themselves up, without getting flipped. All 3 ppl turned out ok & even the jet skis both made it out ok. I had to be very careful & make sure I could help them so I didn’t end up in the same situation & making it far worse. Hope that clarifies a bit.

The waves would be making it extremely hard to keep afloat even with life jackets and also the spray from the water makes it hard to breathe. Combine that with the fact that he looked like a larger gentleman with no fitness and basically he was hanging of for dear life.

I have watched dozens of these inlet videos and have seen hundreds of idiots in boats and jet skis risk their lives in conditions way beyond their abilities and apparently comprehension. Don't the marine authorities in Boca and Lauderdale and Miami know this also? Rather than have officers patrolling quiet waterways, one powered lifeboat and two rescue personnel stationed on the adjacent beach would have had the situation controlled within 2-3 minutes. And, why did the camera operator wait 5 minutes to call rescue---should have been immediate. Big thanks to the civilian jet ski driver who got the 2 aboard and safe.

    I grew up in the water at the beach and at the local lakes, swimming, rowing, sailing, snorkeling etc. I'm pretty comfortable in rough surf, but have never been in anything like that. That being said, with a proper PFD, I don't think I would have been worried about drowning, but I might have been concerned about getting swept out in those conditions and not being found. For folks who don' t recognize what's going on with the water itself, this is a relatively narrow inlet into a bay and on an outgoing tide(like what they had here), there is a powerful current moving out through the inlet. There was an onshore wind (wind blowing FROM the water TOWARD the land) opposing the outflow, thus the extremely rough conditions. The current isn't pulling anyone DOWN, just OUT, so the folks in the water didn't have to worry about being "sucked" under, but getting separated from the boats was going to make them harder to find.
    I don't really understand why the fellow on the jetski didn't get one of the folks in the water up on his jetski and transport him/her to the other jetski and let them drive it in and then get one of the others up on his jetski and transfer him to the other one and so on. They could probably have made their way back in slowly if they had just gotten back on the boats.
