The oils on your skin can spread it more so wash your body with dawn dish soap to cut through the oils. That's what we used to do when I was working in forests every day. And wash clothes and sheets well. Calamine lotion helps too!
Yup it’s important to avoid touching it as much as possible to not spread it more too. I had the luck of getting some head to toes. It wasn’t a fun ER visit lol
TO ANYONE THAT SEES THIS, PLEASES LIKE SO THAT THEY SEE THE COMMENT!!! THEY NEED THIS INFO!!! YOU GUYS!!! it’s spreading because the oil from the poison sumac is likely in your bedding!! You need to get rid of the oils that are in your bedding and that are still on your skin! Wash your sheets in really hot water to get rid of all the oil and then use blue dawn several times in the shower and strip your skin of all of the oils and you will get better!! I’ve posted this several times but, I don’t think you’ve seen this yet. I hope that people will like this so that it will move to the top and hopefully get seen!
Was gonna say the same thing! Went a whole summer thinking I had some wild autoimmune disease and it was just the oils from poison ivy and sumac in the bed and the car lol
@@dannydyerschocolatehumuncl2418 poison sumac causes rash from plant oils on the skin so if it gets on your bed sheets then it probably could cause more rash even if you wash your body of the oils
@@dannydyerschocolatehumuncl2418 that's quite literally how rashes spread, we lose skin cells when we touch anything when any part of us so imagine sleeping in your bed rolling around in the thing that's giving you a rash then touching everything in your house and not knowing why you keep getting a rash
It could be spreading because the oils are on your jackets/scarfs/pillowcase etc. especially his neck. I’d recommend washing everything you think you may have worn or laid on in the past 8 days and putting ivy block on to prevent more infection
THIS! I didn’t know I had poison ivy and I slept in my bed not realizing that the oil from the plant that was on my body had rubbed off on my sheets. I kept re exposing myself to it until a nurse practitioner told me that anything that could have the oil on it had to be thoroughly washed. I washed my shoes and everything! She also told me that the oil from your skin, even the direct oil from the rash, isn’t poisonous at all and cannot spread the rash. It’s a super common misconception that you can spread it by scratching AFTER you’ve washed the oil from the plant off.
as someone with eczema i feel for you guys. my entire body is covered in these red itchy and dry patches and it's been like that all my life. just be grateful that you only have to suffer through it for a couple of days, not the rest of your lives
@@21972012145525 i was prescribed cetamacrogrolcream with 10% vaseline to keep my skin moisturized and hormone cream for flare ups. They both help a lot, but the best advice I can give you is to not use products with harsh chemicals or perfume in it and always moisturize immediately after showering. From my experience water basically resets your skin, so if you've been super itchy in one spot, it helps to wash it with water and then put on moisturizer or a topical steroid cream. I hope this helped, also speak to a doctor if you haven't been prescribed anything yet. It might take a while to find what works for you, but once you do it's a lot more manageable :)
Use dawn dish soap(off brand works also) to wash every part of your body. It will help to get it to heal the breakout and stop the spreading caused from the break out leaking because its a degreaser so it breaks down the oils of the sumac. Youre going to have a worse reaction than normal tho because you burnt it so you inhaled the oils which then got your blood stream to help spread it threw your body rather than just contact with the rash leakage spreading
