since this is "open world" is it possible to level up and get good gear without doing any of the story elements and quests ? so can I just run around wherever whenever I want just doing events and dungeons and level up as fast as someone who follows the actual story ?

Although it scales with your level, that would be one Hella hard fight with only a basic skill. Lol
