  • My brother ‪@alabamafloats‬ and I did an overnight #camping trip on the Buffalo River in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Crazy Horse Recreation Park. They put us in at Trace Creek and we had 17 miles to get back to the outfitter. I was in my #canoe and he was in his #kayak . This was most of day 1 right before we stopped to camp.

      Awesome...and agreed! I think this was my first time on that section. My cousin said we did it once 10+ years ago, but I can't remember for sure (which is rare when it comes to paddling...lol).

    I've canoed/kayaked down many rivers in South Missouri and Arkansas many times....that rock ledge with current going under it scarred me just looking at it...I've dumped many times...sometimes at a places that looks simple....things can go wrong fast....good video

      "things can go wrong fast" - nothing more true has ever been said...lol!! As one person told me, "we're ALL in-between swims!" I've paddled the Buffalo National, Current and Jacks Fork rivers in the area you mentioned- those rivers are second to NONE!! Love the Ozarks!!! Thank you!!

      All great questions that I want to know, too! Since this 17 mile trip takes you back to their outpost and they have a 10-mile that starts at their outpost, you could conceivably go 27 miles! I'd do it in a heartbeat if they let you!! Thanks, brother!!!!

    Man it's always fun to go floating with family. I can tell it was good times except for the incident. Thank you for taking the time to explain the rock undercut in the video at 8:06. I had all 6 of my son's & my granddaughter listen to you explain how dangerous that is & now they know. I'm sorry to hear that your brother lost some of his gear. I tell my kids to tie everything down to the kayak so you don't lose it. This was a good video looking forward for part 2. I'm glad you and your brother was safe out there.

      Thank you very much, Mack! Those two trees where my pole broke is where Dave flipped. If you look closely you can see the current pushes slightly to the right into that rootball on the right. That's what broke my pole and that's what flipped him. You are absolutely right that anything you want to keep needs to be tied to the boat! Thanks for watching, Mack!!

    Oh...no....I hope your cam is ok.---2;42.
    Yes, the direction is sometimes goofy...even using GPS with a cellphone.
    as you mentioned, this part is very tricky---May I ask the reason why the current surfs toward the rock faces?---8;38.
    Wow, that's a close call.---12;12.
    Wowowow..I thought your canoe capsized---13;40.

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Před rokem +1

      Fortunately my cameras and mount were fine. Just a break in the pole which is replaceable. I did have close call with my boat! The ground slopes towards the rock face, so the water is simply following the lowest path and unfortunately it goes right into that ledge. Thank you very much!!

    What a gorgeous stretch of river! I hate to hear your brother lost gear...that hurts. I have a logistics question for you though...exactly how many kitchen sinks do you have packed into that canoe? You might be most well prepared overnight camper in existence.😂 Pete got me into mounting cameras on a ball mount so when the boom arm inevitably hits something, it has some give and just folds down. Just something to think about if you are in for a replacement. Regardless, looks like a blast! Good times!

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Před rokem

      Thank you so much, Austin! Good times, indeed!! Since it was a single overnighter my only limit was what the outfitter could get in their shuttle van...lol! As you once said, "a canoe is pick-up truck that you paddle". I live by those words! :-D I may have to go to a ball mount because the manufacturer is not currently shipping that pole. I have one more piece (of the one that broke) and after that I'll be drilling out rivets and reinstalling another mounting system. :-/

      @SouthernPaddler  Před rokem

      Yes, PFDs are ALWAYS a good idea. I do wear them at night, in colder weather and in more technical rivers, but they're a good idea anytime. I done the Coosa once. That's no joke! I did have my PFD on for that trip.
