Good video. Really appreciated the comment about the allan bolt being a separate piece that needs to loosen from the main cap. That saved me a lot of time!

Thanks for the video and hints. One caution. I believe the Penzoil sticker calling for 15W-40 is for the engine oil. I believe these transmissions call for ATF. I'm not sure so check your manuals.

Great video. Took a long search to find. Are there any parts necessary to replace? Does the filter need to be replaced or cleaned? If it is so easy just to put the tube down the oil dipstick to drain it, is it worth the work to remove the oil filter? How much extra oil is left in the transmission if you drain it from the dipstick? Pennzoil 15w-40 marine grade is no longer available. What's a good substitute? Is synthetic oil ok? I have read that synthetic oil may be too slippery for some transmission. Not sure about this one.

The filter looked fine to me but I cleaned it. They are cheap to replace like 15$. I was told by a MC mechanic to go threw the filter bc it will remove all the oil not just 70%. I don't think it will hurt it if you just go threw the dipstick and change when your supposed to. Just put in what you get out and check level. I just use 15w40 pennzoil from advance auto. Synthetic shouldn't hurt but I wouldn't recommend bc you should change it every season whether the hours stacked up or not.

Thanks very much for the helpful video. Even with your advice I am having trouble getting the cover seated again. It turns out for mine (2000 MariStar 210) that there is a small gasket/o-ring at the bottom of the filter compartment that is totally jammed down there. I don't know if it is supposed to be there or what, but it is preventing the filter from getting all the way where it should be and therefore also the cover. Before I discovered this other gasket I compounded the problem by tightening the bolt too much, and now the pieces of the cover won't come apart. I might have to take it in which would of course negate the purpose of doing it myself! Anyway, just posting this in case someone else might have this problem. Bottom line, make sure you can seat the filter and the cover down as far as it should be, and don't tighten it down too much!
