    This helped me so much. After watching dozens of videos, this is the first one that explained where the actual project and assets are hidden. At 2:57 where the video shows how to open the library by selecting "Show Package Contents", the light came on and I get it. Thanks so much and excellent video!!!

    the problem I have with fcpx is not where the files are because that is never a problem, but what I find very inconvenient is that all files that you load into fcpx are in a big bin. in the old final cut pro versions you could load a folder and the files remained there. now you have to manually put everything in keyword collections. Why not just work with folders as they are on the disk. There you put images in one folder, video files from different maps in different folders, etc. that would really be a perfect solution if that option becomes available again in fcpx.

    Thank you, Serge! I actually figured this out myself last year, but I wish you would have made this video a long time ago, because I made some major errors a couple years ago and I am unable to retrieve the original files, so I could have use this knowledge back then. Lesson learned though.

    Great thank you. What’s the best way to start a new project using an external ssd for the project and media but then to make sure when the project is complete that it’s all safely moved to another cheaper external HD just for the ability to re access the files and the project later if the client wants the edit changing

      Make a new library on the slower HDD, copt your project to that library, then consolidate your media.

    This video is a great help. Can you make a new version in which you slowly show where you're clicking when choosing storage locations. It goes so fast it's hard to retain the info. Also it would help if you highlight the cursor so we can see where it's going. Also I'm still confused as to how to create separate projects so that when i open up a new project I don't start by seeing the previous videos footage. I want to start clean and be able to also open up any previous project and have it all appear as before.

    What do u think of this process.......import all my media for a video I’m making into final cut....then when done w the video and it’s published on my CZcams channel, move the library that contains all the media to an external drive to save space. I have a 2TB mb air on order. Does this process sound efficient ? Thanks! I look forward to any feedback

    • @Serge1913
      @Serge1913  Před 3 lety +1

      I do pretty much the same thing, except, instead of moving the whole library, I just move the projects. This way, only the clips I use get moved, instead of everything

    • @GarrickGillettePhotography
      @GarrickGillettePhotography Před 3 lety

      @@Serge1913 Thank you Serge!! by just moving the projects you are still freeing up all that space on your internal hard drive?

  • @benergizer6368
    @benergizer6368 Před 2 lety

    One thing I like about the self contained option, is that when I delete a clip, FCPX deletes the original file and moves it to the trash, thus saving space.
    When you have your media in a different location, it keeps the original files, so all the clips you deleted in FCPX, are still there in the original location. Not great if you are trying to conserve hard drive space. Especially since after any project you are going to end up with a lot of unusable takes, shots out of focus, etc...

    Hi Sege, Happy New Year !!!
    A month ago I asked you "Hello Serge, could you do tutorial how to do PNG file on iPad and send it to MacBook please. As I like you got 2020 iPad 4 and want to cut out old TV screen for my videos. I did it but I can't to remember how and I can't to repeat it. Even I don't remember which app I used for that. Adobe Sketch or Adobe Fresco. My idea is to cut out hole on old TV screen and put inside VHS shape video like you did in this tutorial. Use iPad 4 and Final cut on MacBook. Thanks "

    Can someone help me out? I’m trying to clear up my computer to get more storage for a current project, but then, in my storage management, I noticed that there were NINETEEN library’s for that project, each taking up generally the same amount of space, with the same general dates (off by a few days occasionally)
    I’m afraid to delete these because idk if I’ll lose my current project or if files will be considered missing mid edit… what do I do?

    Ok, I moved a library to another drive but the files are not inside the library, when I tried to find them it was only a shortcut. the original files were actually saved in the folder called "Final Cut Original Media" how can I do to have those files inside the Library? It's kind of annoying sins I deleted some libraries that I will not use anymore, but the original media is in that "Final Cut Original Media" folder instead of in each separate library.
    I have the libraries and 2 folders FC Original media, FC Proxy Media and FC Optimized media.
    WHat can I do to fix this? Thanks

    Hi Serge, thank you again for a great video. Please can you help me? I used the third method with an external hard drive, leaving the files in place. I just changed to a new SSD (from my old HDD). I copied the external drive to the new one (which included my FCP library, with 24 videos, and the media files) onto the new SSD. When I tried to use the new SSD all my files were un-linked with the red boxes. Fortunately I can still use the old HDD but I was hoping the new SSD would make things faster. Please can you tell me if there is a way to link the files for these 24 videos in the new SSD? (It is one library with 24 events, 1 event for each video.)
