Let me know if theres anything you guys do differently in your workflow and why???
That's a really good tip about the left hand keyboard short cuts. ;-)
I got a LoupeDeck and have been working to consolidate my shortcuts there so I'm just using that and the mouse.
When I'm done, I also delete the proxy and optimized media to help save even more space.
Hope you have a great trip to Norway!
Thank you for the video and for the hint with the trim start/end, we guess we should abandon the in/out pre-editing in the browser and also dump everything right away in the timeline :D
Could you make a video on sound design, maybe explaining your preset in a basic way? The only thing we are using right now is a limiter, but I guess there is so much more (like we saw here)...
Thanks for the explanation, Matti. You don't use Proxy / Optimized media? Prob. because of the M1.
I make music videos and FCPX works great for complicated projects i just use storylines and compound clips (similar to premiers "nested sequences") I used to work in Adobe for many years and after switching to FCPX i can't imagine going back i think you will like it more and more. Thank you for trim start and end shortcuts they will change my life :D
I've been using Final Cut since I was basically a fetus and I had no idea about the trim start and trim end shortcuts.... thank you for that!! Awesome vid :)
Fetus đ€Ł
Fetussss đ
Maestro of B ROLL !!! Pls say hello to me !!!
Same here actually. Defo gonna do that first thing tomorrow. Only coz itâs like 11pm where I live and Imma sleep nowđ
Pretty crazy seeing you thank someone else for a FCPX tip when youâve helped millions đđ»
I've been using Premiere Pro for 3.5 years and literally downloaded the trial version of FCP last week to give it a try after Premier crashing 3 times within 5 minutes during my last project. This could not have come at a better time! Thank you as always Matti! đ«đźâ€
Oh perfect đđ»
Matti and Pete getting back to tutorials. You love to see it.
Of course you do
đđ» đ
I started with Final Cut Pro 3 , then when with Premiere Pro, now Iâm back to Final Cut Pro and Iâm loving it, and thank you for the short cuts and to be better organizer with your library. And project.
[THANK YOU] Oh gosh, I've been using final cut x since it came out and never really learned it properly. The trim start and trim end commands are FANTASTIC! Completely changed my workflow! [/THANK YOU]
Doing keyframing for audio ducks can be done even easier if you use the range tool. Range select and then pull the audio down. It will automatically key the in and out points for you.
Literally needed this video, thank you! Youâre also the first one so far Iâve seen to explain Library and project through the eyes of a premiere user!
MATTI!! This is what im talking bout!!! FCPX workflow!! Man huge help in this one bud. Appreciate ya!
Just moving out of premier to FCP. Other tutorials were wasting my time but I couldn't skip a sec with your tutorial. Thanks Matti for the solid foundation for FCP basics video tutorial.
Awesome run through of FCP, Matti! Thanks for spreading the good word about the software đ
Thanks Matti this was quite useful!
Your tip at 7:40 ish literally is a game changer. I've been editing since I was around 6 years old and not once did I even stumble across a feature this good.
Lifetime subscriber for sure.
Wow, super duper awesome tutorial! From the tips to organize your files, to the workflows, this was by far the best Beginner Tutorial on FCP that Iâve seen yet, and Iâve watched a bunch on YT. Thank you so much!!!
Thanks so much for this vid. I loaded it in the middle of a project and I know the second half of this project will go a LOT quicker! You rock!!
You are speaking our language! Love your casual "work smarter not harder" approach! And yes, Final Cut - hard stop... that works for us! Thank you, we'll be watching more of your videos!
I'm very happy about this video for two reasons. Even if I'm not a pro like you, I found out that I almost use FCPX in the right way, then those little tips like Q-W to trim were very useful and I think they will speed up a lot my process... now I need to make a big step to find my color grading signature, but I won't rush my learning path on that! cannot wait for your next video!
Love the video and loved your workflow. So simple and efficient! Now youâre tempting me to purchase your luts!
Great stuff Matti, Ive been using FCPX for several years and know it pretty well but I always like to watch these videos for new tips and ideas for my work flow. Thanks man.
Itâs been a year since or so since I last looked up Final Cut workflow tips and this video was full of new game changing tips from start to finish. Thanks Matti!
Great to see you getting back to tutorials, this was super useful. Thanks! Also youâre getting really good at FPV đ
Big thanks for this one! đ We're just switching to FCP and this had a lots of great basic info!
I was missing so many shortcuts! Iâll implement some of these ones on my next one, thanks man đđ»
Resolve user, great to see your workflow Matti! Outside of the specific hot keys most of this applies to any editing program. Thanks Matti!
Little tip: Turn off BACKGROUND RENDER in the Settings, especially on the very powerful M1 MacBooks, then you won't have to delete the render files at the end and the library will stay small (always under 50 MB), because it just won't prerender stuff. Works on powerful computers and performance is the same if not better.
I always find it fascinating watching peoples workflows. Itâs crazy how different you operate than I do lol.
Quick tip for magnetic timeline: to stop angering your clip you can also hold (~) and drag the clip without reanker it :)
I highly suggest using Q for trimming the start, W for just cutting in between and E for trimming the end
Always giving us gold, thank you so much!
so awesome. thank you for posting this video. just getting started with editing and love your approach.
Thanks Matti! Super genuine and helpful as always.
Go Haapoja!! Keep the final cut content coming, God knows the community wants it!
This video was great! Some what short and sweet but super informative. Thanks for the workflow update/tutorial!
Nice Video! I also switched from Premiere to FCP half a year ago, and you are right, for simple edits it is really quicker. You probably know this, but you actually can add the conversion LUT before adding your clips to the timeline, without an adjustment layer. Select all the clips you want your conversion LUT on in your library, then go to the information board on the right ( with the info "i") and there you can choose Camera-LUT. This sometimes help to get a better impression of the image when doing âthe big dropâ before you cut anything away. On the other hand, this could decrease performance depending on your machine.
Also, I started to have everything in the Library (project) Container, importing all the files in there. When sharing projects with other FCP editors, I know for sure that everything is in this one file. You can still copy the raw footage out of the container to someplace else if you need to.
Great job bro! ONE TIP I'd recommend is using the Range tool on your sound to gradually ease in and out sound levels!
11:30 Option + W to insert a blank space on the magnetic timeline. Drag clips above magnetic timeline which will anchor them to the blank placeholder you created. Voila no more magnetic effect ;)
What does Option + W do? I'm on default shortcuts and doesn't seem to do anything.
I always used the [ and ] with no command button for trim start and end but I added it to q and w and I made my blade tool E
ALSO I used audio lanes a bunch and made the 0 the on off toggle for that and it helps a lot for J and L cuts :)
Great video mate, thank you for these tips!
Great video, thank you Matti!
Love the work smarter and efficient approach! New videographer and new into video editing here and using FCP. This video was extremely helpful
Super helpful Matti. Thank you. Presets are the word of the day.
The FPV skills are next level! Let's gooo!đ„đ„đ„
Thanks for the awesome shortcuts.
Brilliantly done, great energy! Concise and to the point.
The best thing about this video is that it doesn't only fit FCPX workflow, you can watch it and use things like folders structure or personalised shortcuts to any other software. I personally use DaVinci Resolve, but I do have very similar workflow in some cases. The only thing I can suggest with audio, especially music, is don't always look at the numbers, because music tracks can vary in dynamic range and loudness, so -30 dB can be good for electronic or rock music, but not necessarily for calm ambient music, lo-fi or classical stuff. Use not only your eyes, but ears too, mixing sound can be an art too :) Cheers Matti!
Dude great video. Thank you so much for putting this together đ„
As a Premiere user moving to FCP I want to say THANK YOU!!! Now my learning curve just got a lot smaller.
Thank you Matti, that was fabulous!
Awesome walkthrough man, thanks!
GREAT!!! Thanks Matti
I've never been this early. I just recently started challenging myself to make my cuts in Resolve, but I've been a FCPX user ever since I started editing.
đđ»
Why do you want to make cuts in resolve?? What benefit is that?
@@FerrisFilms77 Just a personal challenge, to see if an old dog can learn new tricks. And also to see if I can push my creativity out of my comfort zone.
Thanks for this quick and useful tutorial Matti! Still having a hard time to switch from Premiere to Final Cut and you helped a lot!
Yesss! Thanks Matti!!! đ
đđ»
Appreciate you Matti, that was super helpful!
Just getting into Fcpx, this was soooo good. Thank you Matti!
Probably the most useful video about fcp for me!
Thank you so much đ

A. lot of great little tips in this video!
Appreciate the info man thanks!
Hey Matt I'm new to final cut great job on the position tool I was having that magnet issue and now I finally learned a fix , thank you so much
Glad to find out im not the only one to do a timeline dump. Was worried . Confirmed by the best is a relief. Thank you
Great video Matti - thanks so much for sharing đđ„
Always used final cut. Never thought about making each project a library. That's going to save me a lot by not bogging down my machine a lot and I can package projects to send to clients easily as well.
I'm going to try this too. Normally I create a new Library for each year - 2020, 2021 etc... and build projects within. It's too cumbersome.
So I'll keep my yearly Libraries just for footage organization (a place to unload all footage until needed), and all projects now get their own dedicated Library.
Matti and Pete releasing tutoriais the same Day!!!!!! :DDDDD
Thank you for making this video!
you definitely sold me on Artgrid... I spend ages trying to find matching sequences on other platforms. brilliant tutorial, by the way.
Very nice, very helpful. Short, quick, concise, easy to follow easy directions. Thanks.
You re an amazing teacher!
Beautiful, thanks Mđđ»
thanks a lot more of that FCPX !!
Thanks for the video man. Starting my channel I just jumped in without knowing anything. I would spend hours pulling my hair out trying to edit. This video is gonna be a big help!!
Man Peter and Matti uploaded Tutorials in the same Day , this just made my Week đ„đ„đ„
Weâre backkkk haha
@@mattih letâs gooooooo
well⊠after years of using FCPX - you old mate, have just taught me some stuff ân things. and a new sub đđŸ
Iâve been contemplating switching from Premiere to Final Cut for the past couple weeks. I think itâs a good idea while Iâm still kind of new to producing videos.
This video may have persuaded me that the switch isnât as intimidating as I thought.
Great Video. Thank you
Genius - wish I had known this 8 years ago when I started using FCPX - thanks!
Awesome video bro keep up the great content. Nice way to explain this and keep it short and simple. Love the content God Bless
Thank you so much , very useful tutorial
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks MH!!!!
This is it.. basics are something what we all want Good to know how pro use FCP :) thanks
Believe by default its ALT- [ and ALT- ] instead of Q and W, for anyone who wants the FPX defaults. QW is a carry over from Premiere I think. CMD-B for slicing a clip.
Also useful, Alt-T for audio crossfades between clips, especially talking head cuts.
What a great video â€â€â€
That was very helpfull, thank you.
your audio preset!!!!! ahhhhh!!!! yessss!!! purchased!
Yo! Matti went hard on the intro music for this one!!!!
how did I miss this video - really cool thanks
Nice pro tips. Thanks
This video is great , I have been using premier pro for years. Recently editing has become sort of unpleasant and tedious for me. I was thinking of switching to Final Cut for awhile to see if that changes things up. I miss editing quick fun videos just for myself and maybe Final Cut will help bring that back. Premier pro has been feeling like to much work to me lately. Thanks for info this will help me get started đ.
