Would have loved it if you explained what the various structure components are and the purpose of them (Project, Event, Library, Key Words). After watching your video I still have no idea what they are and what was Apple's intent each of them. I do understand how you are using them. It would be very helpful to have an explanation at a higher level. Perhaps some explanation on each of the hierarchies and how they relate to each other.

It gets very tedious trying to navigate through all these different collections without knowing what's inside them, and then having to scroll all the way back up to close the collection when I see that it's not got the footage I was looking for.

You click, wait a second and click again. Then you should be able to rename it

I like these ideas - but becasue you already have footage on hard drive before importing to FCPX library, are you leaving it in place when you drag to library or copying? If the later would you not have two copies of the media?

In my situation I am simply trying to work on a project from a different device. I don’t necessarily want to work off of an external hard everyday as I move around a lot. Will this work if I copy this to a hard drive to use from another computer, w/o preventing me from using this on my main computer?
Trying to see if there’s any credentials that are directly attached to the library, the same way that some programs only let you have one copy of a program active.

If you have a Mac you can start with iMovie if you have a pc you can try something like Adobe premiere rush

My main question is: The edit window doesn't seem to 'keep' the last edited video...How do you recall the previously worked on video to
    make edits to it??

So, what does the export event do then if all your footage is in the footage event? Can you cross over the footage into the projects inside the exports event?

    • @benjohnsoncreative

It’s just a form of organization, I like to keep all the projects there to easily find them and swap between them

If I understood correctly, it keeps your footage files (raw material) separate from your finished product (projects), it makes things easier to find and to sort.

This was very helpful. I still don't understand the projects. I'm a week into FCP, and am confused. I want to make a video of photos and videos, for my son's High School Graduation. Do I use multiple projects for different portions of his life, like "Friend" "Family" "Sports" etc., or do I do one long timeline?
Thank you for the great video, it is helpful.

    • @benjohnsoncreative
      @benjohnsoncreative  Před 2 měsíci

The project is the final video that will be exported, so whatever you want that final video to be that you would actually watch is the project. If you want multiple end videos then you’d make multiple projects

I am having trouble figuring out Projects and Events. My main issue is when a clip of a past project (I guess) "sticks" to the beginning of an edited video, and I see that after my export. Its extremely frustrating, and I have spend countless hours trying to figure this out. Sometimes I get this and sometimes I don't. The label above my playback screen says the title from a past video and I don't know what to do.

Top notch content as usual Ben 🙌
For a typical YT video do you prefer to shot your A-roll in a single file, or stop recording every time you do a mistake, ending up with a lot of A-roll files?
    Cheers! 🤟

I do one A role file for sure, because sometimes the mistakes can be reused for bloopers etc

I am just wondering, while making the software, whether they should have used the word Project in place of Library and Timeline in place of Project.
