Easy Costume voice amp system V2: includes exciter speaker recommendation update (helmet/mask)

- This video is an update to a previous video I put out with a recommended amplifier. The difference is it’s the same amplifier, but with a specific speaker recommendation.
The speaker is actually a low profile exciter that adheres to any reasonably flat portion of your helmet to turn the entire helmet into the speaker. It results in very loud output. The thicker and softer the material you connect it to the louder and deeper it sounds.
Sharing a personal amplifier with the smallest inner circuit-board so I could remove it’s parts, and easily integrate them WITHIN a helmet or mask of a costume, to provide a microphone and amplifier capability.
My intent is to have OEM like functionality and look - fully embedding in a helmet with a realistic look (in lieu of carrying something on my belt).

All - the Dominox Band amp is exactly the same device as Moukey VA-1.
Since both ended up selling out globally - I went to the manufacturer that makes them both & bought some in bulk - as of today I have almost 20 remaining for sale on Etsy.
Sold out, any other links to completed units.
Tks
A
Embarking on my first Mandalorian costume project, and I very much appreciate your content!
Best of luck on your mods!
Moukey works great still doing instal
Went to a Renaissance festival during Time Traveler's weekend and went as Boba Fett, realized two things, a lot of kids and adults loved my costume and I really needed a voice box and this is helping bunches👍👍👍👍
Glad to hear!
The Star Wars costumes are always a hit - and especially if you actually sound like the character. It not only makes it easier to communicate but a lot more fun. Enjoy.
Could I just plug the i9 voice changer to the speaker without taking it apart right out of the box?
I can hide the speaker and the voice changer on my belt without compromising sound.
Do you think it could work?
I wish I looked into this sooner or I totally would've bought one! I saw in another comment that you've gutted a winbridge before. Do you think you'll ever do a video on that or more alternatives for voice amp systems?
I do have that in my backlog. I’ve actually made the video I think. But I’ve also made a bunch of videos that all need to be edited and released so it’s in the pipeline.
Cool. Thank you!
Hola, cual es el video anterior a este. Me podes pasar el link por favor?. Gacias.
I did basically the same thing for my Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) cosplay. I bought a similar speaker/mic combo off Amazon that came with a bluetooth headset. I opened the speaker case up, took out the electronics, and replaced the speaker with an exciter. The electronics and 18650 battery go in a pouch on my belt and the exciter is mounted behind the chest plate. I also wired in a 99uF bass blocker (capacitor) in order to block the lower frequencies and give it more of that signature Mando 'comm' sound.
do you have a build video of that?
sounds good. Did you use the same exciter or a different one? if a different one - how did work out /would you recommend it?
How was the footprint on your amp you bought?
@@Usmcsgtslaughter19 just saw your response. I don't have a video but it's almost the same process as this one.
@@creative-stuff yeah, same exciter. I did try a couple of the other Dayton ones but this model was the best between size and sound. I may try adding a second one though to try and boost the volume.
Hey Quico question. I’m doing the same cosplay, where did you put the speaker. I’m planning on putting a fan kit (it says it’s not the loud) in it so do you think I have to worry about the noise for the amp?
Link to Etsy no longer active, any other link where can purchase completed unit?
Tks
Anthony
can you replace amplifier with a speaker?
For the speaker what size pin connector did you use? Is it a 2.54mm 2 pin connector?
the 2.54 is a pinch larger than the input for the speaker, but if you pop off the board connector portion, it will fit the pins. I think the pins are like 2mm apart but I don't know exactly. How I differentiate the 2 types are - the 2.54 has 2 plastic lines that go in a wider groove to ensure the correct polarity, however this smaller one only has 1 plastic line going into a skinnier groove. Not the precise info desired, but hopefully that makes sense.
What is the yellow light colored material that you used around the cables of the speaker?
Hot glue - I hot glue any soldered wire connections that are at risk of breaking off if manipulated too much during testing or looking for best placement in a mask.
(Wires Soldered to speakers/circuit boards)
A lesson learned from previous amp system builds.
@@creative-stuff Thank you for clarifying, that’s super helpful!! This is now my favorite cosplay channel, please keep posting
is there a place where you show the stuff mounted inside a helmet? I kinda thought there was, but can't find it right now?
+@quemeese Sure, here are some links: Darth Vader Black Series install - czcams.com/users/shorts2RWP1sToiG0?si=MlMp-RRGFk1I_wcc
Mandalorian install- czcams.com/video/yPGlVtBoNYg/video.htmlsi=iAZm3OZY4_gwyPQn
+@quemeese there are also links in the description including for Guardians of the Galaxy - that’s a 4 episode version but here’s the FINAL video overviewing the results. czcams.com/video/6MoGxg-q2Os/video.htmlsi=LkNDmbZg2JX0xxVf
Hey one more question. What did you connect to the exciter speaker? Where did that wire with the plug come from and what did you use to seal it on there? Is that glue? Did you have to solder anything?
So in place of the original speaker I got wire with a connector to fit the speaker connection location - easiest is to just unsolder from the original speaker and solder to your exciter.
I always put hot glue on my solder points to minimize bending at the point of solder to mitigate break off.
@@creative-stuff Solder and hot glue. Got it. Thank you sir!
You’re quite welcome. Best of luck in your mods!
Good morning
I have a ZITFRI voice amplifier but it's too big to put it on my boba fett's chest. how could I do it? take it apart or something?
Taking it apart is what I do.
Depending on your model you may get a smaller board - not likely as small a the Moukey but one can hope it’s close.
If you’ve not seen my Mando build - check it out here czcams.com/video/56xvhMs2H0Q/video.htmlsi=uHZO2AamG7cUt3to
Although the great thing about the Fett helmet is that it’s got tons of room in there compared to Mando - so even a larger circuit board may still fit fine in the Fett helmet. You may need to swap for either a smaller speaker or an exciter
Is there any other voice amplifier I could use instead of those two, they never seem to be available
WinBridge has one that's tolerable, as it's the next best circuitboard size compared to the Moukey. The downer is it's board is more 2 to 3x the size of Moukey... but it's better than nothing (or a large board) --- It's a possible interim solution until Moukeys are available again --> amzn.to/3WtnLVf
This is such a small, great setup for in-helmet. I'm currently using a Boss VE-5 for my Kylo Ren, but always trying to see if I can create a smaller footprint within the helmet (I'm not using a black series) and this might be it, just need to figure out if I'm going to use a Velman MK171 instead of this board, but that circuit is kind of junk quality wise.
Check out this i9 portable voice changer I reviewed - it’s much smaller than most voice changers and actually has some viable options- czcams.com/video/BN7Dydsqry4/video.htmlsi=_3yc5kIwVshlEeg_
Bonjour. J'ai un amplificateur basique. Comme le tien mais pas de la meme marque. Comment pourrais-je le demonter et le mettre dans mon casque aussi ?
(Je suis un boba Fett)
Oui!

I didn't see a link for the speaker, have you got a link? Thanks, awesome vid.
Good point- I’ve now added it to the description - it’s a Dayton Audio DAEX25CT-4 Coin Type 25mm Exciter 10W 4 Ohm amzn.to/3uwdTxM Cheers.
@@creative-stuff thanks
All - given the absence of Moukey or Dominox Band amps from available stock - I always keep my eyes open for possible alternatives- If you have a unique requirement where a rounded board is advantageous- perhaps this can help you. I’ve not bought it so I don’t know how low profile the board inside is but if your interested give it a go - if you do I’d be interested to know how it works out. I don’t need any more right now, but I may buy it out of curiosity, just to open it up and see.
I don’t see a share option in the AliExpress app so I can’t post a link thus I’ll describe it:
App/site: AliExpress
Price: $11.67 +free shipping.
Vendor: Landzone Global Store
Brand: JSAUX
Specs: 5W, 1000mah, BT, USB, TF/Micro SD
Title: Mini Voice Amplifier Multifunctional Portable Personal Voice Speaker with Microphone Display Surround Sound for Teachers Speech
Where can I find that exact moukey voice amplifier? Haven’t been able to find it so I’m curious as to where you obtained it
Great question - they are hard to come by, unless you want to pay triple or quadruple the price to get it from UK or India.
I recently had to go direct to the manufacturer in China because Moukey hasn’t put an order in with the manufacturer in the last year to update their exhausted supplies throughout the world. Anyone who wants to order that exact V-307 model can bypass Moukey and do it through Alibaba BUT ONLY IF they order hundreds of units in order to do it. The manufacturer does not sell retail, they only sell in bulk.
However, the good news is I had grown impatient, so I recently put in an order with the manufacturer so I should have some available to sell off at some point. I’m not yet sure of the shipping ETA.
Oh awesome, Thanks for letting me know about that. I'll be sure to try and buy one once I get the chance.@@creative-stuff
Do you have any of the mouse y va-1 left or do you have a recommendation on a similar one? Thanks
Is it possible to install this into a motorcycle helmet?
+@Introvirtuouss - Definitely.
Check out how I installed it in these helmets:
Vader - czcams.com/users/shorts2RWP1sToiG0?si=ELIy7byE1YiP4zfx
Mandalorian - czcams.com/video/yPGlVtBoNYg/video.htmlsi=aKarmtT1IY19Y5Dl
Any good alternatives to the Moukey now? I can't find one anywhere.
I’ve gutted a WinBridge that’s maybe 2x as large - but smaller than others. Not ideal but ‘a way’.
I got tired of waiting for Moukeys to restock so I bought a load in bulk from the factory that I may well be selling soon, if that doesn’t work out for you.
@@creative-stuff Well. I live and work in Malaysia. That's probably not going to be practical on shipping costs haha.
Ahh, for sure, but on the plus side - you might be able to find a vendor in Asia with Moukeys on hand or the “Callvi v-307” - I believe that’s how they brand models for their Chinese speaking audience - so it may be more likely to be in stock. Shouldn’t matter language wise - I never needed the manual - and I don’t recall anything other than beep feedback from the device (no verbal feedback like on some other systems)
@@creative-stuff Trust me, searched for that moukey everywhere, even the dominox. Nothing on ebay, amazon, aliexpress, shopee, lazada (all locally based). Ill try the other one you suggested Callvi v-307.
Using google or bing I’ve only found results pointing to bulk sellers but I saw more options when I used Baidu, so maybe consider that search engine too.
Good point- I’ll add it to the description- Dayton Audio DAEX25CT-4 Coin Type 25mm Exciter 10W 4 Ohm amzn.to/3uwdTxM Cheers.
Won’t that hurt your own ears using the mask?
only if you max out your amp. The main benefit is that it penetrates the mask easier, so it should actually need less volume than a traditional speaker, and yield less impact on your ears.
For the speaker what size pin connector did you use? Is it a 2.54mm 2 pin connector?
