If I have to use Switchbot curtain R, directly with Alexa , than is it mandatory to buy Hub mini ? Or it can directly work with Alexa ? Also if I take cloud services , is it a paid service ?
Still very expensive though as you need to buy 2 and the hub, so £190 for all 3 on Amazon.

I think this could work perfectly for my situation / with my disabilty. The only downsides seem to be...
1) The price - as I could currently only just about afford 1 of them & I think I'd need 2 - (as my curtains open in the middle).
2) That that they would need charging (which would be a bit of a pain) & 3) that the rod version doesn't seem to be available on Amazon UK (they only have the u-rail one on there from what I can see).
I already own a switch bot hub/ & a switch bot button presser - which I love.
Due to my Disabilty/illnesses I am completely bed bound you see, I have no movement from below my neck down, & I live in a Care Home (in the UK). I'm typing this using a mouthstick stylus in my mouth.
As a result I'm always on the lookout for Smart Tech that could allow me to do tasks that I usually have to rely on others for by myself, to allow me independence (so products that can be controlled with either my Google Home or an app on my phone).
I've not really ever needed to consider getting a device for my curtains or blinds until recently, as I suffer from Severe light sensitivity (Photophobia - a side effect of my main illnesses) so I've always had them closed for the last 10+yrs and have to wear dark sunglasses everyday.
A recent change in my care plan (dictated by my GP) has changed that though, as she's now wanting to do gradual light re-introduction again (which has never worked before). This involves opening my blind/curtain a certain amount per day until I supposedly become accustomed to the light. Despite saying I'd try it (as she left me little choice despite me having capacity) , she's dictated to my nurses/carers to NOT close the curtains AT ALL during the day if I ask (even when the light becomes to much for me and causes me headaches, makes my eyes burn, and I beg them to close it). This particular directive has left me feeling completly helpless (as well as has upset the care staff who have to follow it), as I'm not physically able to close my own curtains/blinds myself obviously, which seems to me to be the only reason she's able to get away with telling staff they can't close them (as she knows I can't do anything about it). It might seem like a small issue, but it has been causing me awful headaches/ eye pain (as my room faces the sun so gets very bright with even a small bit of my blind/curtains open), & has caused me a lot of distress (as when the light becomes to much no matter how much I beg them to close it, the staff are not allowed to) and has resulted in me having to have my head under my duvet most of the day.
So I think a device like this (or if theres simular options that are cheaper that you'd reccomend, or options for my roller blind?) would be a great solution to solve this problem, as it would give me the control back to close my curtains by myself when I need, and wouldn't require any drilling, or changing of the curtain rod etc (that could give the care home a reason to refuse to install it).
This product has a solar attachment too so you could have it on a trickle charge. Price wise i know its not the cheapest. But probably the best option, i've not come across a smart blind with solar panel.
@@GeekStreet Thanks for the info. The only issue I'm having is that the Rod version of the switchbot curtains don't appear to be on Amazon UK. Only their U-rail ones, which is a shame. I have tried E-mailing them & tweeting, but as of yet I haven't had any reply. Which makes me a bit nervous to order directly from their website. I heard there based in China so my main worry was that if there was any issue with the item and it needed to be returned, unless they have a UK distribution center, returning it to China would be very expensive/ impossible for me to do. As for blinds I didn't think I'd find any that are solar powered. As long as they keep their charge for a long time I think that will have to do. Do you have any recommendations? I'm currently looking At these 2 options I found on Amazon UK .
