  • 7 tips I've learned over the past 2-3 years of project panning. When I first started panning, I started to feel really burnt out and like I was neglecting all the products in my collection that I wasn't panning, and it took some trial and error to start having fun and staying motivated with my projects. Here's my advice!

    i feel that most project panners overuse their products. because the rate that they use their products is unbelievable. i also use makeup almost everyday but i need way way more time than youtubers.

    I put 14 products in a project pan this year and I’ve already decluttered 6! Putting them in the project showed me quickly why I never use them... I don’t like them!
    So I was happy to pass them along to someone else!

      Panning can be so helpful for really getting to know your products! Sounds like you made the right decision to declutter those items! :)

  • @denissecardona37
    @denissecardona37 Před 5 lety +27

    Omg I'm not the inly one who thinks they kind of cheat when they dip the brush in the exact same spot and create a tunnel to the pan hahaha, also is not cool to see them just wasting the product to finish it, like swirling the brush into the eyeshadow and tapping off what it already had on and roughly swirling it back 4 or 5 times just to tap it off again...
    I just found you with this video and I really liked it! You just got a new subscriber

    I’ve been hacking products in a similar way when they don’t work for me as intended. I definitely enjoy the panning process. When an item doesn’t bring me joy to pan anymore, I repurpose or swap it out. Makeup and skin care should feel like pampering, not drudgery.

      Same! I do declutter occasionally because it helps me keep my collection curated, but I'd much rather be careful about what I buy to begin with. Being able to actually use things up makes me so much happier!

    I was going to just comment on how much I love the bright lip, but I’m just digging the entire vibe with the stripes and the glasses and everything!! Love the video and your look! My project pan focus was to work on becoming cruelty free!! It blows my mind how many large, well known companies still aren’t cruelty free. I also went on a no buy for 6 months last year and it has really deterred me from buying excessively ever since!

  • @KatariinasVanity

    I loved this video! I have been panning a year now and as you said, it is addictive :) I have lately had this weird feeling about my makeup collection. I love to do my makeup every single day, but the large collection I have does not make me happy anymore. If anything it makes me anxious and sad. I wish I could just declutter almost everything, but I just can't let go of my makeup like that and it would be super wasteful too. That's why I am panning and also why stopped buying new makeup.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety +2

      I think I understand what you mean! There is a weird feeling of guilt/sadness too even though I love makeup and always will. Panning definitely helps! But I agree, decluttering usually just feels wasteful to me unless I know I'm giving it to someone who is actually going to love it and use it up.

  • @jennawar13
    @jennawar13 Před 5 lety +8

    I think project panning helps to manage my collection. Like girl, don't buy another powder until you finish this one. I also tend to choose products I want to get out of my collection, not because I don't like them, but because they are old. I honestly can't pan products I don't like, when I do they get decluttered so fast. I just want to get use out of my products so I don't feel like I've wasted my money or over-spent on makeup. I do like to try products in different ways like lipsticks for blush or cheek products on the eyes etc.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety +3

      I feel the same way! It definitely affects the way I shop, especially when I already have a certain type of product in my project pan; I'm so much less inclined to buy another one in that category because I don't want it to hinder my progress and it feels like such a waste of money. Panning helps me get my money's worth while also making me less likely to over-spend, so it's a win-win for my wallet, haha. I'm always afraid to try lipsticks as blush because I'm afraid they'll break me out, but I really should try that more often!!

  • @MoonlitSunflower
    @MoonlitSunflower Před 5 lety +9

    While I enjoy watching panners over other types of beauty youtubers, I am just more convinced after watching this video not to project pan.
    I have a variety of shadows, blushes and highlighters that I want to enjoy. I don't use primer or foundation and I only use 1 mascara and brow product at a time. So, besides the things that I have a variety of... the project to me would be pointless because I would eventually use the products up anyway and replace them as needed. Lately I am warming up to a makeup basket idea though. Making a point to use a palette that I dont reach for often helps me rediscover the palette, "get to know the palette better", and usually develop or improve a technique or skill while I play around.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety +6

      That makes total sense! It sounds like you're really careful with what you bring into your collection and you are using up staple products at a good pace. That's probably the goal that a lot of us panners hope to get to eventually! One other commenter mentioned she does a "project 10 uses" which sounds like a really great way to focus on products you want to get more use out of but maybe not so much with the goal of finishing the product. That's something I might try in the future!! And yes, makeup baskets and roulettes where you use random.org to select a few products to focus on at a time can be really fun!

    • @MoonlitSunflower
      @MoonlitSunflower Před 5 lety

      I'll check out project 10 uses and see what that's about :)
      I can get kind of extra on the eyeshadow palettes, blush and highlighter so I'm trying to reign that in but otherwise, if I've got a product that I like and that does what I want it to do, I dont feel the need to have multiples.

    • @MoonlitSunflower
      @MoonlitSunflower Před 5 lety

      I was thinking the other day that I want to be familiar enough with a palette and like it enough that I have at least 3 go to looks with it. I feel like that is usually doable even with a 5 pan palettes.
      I think it is a good guideline for buying a new palette too. To visualize at least 3 looks with it to make sure you want enough of the shades and also to make sure you're not buying duplicate shades.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety +1

      That's so smart!! I always check palettes to see if they overlap with what I already have, but overall usability is an important factor to consider too. I'm going to start doing that when I consider a new palette!

    I've definitely gotten smarter about project panning.. I used to try to use up things like liquid liners and eyeshadows that are not everyday colours for me(not that I wear makeup daily).. now I include hair and skin care products more often as well as makeup products.. I always try to include one blush or bronzer since those are the hardest for me to use up..

    Love your tips. I don’t project pan eye palettes and lips either for the same reasons. I get joy from being able to use a variety those items. So what I do is similar to your new lip roulette. I have a log of all of my 37 eye and face palettes and I use a random number generator and select a palette a week. I’m a teacher so I wear make up 5 days a week if not 7. This helps me not get so bored. I have a million glosses and have recently made it a challenge for myself to finish up as many mini glosses as possible that ice accumulated in various kits and sets.

    I needed to hear what you said in this video. I've been feeling so discouraged with my project pan because i'm seeing little progress. Having someone tell me it's okay to feel bored of products and that it's okay to switch things out makes me feel better and that these things will happen when you're project panning. I also need to remind myself not to buy anymore makeup because of how long it takes to use up, and to appreciate what I do have and what I can learn throughout this whole process.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety +1

      Of course!! I think all of us panners go through that. There's no reason to force yourself to use a product that you're bored of!! Makeup should be fun :)

    I don’t like when things go to waste but I’m also big on expiration dates so I never have more than two liquid products of the same category (foundation, primer, etc, powders I’ll use for as long as I like them). I also like trying new products so panning and sticking to my two products lets me try out something new every few months without my collection becoming overwhelming

    • @SarahRoseBeauty

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
      @SarahRoseBeauty  Před 5 lety

      Hi Christina! I do wear contacts - and yes! I do sometimes have that problem and that's actually why I had to change into my glasses to film this video (I was wearing the Jordana 12 hour made to last nude eyeshadow pencil in my waterline and it smudged up one of my contacts, but not the other). My guess is that wearing liners in the waterline isn't the best for our eyes anyway, but I still like to wear it sometimes. It's weird though because it doesn't happen every time, even with the same liner! I like the Jordana black pencil liner and I don't think it has done this to me yet. But maybe some other commenters will have more suggestions!

    The comment you made about the eyeshadow panning bothers me SO MUCH. I follow a bunch of panners on Instagram, and sometimes you'll see a picture of an eyeshadow where the center has pan and the outside clearly has never been touched..... If powder face products don't work for me, I truly just use everything as eye shadow. Bronzer? Eyeshadow. Blush? Eye shadow. Highlighter too dark? Eyeshadow. lol

    I find that people who have panned make up where the palletes or glass bottles are COMPLETELY CLEAN AND SEE THROUGH is a bit suspicious. Make up that has been use for a while and actually took time to pan is going to look messy. The possibilty is that those people would "wipe" he pan clean, but I don't see the point in doing that. The messy rugged look of a panned make up shows off the amount of work put into the product.

    • @SarahRoseBeauty
