It looks good! I think you could paint the handrail black to make it pop!
Your stairs came out great. I had to laugh when you mentioned that you had to gather the motivation to paint your stairs.😂 I built my home in 1999-2000 and carpeted my stairs inside the house. I however wasn’t sure how I wanted to finish the steps from the garage to the basement. This morning I used these steps and got a bunch of “motivation “ so I was looking for some ideas and found your video. I have the paint so now I have to do some prep work (cleaning, sanding and taping) I am very patient so I’m think it will be very rewarding. Wish me luck. 🤞

It amazes me how many women decide to tackle this type of project...as a pro, I know it's difficult, laborious and certainly time consuming and I commend those who do! Awesome job girl and yes, black and white contrast is a beauty and I know how hard it is to keep a clean job with tight lines.

I do like it and I'm doing the exact paint scheme on my stairs and you're right about it's tediousness.
I had to do so much sanding before painting. I felt like giving up in mid job but you have inspired me to get back to work on it. You did a very nice job.
Well, I completed the staircase. Three coats of oil based black and three of polyurethane. It looks great.

Incase no one answered already , the part of the stair you dont stand on is called the riser , and the part you stand on is the tread . Great job

@@deedior1644 buy a mouse sander they are only about £15-£20 and they have a point that makes it easier to get into the corners

I love this! I am so inspired to do my own. Our floors are also the same color at the bottom of the stairs. The only thing is I have laminate on part of my stairs so need to see if I can paint over it!

This looks really good. I love the black and white! Is the black paint for the stair treads a special type of paint that is hardy for walking on? What made you choose gloss for the risers and satin for the treads, and what do you think of the effect? Thank you so much for this video.

Amazing I’m considering doing it, not sure if black will work for us, possibly dark grey but love it, always like to check a sane persons methods before painting projects and glad I did as I coan imagine leaving everything up stairs etc and marking every other step is a great ideal to stop you getting carried away haha

I’m getting ready to do the same. I painted my hand rails and spindles black today. Just a TIP, use baby wipes or Clorox wipes to get paint off; it works. Just do it ASAP

I love it, I painted my mahogany brown to match the color of my hard wood floors in the living room. I found it a safety hazard going downstairs at night because I couldn’t tell where each step was. So I ended up installing motion strip lights and it looks more beautiful now.

So I’m doing this same thing right now, just started, but I was going to strip and sand the risers before painting white, to avoid bumps and uneven surface, from your own experience do you think it makes a difference? Are you happy with how it looks and are there like “messy’ bits you can see through the paint? Yours looks fab btw but kinda hard to tell exactly through the video. Thanks
Hey, good luck I hope it goes well. There are little bits that I can see through the paint but honestly I don’t mind it. Doesn’t look too bad. Just depends on the finish you want

Hi. I'm thinking of trying this. How long has it been seen you've painted the stairs? How do the stairs look today? Has the paint chipped or flaked? Thanks
Hey, it has been over a year now, they look great to me. There are little chips here and there but nothing major maybe after year two I might think of touching them up a bit but so far so good!
If you use chaulk paint and a wax it will last longer I think. I redo furniture and I use chaulk paint for all my furniture it covers so well and the best part it can be a dark walnut stain you don’t have to sand unless it’s rough of course it will cover right over the stain. Make sure you always seal your though. They have different dealers I am a fan of the antique finish.
Did you you stair paint or patio paint? And why didn't you use a primer for the black?

@@laurasacchetti6291 I think it went pretty well. It's not perfect but a definite upgrade from what it was. I used laminate on the landing steps; and sanded and stained the original steps.

You didn’t have to use a finish to protect the treads from chipping? They look so good? This is what I’m trying to figure out if I use like a wax?

Looks really good I wish I could do it in my house but there's always people up and down the stairs I do like them colours and that black paint looked like it went on really well

If it says four hours why do two, then dust the steps which could likely spread dust onto the potentially not completly dried paint! 🤔🤷♀️ The final finish is beautiful. You did a great job!! Your patience paid off🥳😉. Like you said you can always revisit periodically if any finishing touches are needed. 🙏
