Hey guys! Thanks so much for watching! If you are looking for the Painting Shirt - here is a link: diy-by-niky-foster.creator-spring.com/listing/painting-shirt-june-2021?product=2
Also if you have a question, don't hesitate to ask! Xo, Niky Foster
Great job, Niky. I'd love to do a makeover for my stairs too but I'm not sure what to do to the hardwood flooring on the landing and the hallway cos they are the same colour as the stairs. I feel changing the colour of the stairs while the landing & hallway floor remain the oak colour might look tacky. Plus I like the floor and don't want to mess it up. Any suggestions please?
Thanks! I would change the landing as well to the same color. If my stairs werent carpeted, I would paint the risers white and the landings black. ❤️❤️
@@DIYbyNikyFoster Thank you for replying promptly.
@DIY by Niky Foster - Thanks so much for this video. My stairs look great!!!
You’re welcome!!!!
I love how realistic your channel is. You showed how long it took, you show all the process, you are explaining your process. Love it.
Thanks!! I’m so glad its helpful!!
Love how thorough you are! Just a thought: those sanding blocks are fairly expensive and wear out super fast. As an alternative, get sandpaper you can buy in bulk. Use a piece of wood as a block and cut to size and wrap it around.
I watched several videos on how to paint a stair bannister and this one was by far the best. Thank you!
Thanks so much! I try to explain as much as possible! ❤️❤️
I'm so glad you explained everything and was transparent about the time it takes. DIY projects definitely take time if you want it to look great. Your staircase is BEAUTIFUL! Love watching your channel. 🙂
Thanks so much! And you are welcome! I really think everyone who’s trying to do things need the info! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me pausing the video immediately to go purchase the painting tshirt! Love that you gave realistic timelines that is one thing that keeps me from trying to start a big diy. my mind immediately gets overwhelmed bc I think of the project on whole not in parts.
Awww thanks so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Breaking it down definitely helps get it done. 🤗🤗
Beautiful...you have really encouraged me to go for it. The honesty you showed about the timing really made me want to keep going and not get frustrated...one step at a time!! Thank you!!💜💜
I do definitely recommend doing those extra top coats when you get the chance. I recently built some doors for one of our rooms (two living rooms connected to each other). I only did two coats on the front of the doors, assuming I could get to them in a few months. Basic wear and tear has already left a noticeable "bald spot" on part of one door, and I now wish I had just done all of the top coats at once.
The railings look great and totally make the space feel newer!
Ooh thanks for the tips! I think I will. The top coat dries fairly quickly I noticed. I wanted to finish the video for you guys so that was another reason I only got to the 1 coat. Thanks so much!❤️❤️❤️
What an incredible project!!! This new look is so fresh and amazing!!! What I appreciate mkst about this DIY is how detailed you were with sharing practical tips & tricks that work (or didn't work) to get this amazing outcome!! Well I know what my next project will be. 🙂
The staircase looks beautiful!! Thank you for giving all your tips and tricks. That is so helpful. 💕
I’m redoing my 1931 staircase and following your video step by step. Thank you!
Beautiful job. Thanks for the detailed information. I started my staircase. I love the brushes you used and will be purchasing to complete it. It is a very tedious process but so worth it. You gave me more inspiration!!!
Omg your home is beautiful! it’s so weird but my townhome literally has the same layout as your home. This is giving me so much inspiration!
Wow, I was undecided on black and white for my living room. Now, after seeing your video, it's a must that I do so. I'm also adding canary yellow to my living room as well. I'm also going to D.I.Y a kitchen island for my dining room, in black and white as well. Once again thanks for thee informative D.I.Y ideas. I'm a big fan, of your creativity. Hopefully when I'm done, I'll be able to figure out how to upload my work.
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰The main thing is recording it. You’ll be able to upload! ❤️
Your stairs look incredible, and I am a huge fan of the way you detail what was done on each day in your videos! It gives me a perfect estimation for how to prepare and what to expect for when I do these DIYs. :)
What a beautiful and dramatic result! Well done!
Thank you!
Amazing 🤩 finish! Now, the hallway walls can use either white paint or a very cool light gray… to complete the look! I am even thinking the hardware on your bedroom doors could be black to complete the black and white modern theme. It totally elevates the space!
😍👏🏼Amazing job!
OMG, I cannot wait to paint the hallways! Definitely going for a white!!! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this detailed tutorial - I have a mission to get rid of all things orange oak in my house - the banisters are on my list and I just started this past weekend - the sanding is no joke. I did my kitchen cabinets last year so I knew what I was getting into with sanding and clean up/prep. I've watched your video several times and it has motivated me to get this project done!
We have the EXACT same staircase! This is what I want to do to mine too. Thank you for posting! It feels so doable all by myself
The results are fantastic. I was wondering about the carpet colour but it looks amazing!!!!! I did a staircase … a world of pain but done carefully, like you did, it’s well worth it and you will save $$$$$!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for making this video and sharing it❤
OMG so glad to have watched this video. This also one of the projects that I been wanting to tackle but because the trimming and windows is also honey oak I have held back. My house was built in 2004 and I think back then all that oak was what it was. I am so over the light work on trims and windows. I just want to make sure I don't have any regrets; however, you are inspiring to not be afraid and go for it. Lastly, major project will be my kitchen cabinets unless I just add black hardware for a pop and voila!😁Can't wait to go back and look over more of your videos.
This is by far the best tutorial I’ve seen on CZcams. Thank you so much!!!
It makes sense to breakdown the task by steps. It looks great. Love the black and white. Thank you for the encouragement 🙂.
The breakdown saves me from stressing! I really encourage it for all DIY projects! ❤️
I have a bannister but never had spokes for the bannister and I have never thought about painting the bannister black. I now have the spokes kit and am definately thinking of doing the bannister black as it looks really good. Thanks for the idea 😊
Thank-you so much for the step by step details. Now I can actually get my project started!
I wish i could like this video 100 times. Very thorough. Thank you!
Looks amazing and I’m looking forward for the next project!
Will use a stain brush* thank you for the tip!!
Beautiful outcome
Thank you so much for sharing the details. I am going to do this to my oak handrails in my home. I also appreciate you pointing out how much time to budget for the project. I am off to the hardware store!
I really like it Nicky. You're right, one task at a time.
Thanks so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the way this project turned out. You did a fabulous job!
Thank you! 🥰🥰

You are great and very meticulous! I loved this tutorial! Very beautiful Niky!!!
Love this! ❤️ little trick for painting the spindles, wear surgical gloves & then put an old sports sock over your hand & then use a brush to remove any excess 😉
Wow such a nice difference. You did an awesome job
Came out beautifully. Continued blessings.
Looks great!!
I’m on month 2 and not as dedicated as you were. I’m super happy I found you and so far far I’m so happy with the results.
Wow, GREAT tutorial! Loved your suggestions for brushes and other tips.
Painting my stairs black and white is also on my to-do-list 😆 Thank you for this detailed video! Definitely makes a complete difference in your space! Now back to deciding when I will take the plunge 😆
Haha! Go for it! Just break it down and take your time!
You did a great job! It L👀KS AHHHMAZING!!! I too have painted the spindles a light cream color, still need to stain the rails. Whenever I get to it I am also going to stencil the risers for a pop of interest. I was shocked at how dirty those railings really are when you give them that deep clean. Yours turned out Beautiful!❤️
Thank you! It’s crazy because you can’t really see it! ❤️❤️
Looks wonderful 🤩 I’m going to paint my stainless steel railing black too 😃
