- Hey rabbits!
I think we all agree that German is a beautiful language. But it differs from region to region. Have you ever wondered how Bavarian sounds like? Or Saxon or Alemannic? Well, let's figure it out together in this video of me trying to speak in 12 different German dialects! Enjoy!

I'm learning German, and listeining to her speak makes me know I have a looong way.
No. Everybody in Germany is able to understand standart German. And everybody is able to speak the way, you could understand. Television in Germany use standart German all over the country
And you don’t need to learn these, you can if you want but they’re not necessary, though it may help if you live in that specific region but even then...
Anyway german and bavarian are two of my three native languages and I don’t understand most of these... you’re fine with hochdeutsch and english, don’t worry (:
Brooo lol I’m trying my best not to get discouraged rn lol
Guess Strauss rubbed off on ya eh Arthur?
Other countries: understand even other languages that are somewhat similar
Germans: don't understand people from the own country
That‘s life
Same in the U.K.
In Italy too, what we call dialects here are real separate languages and not all mutually intelligible with Standard Italian
@@julianfejzo4829 so what if I start Italian class at school, is there a chance it won't help XD?
@@hetaluna9844 Standard Italian is known by everyone in Italy, however if you know only Italian like I do and people in Northern Italy start talking you in their language you wouldn't understand much.
Same for Sicily and Southern Italy, however Sardinian is the language other Italian understand the least if we exclude Non-Romance minorities.
Standard Italian is helpful in Central Italy however, especially Tuscany (Standard Italian is based in literary Tuscan), and also in northern Sardinia where they speak Corsican dialects instead, Corsican is closer to Tuscan and Italian than any other regional language of Italy.
i spent 3 weeks in Germany many years ago and what I was very impressed by was the willingness of Germans to drop the dialect and speak hoch deutsch to me once I explained i had three years German study only in Australia. it was so considerate
Germans, contrary to popular belief, are extremely polite. Especially towards foreigners.
@@sebastianortega1938 That was my experience both times I visited Germany.Llast time I broke my wrist and could not have been more kindly or competently treated.

That moment when you as a German have to read the subtitles to understand the dialects.
Thats comforting to know ive always been afraid that germans were good at understanding dialects.
@@grantlong6586 they are so massively different its almost like learning a new language. I am from Austria where we speak bavarian at home and high german with a slight accent at work. There are many valley's in Tyrol which are only 2h away by car, but I literally do not understand when they speak their dialects. And the closer you get to switzerland and the higher the mountains, the worse it gets.
Mind you - Austria is smaller than most US states. So in the mountains it's basically like if people from NYC would have severe problems understanding people from Philadelphia.

As good as you think this lady's English is - and indeed her English is outstanding - her impressions of the various German dialects is off the charts fantastic. I happen to also speak German (lived in her neck of the woods - Wolfsburg - as a kid, then 4 years in Austria), and have been exposed to so many German dialects. I literally cannot describe how impossible it is for her to replicate / shred all these dialects. After watching this video twice, I'm still completely incredulous - what an AMAZINGLY talented women. Hopefully someday she does a video impersonating a Styrian / Austrian dialect :-)

When you have nice people around, they will help you to get into the local dialect easily. Just step by step. And everyone in Germany, Austria and in the German part of Switzerland understands and is able to speak standard German. And English - more or less.
@@zhongxina9569 I thought that too, and then I came to Upper Bavaria ... 😅
Are german, austrians, etc... generally good at English?
As a German learner living in Germany, this is my greatest nightmare. I find a vast majority of Germans are perfectly happy to speak Hochdeutsch with me but I have come across a couple of Berliners who refuse to speak anything but Berliner with me then get upset when I don't have the first clue what they just said.
Yeah, they can be kind of stubborn but it is also hard to hide your own dialect.
I also spoke standard German up until quarantine because I spent more time with my family. (My dad is from Berlin) so yeah
Good bye my dear pure dialect free German :/
Once you start speaking with that dialect there is pretty much no going back.
As a German born and grew up near Hannover, where they speak Hochdeutsch, I am almost unable to understand a person near Koblenz where the speak a special regional dialect. I also have serious trouble to understand bavarian or swabian if they don't speak standard German. The same happens when I travel to austria or switzerland. Even though my English is something between B and C Level still with trouble in grammar and vocabulary, for me it's easier to understand some English dialects. But when it comes to cockney Englich for example, I'm out as well ^^
You have to come to bavaria, because in bavaria the people are very nice and they speak hochdeutsch if you dont understand it

That is so amazing to give us the taste of different facets of amazing German language which I am so passionate about.
As Dutchman I heard many understandable words, but I also learned German through hearing TV, as my dad loved "Krimis" and German TV was often his choice. On top of that, my parents were from Groningen, in the North-East of the country, and their dialect is quite similar to Ost Fries. Then I'm married to an American lady who spoilt my school English, which was closer to the queens English... ;-) In the Krimis, I also often heard Platt Deutsch words... All in all, German is just like a dialect for me, as is Gronings!

Können Sie vielleicht mal zur Seite gehen?
Würden Sie bitte zur Seite gehen?
Would you be so kind and step to the side (to let me go through)?

I just learned that German also has dialects, this is the kind of thing that my school don't teach us
yes, the american "picture" of germany only shows bavaria
My family used to judge us on how we learned Deutsch in American school. Your natural Deutsche is the closest to what I was taught and what my Oma and Opa spoke at home. We are from Posen and the lost land of Prussia so I'm sure we sound different. Thanks for posting!

Du hier? xDD Ach, herzlichen glückwunsch. Du bist im Abbospecial von Rezo! 😁

Hi
I like hearing german.
Haha thank you :D
me too! the language sounds awesome xD
Wir sind halt einfach die Besten!
I like the Bavarian and Hessian part.
+Richard Sale bavarian was so wrong. but she tried.
Now I understand why Americans refer to a British accent. It sounded like you went from German to German and then to German.
Love your channel and accent
i ko jo nix üba de ondren dialekte song, owa bayrisch woa des ned😂😂
Na ned so😂
hahah des stimmt
Naja du kannst auch kein Bayerisch
+Leopold Achter sogt der der hochdeitsch schreibt. aha. hahahaha
Hab ich gesagt, dass ich es kann? Nein. Aber ich weiß, dass es falsch ist. Zumindest kenn ich keinen bayerischen Dialekt der so geht.... Bist wahrscheinlich irgendso ein Möchtegern-Bayer... Außerdem schreibt man keinen Dialekt.
So as you can all see now, not ALL German dialects sound evil.
German never sounds evil...
Hypebeast Police Arrest him NOW!
But what about the German laugh though?
e1234 I can speak German you racist idiot
My comment was intended to be ironic and make fun of the stereotype--AKA trope--German authoritarian or the British evil genius. Technically, it wouldn't be racist to use a trope such as I did. This was tongue in cheek. And one's nationality is not a race. I was playing off Seekarr's comment.
I just arrived on canal.video very cool, some dialects reminded me of Pomerano (German language spoken in Brazil). I really enjoyed it, sir gaud!
Amazing job!
Ich hab verstanden : "Gänsefleisch mal zu Seite gehen? "😂
Das wurd auch gesagt

Trixie, stop with the countless disclaimers and apologizing, you are way too shy, be more assertive :).
Thumbs up... ( Damma aufe)
***** This has NOTHING to do with German guilt or politics. How DARE you invoke the nazi past!
She has an English attitude.
She clearly apologize for not perfectly talk all dialects. Has nothing to do with their past, but has all to do with her being polite. It is as simple as that.
My native language is Portuguese, and I do speak / write English although not perfect. So, for this, I apologize.
Cheers.
Awesome video!
Ich fand es herrlich, alle Mal auf einen Schlag zu hören, vielen Dank dafür.
I Just started learning German language bt I am frightened now
:)
I'm german and i'm also frightened 😂and i understand just the half (without the "translation")
U people cant make me run . There must be one standard German language
Jeah there one „standard German"
Jup

With all due respect ma'am. I turned the volume down as far as I could but that was as close to perfect as I have ever seen on youtube. Then I turned it up and watched again. Yep ... very near perfect !
