There was a patriots writer whose name is Mike Giardi who said all offseason that team was bad during training camp and was gonna be bad and got roasted for it
He wasn’t the only one. The guys on First Things First thought the Pats had a talent depleted roster and were gonna be bad this year. But idk if anyone thought they would be this bad. Similar to Sean Payton, it looks like the Pats players are quitting on Bill because they don’t like his old school coaching style.
Belichick is both the Head Coach and the General Manager, so who else can be blamed???

@@vitorpeck4458there’s a salary cap that Bill is also in charge of managing. That way no team can truly go out and just sign anyone at any price without some type of consequence. The Rams are paying the consequence these last few years. They won that one Super Bowl and overpaid a ton of players, most of whom are no longer on the team at all. BB has never done that to the extent the Rams did (or with the level of talent the Rams had had) but he still wound up having a team this bad anyway.
I like what Joy said because it’s true while Bill didn’t have a GM for so long it was known that he and Brady went back on forth on a lot. Especially game planning. I recall from one of the documentaries that they would be doing that for a cool minute all the time.

Brady threw for 350+ yards, 3tds, a 4th Q comeback and the GW Drive in the 2003 Superbowl vs a top 10 defense in Carolina while his defense pooped the bed giving up 30 points to Delhomme.
He LED the NFL in TD Passes in 2002 without a single pro bowl or all pro pass catcher. NO QB IN NFL HISTORY has ever done that post- NFL-AFL Merger.

I hear exactly what you're saying. Bill is a different dude given his background. He was raised differently than the culture around the current time's. I never saw him as a narcissist, more of a hardliner and business comes first and don't rest on your laurels approach. Obviously he's not of the fame type so it comes off differently with him. As of the last few year's he's struggled though.

I think Joy Taylor said it the best here. He is the gm and a coach. In the past, it worked. But now the game has changed, and you don't have those key inputs anymore. The system that worked for 20 years is broken. The only one to blame is BB himself at this point. Not that he's a horrible coach or whatever people want to say about him. But he's trying to do too much by himself at this point. Props to Joy cause honestly on this panel it's like she's the only one who has a reasonable take on this.

Same thing happened to Tom Landry. Was great for a long time, Staubach retires then went through purgatory in the 80s until Jerry bought the Cowboys and put Landry out of his misery.
It took Brady maximum 3 years to become a Top 3 QB. In 2002 he led the league in TDs and in 2003 he was runner-up for the MVP. Then from 2006 onward, with the exception of a season or two, he's been playing at an MVP level pretty much every year. On top of that, Brady mostly credited the mindset and work ethic he got from college and Charlie Weiss (his OC at the time) for his development. I say this because people give Belichick too much credit when it comes to Brady's development; Belichick is not great offensively

Belichick has never been as good as so many has said. Before Brady he was average, after Brady he's average at best. You can argue about this if you want just look up his record. When he was with the Giants as their DC he had LT and they won a lot.
He won Super Bowl as a Defensive Coordinator, plus when he was head coach with the Browns he won them their first playoff win in 1996 then he won the first 3 super bowls when Tom Brady was a game manager

Tom Brady NEVER won without a controversial/multiple controversial calls getting ruled in his favor. The Superbowl he won with the Bucs had some of the most biased/sketchy officiating I've ever seen. Same thing with the NFC championship game against the Packers. Guess who benefited from all of the sketchy/biased officiating? Yep, Tom Brady and the Bucs.
Since i became a football fan (NYG) the Patriots were always the top dogs, best of the best, like Joy said "for 20 YRS" Even when other teams won it, they were still in the mix. The game HAS changed, but Bills style hasn't. Doesn't work anymore.

The 99/00 Tampa Bay Bucs held the GREATEST SHOW ON TURF to 11 points but only scored 6 points so nobody talks about them. If they had Brady, they would've won but paradoxically people like you would be bringing up their defense even though they are never mentioned since they ultimately didnt win.

Yes the defence biffed it with the Eagles and Brady solo squadded it against the Falcons. But the vaunted Patriots offence was manhandled both times against the Giants too. And then AFTER Brady New England looks JUST LIKE the trash Belichick Browns of the 90s: TERRIBLE Offense, overrated defense, bad coaching, nepotism run amok, ambiguity as to who is the playcaller/coordinator, general power politics.
Coincidence? 79 - 91 without Brady. 0 (ZERO) Division titles in ELEVEN YEARS without Brady.

LOL. He did not give Brady a shot after Bledsoe went down, - Bledsoe could not play, so Brady had to. If Brady didn't do anything, he would have been sat right back down later. As soon as Brady took the field, he was able to EASILY move the ball down the field with the same exact team that Bledsoe had! That alone showed you that it was the QB!

@@togelz It was a no-brainer to let Brady keep the job - Bledsoe had an arm and was not bad, but the guy could not move the ball up the field. When Bill saw how EASILY Brady move it up the field and they had a losing record, it was clear who needed to keep the job.
That game is on YT, so just go watch and see the differences. So Bill choosing the obvious does not make him a guru, or else they would have picked Brady sooner instead of just picking him because they had a pick!
There was a pass that Mahomes completed this weekend, that only he could have possibly completed; falling down, almost on his back 30+ yards down the field....catch! They win. Without those kinds of plays here and there, you have a great team, that becomes very average. That was Brady for all those years, in his own non-athletic way, as we know Brady is not Mahomes etc...but he more than made up for that with his other skills. Mac has almost nothing, or developed very little so far. It's actually quite incredible we're here.

My only push back to the panel is... Don't forget he lost all his player personnel. He lost his player development team. When you're getting depleted making your staff, some people isn't easy to replace. So his coaching staff was important
Kraft needs to hire a real GM and not let Bellicheck pick any offensive skill players again ever. O lineman and defensive players yea he can pick them but WRs RBs TEs NO! But yea right now is ALL on Belicheck because he is the HC and the GM. No one else to blame. Buck stops with him. Kraft needs to fire Belicheck as the GM and hire a real one. You just proved that it's all about the talent of the players. The reason why people would be excited if he went to a better team is because he can coach great players, but he can't make average players good. In other words, Bill was never a great coach, he just had great players who rallied behind Brady and other vets in spite of Bill's stubborn and assholish ways. Multiple players have said they wanted to join the Pats to play with Brady. ZERO players have said they wanted to go play for Bill. Most of them hate Bill.
I think the general consensus is retirement. Bill getting another chance would mean more losing cause no team with a winning culture is firing their head coach

How did all of the OC do when they didn't have TB12. Tom was the coach,GM, and OC. Players on offense and defense took less to play with TB12. He would put fear in the offensive players that didn't perform. For 20 years, Bill didn't have to work hard.

Each year is different and each team is different. The patriots passed on D-Hop. Their FA signings this year made no sense to me. I think if we are going to lay the blame at Belichick for anything it’s the GM moves.
