The 38 Horsepower Kei Car You Need To Drive! - 1992 Honda Acty Street Van POV (Binaural Audio)

  • The Honda Acty Street Van is the perfect Kei car for your daily duties around town. Not only is it practical, but it is a joy to drive due to its silky smooth gearbox and strong brakes. 38 horsepower may not sound like a lot, and it isn't. This NA 3 cylinder engine is the least powerful Kei I have driven but it still packs plenty of character. Thanks to Ransom Garage for letting me have a go.

I live in Japan and my car is a Nissan Otti. It's a simple kei car, and as you said, in the mountains of Japan (which I like to go to) it's certainly an experience.
I remember when we went 3 weeks ago with my wife at a lake in the mountain, we decided to try to go with the "old" roads, not the one every body takes. It was a scary as hell drive! Thankfully we crossed only 2 or 3 cars that went downhill, but me, in my kei car, I was mainly climbing in second gear. Yeah!
On left corner has a huge slop increase and I had to climb in first to not stall Hahaha!
And during the climb, I stalled 2 or 3 times.
It was very misty and I couldn't see 20m in front. The sides of the road (over the cliff in the distance) were looking white, like we were driving in a dream or something.
My wife was quite scared actually, but I liked the drive up to the top.
    Great experience.

I am all about these videos man! I've got an AZ-1 and a Suzuki Super Carry, and it's awesome to see someone who gets the appeal of these little nuggets. I think everyone generally likes the AZ-1 for one reason or another, but most people really don't see these kei vans as enthusiast cars. I think having a car that punishes you when you don't plan ahead and conserve momentum is a great thing. The Carry's got a ridiculously short wheelbase and front weight bias too, so if you're too aggressive with the throttle, the wheels break free, and you've got a slide to catch (in a hurry, with the bus-like steering wheel). It was cheap to buy, but you'd have to offer me a lot of money to give it up. Love this type of stuff!

These little vans are awesome. I travelled to South America and in Chile i bought a L100 Mitsubishi (2 cylinder 550cc). I built a sofa/bed in the back, bought some tools, cooking equipment and hit the road. Chile, Atacama desert, Argentina, up and over the Los Andes 3 times, Bolivia, Salar de Uyuni, the 'worst most dangerous road', parts of the Amazon through into Brazil. More than 20,000 miles travelled... and i met a beautiful lady in Brazil, married her, and i STILL have the 40 year old L100 as my daily work horse. With sliding doors on each side and the best turning circle ever, its crazy practical. It also carries half a metric ton - 10 sacks of cement. Great little vans.

@@TedwardDrives Cheers!! I believe its the only L100 model and quite possibly the oldest Mitsubishi in Brazil. The trouble is finding parts... there aren't any, i have to adapt everything. Brazil doesnt have 10 inch tires, so i had to raise the suspension and use R12 or R13, but as its turns out i scored some meaty R10 forklift tires that fit on the original rims. So with a 3 inch lift its looking more like a 4x4 japanese minitruck these days! Loving it... Attracts even more attention!
